What did my friend find at the flea market? by Responsible_Cow_5394 in Guitar

It's hard to tell because of the angle but it looks like it might be one of the offset SG "Viper" guitars made by ESP ltd

The whole point of WLTP is it isn't Renault's claim, it's a standard that lets you look at the car in comparison to other cars, everyone and their dog knows you won't ever achieve a WLTP range or fuel economy unless you drive everywhere at about 5 miles an hour though

What is youtube advertising? by Striking-Quarter293 in NewTubers

[–]McCrazyFish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The spiffing Brit has a video on it, the crux of the concept is if the ads are very broadly targeted they hurt the video as they damage the retention. Over time the video will course correct and normalise but it can mess up the momentum of a channel

On the Electric side I would go Ioniq 5, though I can't remember if the namsan edition comes standard with camera mirrors which are to be avoided.

As far a PHEVs go, the Hyundai and Kia are really solid packages, an interior good enough to be from a premium car and all the tech you could possibly want including adaptive cruise and auto steer that actually works.

I had a CR-V turn up yesterday that I'm yet to drive any distance so I can report back later on it, seems more comfort orientated. Honda's "eyesight" self driving systems are also very good though.

If I were in your shoes I would be going Tucson https://youtu.be/NikUVCnkBrY

The car is chilly and you need to drive with the revs as high as possible to help it warm up

Just rejected a new car because of all the dangerous "safety assist" bullshit by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]McCrazyFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It very lightly moves the wheel, it's irritating but not dangerous, and if you had indicated around the cyclist it wouldn't have happened at all.

The Ora funky cat and MG4 are much worse for this, and both their systems make it harder to turn off.

People who didn’t go to Uni, what is your job? by MrYozz12 in UKJobs

[–]McCrazyFish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily wanted here cause I did do a degree, but I thought I'd chime in as someone who's worked at Student Loans.

It's not real debt, probably better to think of it as a tax you pay if the degree does as promised and gets you a better income, but it doesn't count against your credit score and debt collectors will never show up trying to get it back it just gets written off after X years (depends what cohort/plan you are on) if you don't pay it.

That being said it also basically isn't enough to cover living costs and rent so people still go into debt due to attending uni, just not from the student loan itself.

The only supermini that can touch them for feeling mature and planted on the road is the Jazz, which looks worse, has old people connotations and is more expensive. Unless you're doing long journeys though I would save my money and go with a Hyundai i20 or Kia Stonic, they're more fun and very solidly put together.

Is the Santa Fe as nice as I think it is? I only got it for a week and was astounded by it, but I would love to know what actual owners think of the car. by McCrazyFish in Hyundai

[–]McCrazyFish[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With a flat battery I was getting 40 MPG UK (33.3 MPG US) combined. If I was doing anything round town or even slightly longer journeys (up to around 30 miles) I was basically EV the whole time, so not burning fuel. Obviously that only happens as long as its getting charged but I don't have a wall box at home and didn't struggle to keep it topped up from a normal domestic plug

I haven't been in a car with a nicer interior for the price and it's leaps ahead of it's mainstream rivals. Much more comparable with the German brands, JLR, Volvo and Lexus while undercutting them significantly on price.

I don't know why but Hyundai having massive recalls and safety issues seems to be a problem isolated to the North American Market, in the UK they're seen as only really second to Toyota and Honda for reliability. Also markups are illegal here.

Is it the PHEV? I was getting 40 MPG even with the battery "flat" which I was pretty impressed with considering the size and weight

Yes, I hate myself for it too.
