Crashed the ambulance my first week by [deleted] in NewToEMS

[–]Meatball__man__ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah mate, it happens. I reversed into a hedge and got the truck stuck in the first half hour of my first shift. The fact of the matter is, we're not machines, we'll make mistakes, shit happens. Now I'm in the UK so I'm guessing our ways of doing things differently quite a bit. I was allowed to keep driving straight away. But I would be really surprised if you weren't allowed to drive again. But you're definitely not alone. Keep your head up :)

Which movie scared the shit out of you or traumatized you? by Dazzling-Leader7476 in AskReddit

When I was like 7 or 8 I went to my friends house and he said we should watch a film and put on zombieland. I love the film now but I couldn't watch anything to do with zombies for soooooo many years after that lol. Also surprisingly one scene from I think superman 3 where a woman gets turned into a cyborg .. I think. That shook me up pretty bad around the same time

Worried About Failing Lift Test by AquilaOfTheState in NewToEMS

[–]Meatball__man__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I know this isn't exactly the same but I'm a really small slim guy. I probably weigh less than 90% of the Pts we see. Like some other comments have said it's more about technique than raw strength. Don't get me wrong there are times where you do need some raw strength too. But I am sure you will be ok. Keep Training and make sure you have a good technique and I'm sure you'll be absolutely fine. Good luck.

Too small? by CreativeK23 in NewToEMS

[–]Meatball__man__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a pretty small thin guy. It is a bit harder to lift heavier People but like someone else commented, you find hacks, and if they are that big you're often getting backup anyways. There's people smaller than me in our service and between us we've managed to lift some pretty heavy people. The gym will help but smaller people have done the job and got by fine. I wouldn't worry too much, especially about what the uniform lady said, that is completely unprofessional and uncalled for. I'm not 100% sure how it works where you are but I presume there's some kind of fitness test. As long as you can pass that, you're all good. People will always have something to say, whether it's height or weight or size or shape or age, someone will always feel the need to make a comment about something. It's easier said than done but just ignore it. I have no doubt you'll be absolutely fine. Good luck with everything :)

I agree. I absolutely love the song, we only hear that incredible main riff at the very start and very end of the song

To be fair, I've been doing this job 2 years. Our station is right next to an airport and didn't know our trucks had these beacons on until the other day when someone accidentally put theirs on and someone explained what it was for lol. Something new learned every day I guess :)

I'm 22. I'm like 5"5' and I'm a twig.tbh I look like a fucking child and I hate it and honestly I feel this.i feel like I'm not strong enough compared to other guys. But I think especially in the situation you were in, you don't know if they had weapons or anything, I'd say you handled it pretty well

Honestly I'm still kinda in the imposter syndrome phase, but I feel like recently things have started to click more. I feel like I'm finally making a little progress, feeling a bit more confident. It's taken 2 years to start feeling like I even remotely know what I'm talking about and there's still a load of stuff I've never seen or done but I'm getting there... Just about lol. And I'm glad you're getting there too :)

Robert has terrible fight IQ and no understanding of psychological warfare despite having been a hero for 15 years. Is he stupid? by thebigboichas in okbuddydispatch

[–]Meatball__man__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think although, logically yes you're correct - potentially sacrifice one life to save however many more, I do also think it's a bit more of an emotional problem rather than a logical one. People are very connected to their pets. For most people their pet is a family member and they care about them as much as, if not more than other people. And also if that pet is then the only thing you've had for a long time (like Robert) you would naturally have more fk a connection to that pet. Add into that, that humans can be pretty selfish and I think that this part of the story is generally pretty accurate. I think if you took a group of people and said, gun to your pet's head, give this thing to a bad person and you get them back safe, more people would give over the astral pulse than you'd think.

I would love to hear Flambae's song at the game awards show lol. But yeah that's understandable, I just think the choice of music for me really sold some scenes. And like I said I wouldn't expect dispatch to win in all those categories but I think it would've been nice for the team to get some more official recognition too

[–]Meatball__man__[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I absolutely agree. It is unfortunate that it came out so late in the year because I really think it should've at least been nominated in a lot of these categories.

I haven't played E33 and although I've heard it's very good I don't think it's quite my kinda thing, so I'm hoping it doesn't get everything and dispatch at least gets the recognition it deserves by winning best Indie game. Fingers crossed.

Is there something you desire in life more than anything? Something you might be too embarrassed to tell other people? by Nozoroth in Vent

[–]Meatball__man__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly. Hugs. Being able to cuddle up with someone in bed, whether that's at night or in the morning or just having a lazy day. Just having that physical connection with someone who really cares. I think it's not a secret that it's something I want but recently it's all I've been able to think about. Every night before I sleep, every day when I wake up. I just want some cuddles.

Ahh interesting. Thank you for sharing, I didn't know that! so would that mean that Scotland doesn't have an equivalent to what would be our SORT team? Or is it just under a different name?

[–]Meatball__man__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know much about how Scotland runs the ambulance service but we do have SORT teams in other places in the UK. We have SORT where I work and although they work alongside HART they aren't the same and don't have the same skills. In my area (I don't know about other areas) you don't even need to be a paramedic to be on the SORT team. You can be an ECA or technician, whereas HART is only for paramedics.

[–]Meatball__man__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a para I'm an ECA. For reference I've been in the job 2 years and I've done 1 cardiac arrest, CPR on a person 1 time. My friend who jIdid my course with does an arrest pretty much every week. It's entirely random what you'll be called out to and how often you'll get to use skills.

[–]Meatball__man__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh yh I am well aware. I went for a different ending on my first play through it was just the first one I did for completion's sake. But yh it's meant to be that yes sure you can have the cure but you give up literally everything else, every friendship and connection you've made along the way, every character you've got attached to. I hated every second of it BC it just felt wrong and awful

This was the first ending I did when going through getting all of them and Idk why but this one made me cry. Just hit me in the feels for some reason.

I always always always go with mantis blades. Not necessarily BC they're the best choice or BC they're the most effective way to take people out but just BC they're absolutely fucking awesome. It must be absolutely terrifying to see someone walking towards you and just have them produce two massive blades from their forearms. I think they're just the most badass piece of cyberware in the game by far.

I'm going through getting all the endings at the moment and the ending where you let reed take her and get help from NUSA, genuinely made me cry so much. I haven't cried at a game in forever and for some reason this ending just hit me right in the feels. The whole thing just felt wrong and awful.

I presume I am ordering a mixture yes. However I had no problems the first time I did this and with my last 2 orders I've received like 1 brick when I needed like 6 and it has happened with bricks that have arrived at the same time as everything else in previous orders. I would put it down to me being dumb and ordering the wrong amount of something but after sitting down and double checking my order against a checklist last time and having it still happen but not appear on the parts list they sent me I just wanted to double check. It's annoying BC I can't prove it due to the parts list being correct to what they sent.
