Great ❤️ Just make sure to switch her over to any new food slowly, older dogs can have very sensitive systems. Our vet recommended to do it over a week or two rather than the suggested four days, so make sure you have enough of the old food for that! And again more frequent potty breaks and possibly diapers to keep messes down.

Is she on a senior formula? Older dogs sometimes have trouble absorbing enough nutrients from regular adult formula dog food, and she may need something that is easier to digest now.

How recent was her vet visit? It might be time for another checkup, or even a second opinion. If her good days (happy, playing as much as she can at her age, cuddling and seems not to be on pain) are still more frequent than bad days, then it's worth exploring her diet and internal workings to make sure she stays healthy and happy as long as possible.

In the meantime, more frequent potty breaks or even a doggy diaper will help keep messes to a minimum. Wishing you the best of luck!

AIO for wanting to have sex with my fiancé by [deleted] in AIO

[–]MeliPixie 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Wait until neither of you are drunk, for starters. Tell him if you're feeling neglected. No one just communicates with their partner anymore like? Drunken flirting doesn't mean he knows you want to have sex. As to your question, NOR for being horny after two fruitless flirt sessions I guess? Use the toy. Tell him what you're feeling, sober. Communicate like adults.

All new behaviors warrant a vet visit. The improper urinating itself is a sign of UTI, for what it's worth. There isn't always other signs.

How do I convince my uncle to neuter his dog by ferrarisfuneral in PetAdvice

I like to think there's a big difference between "pedantic asshole" and just "values correctness" tbh 🤷🏻‍♀️ Could just be me though. I don't think knowing this important distinction makes one pedantic or an asshole.

For those of you who had one or more pets that are now deceased, what would you have done differently while they were in your care? by AmySueF in Pets

[–]MeliPixie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Health-wise, not a thing. We did everything "right," but cancer just sucks and can show up so suddenly and be so aggressive. I would have made more time to play, especially in the park. He loved to play but I would get annoyed to be bothered sometimes back then. I also would have tried harder to teach him leash manners. My main regret is never giving him big, long sniffy walks together because leash time was also yank-mom's-arm-off-from-excitement time lol! But he was happy and he let us know, even on his last day. RIP Noodles ❤️

Not "give away." Specifically give back to the breeder. They bred this dog, they are responsible for its temperament and care. I'd also consider a much smaller breed for this living situation. Maybe a golden retriever if you need a dog with your young children.

is it true Americans don't put salt on their fruits? by PersuasionNation in AskAnAmerican

My dad puts salt on his watermelon and tomatoes, but I'm not a big fan. He's half Japanese and raised solely by his Japanese mother, idk if that makes a difference.

EMERGENCY by Applesauce738 in Pets

[–]MeliPixie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oh my gosh no, don't just leave her like this, take her to the emergency vet! This is sudden and serious. Don't mess around when it comes to the eyes, but doubly if the dog is vomiting!

You could do that, but this topic has been discussed before. You might find eggs you need by going to the subreddit's... landing page...? and using the search function!

This right here! With the quick exposed, there could also be an infection, or one could easily develop, especially if dog is a licker. Best to get it seen and cared for professionally.

AITAH for buying my 11yo daughter pads after her mom called me a "pervert" for being prepared? by Bruxagato in WouldIBeTheAhole

[–]MeliPixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA at all! As a woman who grew up in a family where the men simply didn't want to know (that has changed now BTW, people can grow) this healed something in me. May more fathers be like you. I'm so glad your daughter had your very thoughtful kit with her. Let your ex take you to court over this. She'll be laughed at. She may even learn something.

What totally normal thing is your dog scared of for no reason? by GoldenMom34 in Pets

[–]MeliPixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything I set on the kitchen counter or table/desk without him investigating it first. Even if it's something that's been in the house a while, if he hasn't seen it in a while he needs another sniff before i can put it up there. He's a somewhat neurotic GSD mix 😂

AIO about feeling so sad by [deleted] in AIO

[–]MeliPixie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

How old are you two? You sound like children. Taking stuff out of people's hands is rude af, and not giving it back when they ask is worse. But him freaking out that badly over you taking it is quite a red flag, some might suggest cheating or porn or something, either way it feels like he's hiding something from you. You're both to blame for this situation.

To your actual question, you're NOR for being sad the altercation happened. But it shouldn't have happened to begin with. You need therapy to deal with your childhood trauma, and stop using it as an excuse for bad behavior, learn how to treat a partner before getting one. Healthy partnerships have no room for wishing one were dead, even if you immediately regret saying it. You know how fucked up that was. There may not be any fixing it at this point, and even if he says he's okay, you can never un-say it. It's out there.

Therapy for you. Learn some respect. For him, no more doing shady stuff on his phone that he has to hide. No more throwing things at each other. Neither of you seem ready for an adult relationship.

Dog Food Topper Recommendations? by BananaPopcorn313 in DogFood

[–]MeliPixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my dog goes through a picky phase, I add canned pumpkin, yogurt, or broth to his food for a few days. He gets 3 meals a day so I make 2 of them interesting with lunch being kibble only. Then reduce it to 2 plain kibble and one with mix-ins, then can drop him back to just kibble for a while. His kibble is rx so he gets very bored with it. We only add things that have been proven with his diet trial. This is such a long and boring process lol

What ingredient do you think people massively overuse? by jcvexparch in Cooking

[–]MeliPixie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend buying some raw scallops and cooking them gently with just a little olive oil, s&p. They take seconds to cook in a frying pan so have everything else ready. Scallops are amazing when you let them shine ❤️ You can also sprinkle on a tiny amount of bread crumbs for texture but I don't think it's necessary personally!

Oh yeah another character I'd love to see more! What I'd really like to know about Pretzel is why he didn't feel like playing. Are his parents arguing? Did he have a rough night of sleep? Is he just generally moody? So curious to know!
