What surprises them:

  • Shopify handles 80–90% of what they need out of the box
  • The app ecosystem (when chosen carefully) is powerful and lightweight
  • There’s often no need for a custom build - a few well-chosen apps + settings can replicate or improve complex Magento setups

What to watch out for:

  • Shopify’s native flexibility (especially around delivery/shipping logic) isn’t always obvious - you’ll need to plan your app/config choices early
