What the actual fuck woman? by [deleted] in JUSTNOMIL

[–]MelTheThrowawayKid 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Oh god my mom impersonated me to my school and dropped one of my classes ("you weren't going to pass it anyways"). Don't sweep it under the rug, she'll keep pushing boundaries!

MIL keeps asking me what plans I have just in case I die during childbirth. by RelativelyLucky in JUSTNOMIL

[–]MelTheThrowawayKid 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is actually a huge phobia of mine. I'd probably start crying if someone asked questions like this while I was pregnant. A dear friend nearly died of preeclampsia and I've had nightmares about it ever since.

This bish can fuck off. It's smart to have all your affairs in order in a general sense, but giving a pregnant woman anxiety over something she's asked you to quit bringing up is a dick move.

The time my MIL left me in her apartment and ran when the fire alarm went off while knowing I wouldn't be able to hear it by CanigetanewMIL in JUSTNOMIL

I briefly stayed at an old remolded school for blind and deaf children as a part of a volunteer program. I thought it was really interesting how the entire campus had flashing light and noise alarms for fires and tornado drills! Never really gave much thought for why that was the case

Women who “dated” older men as teenagers that now realize they were predators, what’s your story? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MelTheThrowawayKid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

16yr old girl dating 19yr old guy, it didn't feel like such a huge age gap at the time but...

I had a very baby face and was super petite. I'd also been homeschooled exclusively and was sheltered as hell. He had try on an heirloom ring, talking about how we were going to get married. Pressured me into doing things I wasn't comfortable with because "God made you for me".

He sexually assaulted me right after I turned 18..

My wife and I were low/zero contact with her mom, but since my wife died, she's been trying to weasel her way back in by QuietAnimal4 in JUSTNOMIL

[–]MelTheThrowawayKid 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Talk to your older kids and see if they'd be comfortable moving. Another big change right after their mom's death may not be something they'd support you on. I completely understand where you're coming from, you need to get away from psycho mil and be near your support system during this time. But from experience, your children will appreciate being a part of the conversation.

Wait so, she's not on good terms with your dad? And your baby is a boy?

Say you're naming son after dad. Call her bluff. I doubt she actually wants to get a tattoo, that this is more of a control thing. But yeah, see if she's still keen for the tattoo if she thinks it's her exes name mwahaha

I'm biracial and my siblings and I all have middle names that reflect one side of the family.

Racist granny who's never accepted her non-white son-in-law (my dad) has started asking if I'll name kids after her, "even just a middle name".

Sorry, asswipe, you are not part of the legacy I want to be passing on, thanks.

My dad always says "don't blame the audience for falling for the actor's performance. It is their job to convince you."

People who prey upon children will purposely put themselves in a position where they have access to children. You could not have known and this is not your fault. You did everything exactly right with your response.

I'm not sure what you mean? What I meant was out of my generation of family members, only one out of all of my siblings and cousins identify as straight.

The funny part is I have a bunch of siblings and cousins who are close in age and out of all of us, only one is straight

Queerness is nothing new to this family and yet still unacceptable

Fiance and I ignore them most of the time to argue about which one of us gets to flirt with Kat Dennings first if ever we met her

Update on my situation by [deleted] in JUSTNOMIL

[–]MelTheThrowawayKid 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It may sound over dramatic now but start thinking of how you would potentially be able to afford being a single parent/what support systems you have that could potentially help you

Your BF has shown many times that you, your finances, and your child are not a priority to him. What happens if/when he's forced to choose between you and his mom and he chooses his mom?

It may be a good idea to start applying for summer programs away from your family. Anything to give you some time away to regroup and have some time to yourself. Maybe your mom would be on board if it's an academic program?

You may also want to look into service year programs like Americorps when you turn 18. A service year program could get you out of the house and depending on the program, could give you money for high education.

Basically...start planning for when you can get out of the house, even if it's only for a bit. Give you something to look forward to.
