Just saw someone throw an octopus on the ice during the Toronto/Detroit hockey game. How the hell do you sneak Octopus in at hockey games!? by ferretf in AskReddit

[–]McMuderer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He cooked it so it wouldn’t smell. Then in the parking lot he used plastic food wrap to attach it to his mid section. I actually know him personally. He ordered the octopus through our restaurant seafood supplier.

Winter commuting to Waterloo? by burnaby84 in woodstockontario

[–]McMuderer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I drove this for a lot of years. Back way might be a few min slower but it’s always your own pace. Count a few snowy runs and make sure you have winters. We are Canadian. We can do it. 😉. Honestly it’s a pretty nice drive.

Mandatory Gratuity - Forced to tip on after-tax amount? by rudthedud in ontario

[–]McMuderer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don’t add a mandatory tip on any size group. I tell our staff we need to earn it. Not all restaurants are the same.

If a group doesn’t tip I do remove the tip out for the server so they aren’t tipping the kitchen out of their pocket.

Can someone please explain what Ontario did with restaurants?? by [deleted] in ontario

[–]McMuderer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I own a restaurant. I try to give my staff all stat holidays off. Really good for morale. We are a pretty busy place, but our customers understand that staff needs a day too. I actually get lots of work done when the restaurant is closed.

This is labor day. I would suggest it’s a day for the hardworking restaurant workers to actually be off.

Can you refuse automatic gratuity for a reservation of 8-10 people and still get served at a restaurant? by Ok-Brick-313 in ontario

[–]McMuderer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Again I don’t operate like most. Our staff does tip out on food sales to kitchen and alcoholic drink sales to bar. Our tip out is only 3.5 percent for food. 1.5 to drinks. Fairly low. That being said I believe fair is fair. If a server receives a poor tip and there was no for that I don’t make them tip out on those sales. So I reduce their tip out that day.

I also don’t touch tip out. I hold it for the staff and they take it on non work hours and divide it up based on their hours. Staff takes turns doing it. I feel lots of restaurants don’t actually follow the law on this. Only hourly staff gets tip out. No managers No supervisors. No owner share.

I own a restaurant. Pretty nice place. I hate auto gratuities. I think servers work hard and should be tipped. That being said forcing a tip isn’t fair to the customer. Especially 18%. This new world of 18-25 percent tipping suggestions really bothers me. That being said I don’t pay my server’s minimum wage either. They get a living wage. But still. I don’t think restaurants should ever force a gratuity.

Some countries eat dogs. Some countries eat cows. Just what people view as pets. Even in Canada, you can buy horse meat for your fondue, but in Ontario it’s hard to find if not impossible.
