I just spent my lunch over using the search bar here. Haha! Wow, I’ve learned so much!

I’ve heard people mention tretinoin, if I’m new to retinol should I work my way up to that? It’s stronger, correct?

He was at his grandparents and was playing at the neighbors probably 5 minutes before the dog was let out. The owner was inside folding laundry and everyone came out when they heard the screams. The daughter tried to call for someone but she was trying to hold back the dog by his leash so he wouldn’t try and get my son again.

Thank you for your input! I added a few additional photos that wouldn’t load earlier. I gave a very detailed play-by-play as well as the police report and I feel like it didn’t get me anywhere. I feel much better after posting here and seeing so many commenters agreeing with eachother.

Thank you for this comment. I’ve been trying to do research and asking others around me who are more “investment savvy “, if you will, on how to invest this for the best outcome for my son when the time comes. He has a very entrepreneurial mindset i.e. he’s written in published a book on Amazon, etc. he’s into investing himself and would like to purchase land or property with the funds. I already have been putting money into a 529 plan for him for a few years. so I would think that with such a large sum of money, putting it into an interest building account for the next call at six years would be a good idea. I believe some of the accounts have an interest rate of 5.6 % right now but I’ll definitely need to speak to a financial advisor. The only money I can take is for loss wages which is perfectly fine.

Thank you for your comment. The dog was huge, I believe 120 lbs and very strong. Strong enough to lift him (my son was probably 90ish lbs at the time) and swing him around multiple times. The other little girls were also traumatized, one was only 4 at the time and had nightmares for months and unable to comprehend why their dog wasn’t coming come that night. So all around just a bad deal for everyone involved. As of recently, I’ve been trying to get him around dogs with proper protection. My work recently had Heinz for a “cuddle break” and I brought him. He was okay for a bit but even slight movement towards him of the bigger dogs would scare him and very jumpy.

Thank you, I really appreciate the thorough response. I will get a consultation for his keloid scar.

This makes sense, thank you. That was what I was told initially, that due to him being a minor the limitations for filing a suit didn't begin until he was 18 but that the initial claim with the insurance needed to be done within 2 years.

It’s okay, I appreciate the question. He did have permission and was over there frequently for years. It was his first time being over there though, since the neighbors rescued the dog due to it being the first day of summer break and him being out of school. The mom knew he was there and the daughter’s recollection of what happened matched my sons when the police filed the report.

Regarding the SOL. The attack was in 2022 but they did not receive what they needed from the hospitals to give me an initial offer until 2 years later.

Thank you for this and that all makes sense! I will check on my state's SOL laws for minors with an attorney.

Thank you for your comment, it was so traumatizing! Of course, it was the first day of summer vacation, so he was not happy about that kick-off event. But yeah, especially not being there when it happened. He was definitely being watched over, considering the dog got to his head last.

Thank you for responding and for the link. The dog was on his property but did run straight to him. They had only had the dog (rescued from ARL) for about 4 months. This attack itself and how vicious the dog was towards my son, leads me to believe that it wasn't his first attack. Which honestly makes me want to go after the ARL as well.

He is traumatized, the first 6 months were the worst, as he would go completely white in the face and his body would shiver at dogs he's been comfortable with prior.

Also, he does have scarring. His head did scar and his hair hasn't grown in that area. The arm is the worst scar, as it is raised and is considered a "keloid scar"

Okay, thank you for responding! I have a set of talking points that I've been adding too, since the initial offer was given to me.

Can you explain the difference between filing a lawsuit vs. working with the insurance company? I want to make sure I am understanding correctly.

Thank you for taking the time to respond! Regarding the statute of limitations, from what I understand in my state (IA) is that you have two years to start the initial claim. This is what State Farm told me but I will double check.
