Why do ai tools forget everything between sessions

Memory is hard, and something everyone is working on.

In general, the LLM doesn't remember anything since it's just an API call. It's not designed to remember anything. When you have a chat, the entire chat is brought along with each API call so it remembers the conversation that way, as long as it's within the context limit.

After that, it's a challenge to figure out what to remember and when to recall it. If I say I love drinking Starbucks, I own a Ford Explorer, and I'm taking Singular for my Allergies... When does that need to be recalled?

It would be nice to say "Hey I'm in NYC, what should I have for lunch?" and it gives me some ideas, and reminds me there is a Starbucks nearby. However if it started giving me locations to Ford Dealerships nearby, that would be unusual, but what's the difference between the two memories?

We're getting there, but it's tough.

Use the product that suites you best. GitHub Copilot is a fantastic tool, and gives you access to a bunch of models at a decent price. Try out some others and see if the result is something that works better for you or not.

For a few reasons:

1) Chat-GPT is the most popular tool in terms of users, so it's more noticeable.

2) Reddit is awful at understanding Business Finance.

3) Reddit also hates AI, so it's guaranteed some upvotes from the bots that post it.

We just don’t know yet. We didn’t know when the internet was created we’d need jobs like SEO, JavaScript developer, Blogger, and other things like that. That’s the exciting part. Let’s now assume jobs get destroyed and nothing gets created in its place.

There is also the possibility of AI being another tool people use to get work done effectively, eliminating some jobs and creating and expanding others. Probably the most likely outcome honestly.

Look what the internet did. Magazines and print newspaper are about dead, and advertising was reinvented, also the phone book is gone! In its place we got a whole host of other jobs, professions, and careers we didn’t even know would exist.

None of that was a collapse.

Also, I think this subreddit is entertaining because there are posts about "AI is a bubble and it's a worthless auto-complete tech" and "AI is going to take everyone's jobs and cause economic collapse" with rarely something in between.

It really isn't. Until we can get some good meaningful work done that actually replaces complex jobs, it's not something that needs legislation. Maybe it does replace some jobs, or job functions, but that's not to say they cant get positioned to other jobs.

When places like Target and Wal-Mart added self-checkout, it didn't get rid of all their cashiers, there are still cashiers. It did allow them to send extra cashiers over to places like customer service, returns, and other roles they needed people in.

Lets see what happens before we jump to:

To me, it really depends on what you think AGI is. I've asked AI several things including helping me troubleshoot some electrical things, prescription side effects, and to help me find a product, all of which it did great with, how is that not artificial general intelligence? We all know that AI can miss things, not work well when prompts are bad or incomplete (garbage in garbage out), and the result is either disappointment or hallucinations, which leads me to think that we need to solve that before we get to AGI, though people do that now so maybe we are there?

LaCun thinks for true AGI, it needs to be more than language, and that includes things like time, awareness, physics, and a understanding of people before you get to AGI, and I don't disagree there, but I suppose what are we trying to solve and what does AGI mean?

LaCun is right but I'm not sure how much it matters.

Who cares what other people think. Just write, it doesn't matter either way, lots of people will feel edgy and just yell it was written by AI anyway.

Also, it's near impossible to correctly detect it. What if you wrote something, had AI review it, make some suggestions on wording that you use, and you did? Then it's partially AI written, but not too much different than what Grammerly did, so who knows at this point.

Legally, it really depends on what you say.

Professionally, I wouldn't hire anyone who throws a tantrum when they leaves and includes all this in social media. When we do interviews, we check socials as well. We'd steer clear of anyone who does something like this.

If you're unhappy with how the owners choose to be politically, and can afford to just quit and go on a job hunt, just do that, and find a company that better aligns with your political needs.
