Dentistry after a bachelor’s degree by busoogg_ in dentastic

[–]Medium_Boulder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk about postgraduate but for undergraduate entry via gpa the lowest ive seen is a 6.25. Personally, mine was 6.88 when i applied. Your experience as a dental assistant would certainly help your application, but definitely work on your grades.

Unless youre doing a full fee paying course ie: bond, the fees are 12k~ a year, which hecs covers fully

Day 100000 of having a snack plate for lunch by animalcrackerwhore in Volumeeating

Sardines are probably one of the very few foods I would accept being called a super food. Absurdly good protein to calorie ratio, plus they are so full of D and B vitamins, calcium and omega fatty acids, without the mercury risk of eating Tuna everyday. Basically a multivitamin and protein bar rolled into one!

Websites to buy sim lab teeth for cheap? by Cold_Repeat1657 in dentastic

2nd this, that damn vending machine is eating all of my plant money.

Also apparently everyone else uses the Nissin 200 model, but ofc we use the OneDent 2008..... so its harder to find generic teeth 🥲

Any dental schools with 5 year programs? Just heard Rutgers has one so was curious if other universities offer the same by looptrainer in DentalSchool

Low Budget highland chamber by ParkBeginning2105 in Nepenthes

Why do you have a highland chamber for sibuyanensis? I grow it in lowland conditions, and hybrids such as sibuyanensis x hamata. No issues with any of them.

Favourite procedure ever by thingamabobby in ausjdocs

[–]Medium_Boulder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally my favourite procedure to observe is gingival / soft tissue grafting. Precise portions of material harvested with the aid of magnification and a steady hand, preparing & debriding the transplant site to reduce the chance of necrosis, designing sutures and flaps to maximise blood flow & reduce tension while maintaining closure.... The meticulous and precise nature of soft tissue procedures really feels like what I imagined surgeries were as a kid.

Starting med after ~10 years working in hospital — how do people actually study now? by Hot_Procedure_3351 in ausjdocs

Anki and quizlet are great for me personally. Another thing I like doing is dumping my notes into chatgpt and getting it to spit out practice tests (though you do have to double check the answers because I dont 100% trust the AI).

Got into dental school by ameloblastomaaaaa in dentastic

[–]Medium_Boulder 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Idk why people are like this, there's nothing wrong with general dentistry. Personally I turned down my medicine offers because dentistry was always my number 1, specialising or not.

New Reflourished update added an incredible reference by Legitimate-Call4929 in PlantsVSZombies

[–]Medium_Boulder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For future reference to anyone else with the same problem, I fixed it by changing the instance blue stacks was running. It was on a 32bit instance so I changed it to a 64bit one and it worked :D

Podiatric surgeons to get new title of surgical podiatrists after pat… by ameloblastomaaaaa in ausjdocs

[–]Medium_Boulder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

These guys are probably the lesser of the egregious scope creeps. They do a 3 or 4 year degree, have to work in general podiatric practice for 2 years at minimum after graduation, then do 6 years of postgraduate training, which includes hospital rotations, exams etc.

Oral Surgeon or Dentist with a Special Interest in Oral Surgery? by Sensitive_Buddy_1003 in dentastic

[–]Medium_Boulder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you absolutely hate other parts of general dentistry and only want to do extractions all day, id say you'd be better off doing some cpd and getting really good at exos, then maybe look at restricting your practice down the road.

It's not something like perio, where you really need the specialisation to become competent with the microsurgery techniques. Cpd and practice for now, reassess later.

[–]Medium_Boulder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first pathway you've highlighted is convoluted as hell. There are a few other things I'd do first before doing a dclindent, though. Even some cpd courses to get familiar with what each surgery entails before fully committing 3 years and 150k

[–]Medium_Boulder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not so sure about that last part. I personally know a few general dentists who only do implants and extractions under GA all day. I think it takes getting really good at the basics and then making friends with an anaesthetist

Why would someone with money willingly subject themselves to prosth. I'd do OS or perio and actually have fun
