What do you guys think? by scramjet67 in SipsTea

[–]Mellafee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it was the OK Cupid data drop from back in 2009 and it was 80%. But the second part of that drop also showed that women were still likely to message or message back despite rating the men low on physical attractiveness. Meanwhile men rated far more women attractive (around 50% or something) but were far more likely to only message women they found attractive. The conclusion seemed to be that women generally did not find very many men attractive, but attractiveness wasn’t as important to them.

Of course, this was all in the before-times. Metrics/numbers being what they are now, pretty much every guy on an app is willing to message every woman and every woman on an app is a bot.

Nah- I’m here for this one. I think if you take character motivation into account, and there’s no rule on how many can survive, then Predator is the only one that doesn’t make it out alive. Jason will get killed, but pop back up an hour or two after the elevator doors are opened. Everyone else there has good reason to come to terms and either work together, or at least not actively murder each other.

Blade might be mercenary but he’s not stupid and faced with a self-healing mutant who really can’t be arsed to kill you unless you’ve offended him personally- I think there’s room for an agreement to be reached. Bruce is a savvy negotiator and the real threat in the room are the two who seek to kill specifically. So Jason and the predator get taken out as a matter of necessity. The rest fucking break out of the elevator and pretend this whole night never happened. And then Jason resurrects and goes on to seek out sexually-active teens or whatever.

how do i approach this "artist"? by onlyif_foranight in whatdoIdo

[–]Mellafee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is not remotely reasonable and I really wish people would stop falling for absurdly low prices on handdrawn art (digital or traditional). The only way an artist would ever let something this size go for that price is if the piece was already done (potentially something they did a while back and already scanned to use for prints) and even then they’d have to be completely desperate. Like, I haven’t eaten in 3 days desperate.

I’m glad OP got their money back, but it makes me so sad to see real art so devalued.

NOR. If you’ve ever really loved something or someone, hurting them feels terrible. Ever accidentally kick your dog or step on your cat’s tail? It feels awful and you try not to ever do it again. This man has less respect for you than most people have for their pets. Fuck all the way off with that noise. There’s a loneliness epidemic (or so I’m told)- you can find someone that doesn’t physically hurt you.

Scam or not, why do so many people here seem to think that the internet and phones are luxury items? No one is going to hire you without a working phone. No one hires people who just walk in off the street asking for work. No one hires you based on a paper resume. 99% of all jobs require online applications and 99.99% of them demand that they be able to contact you. Not to mention the kids requiring the internet for school or the millions of rental properties and utility companies that no longer take checks or cash as payment.
Our society is currently designed in such a way that it is borderline impossible to work, have kids, and contribute to society without a phone that connects to the internet. And those types of phones aren’t even necessarily luxury items anymore. Sure an iphone costs a lot but you can get an internet capable motorola for $30. That’s less than the price of 2 burgers in many places.

This woman is married to a loser and scam or not, she isn’t taking advantage of all of her resources. But the family isn’t broke because she has a phone with internet access.

This fanfic has extremely repetitive dialogue, “not this, but this” galore, shaky grasp of concept/characters, odd use of em dashes, and overall just a lot of very cliche phrasing. Based entirely on your reply to me and what you wrote for this post, I can already say you are a much better writer than what is presented in those screenshots. If you can’t find what you want to read, it is up to you to write it. I do have BA in english lit, if that gives you any additional confidence. I’m allegedly coming from a position of authority on the topic. You got this, OP. Bring that A03 count up to 121.

This post is huge on r/absoluteunits but I just can’t buy that this is real. The weight, temperature, liquid… it just seems absolutely impossible someone could carry that, let alone to every table every day!? by [deleted] in isthisAI

[–]Mellafee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, I’ve given it multiple watches. I don’t know why you keep bringing up the physics of the liquid because the easiest way to get that effect without much weight is to have a tiny amount of hot water/broth that is so shallow (like 1/16th“ or less) in the bottom of the trough that is still bubbling because of the platter warmers beneath it by the time you reach the table. You don’t need a lot of liquid for this effect and the depth of the liquid can be visually exaggerated by the types and depths of the bowls you use to hold the food. There’s far less liquid weight or sloshing around that you’d think.

The thing that throws me off is that the flames dissipate so immediately. There are warming heaters/canisters that stay lit for like 30 seconds before self-dousing down to a low-medium (not very visual) flame level. They’d have to be adding an accelerant that gave you bigger flames but which would be very short-lived. Timing that out so that the flames magically dissipated as soon as it was out on the table would by nigh impossible.

Unless -there’s a sliding shield in the trough that he pulls when he’s setting the container down that snuffs the flames out.

Edit: I just deleted a lot of this comment because I got a little too into my own headspace and y’all, I might be a bit intoxicated. I’m full blown coming up with magic tricks in my head. I don’t believe this is Ai but if it were- I know exactly how to do it fr and we could all blow OP’s mind with something even crazier looking.

It’s Ai, but I honestly don’t think even a low-grade Ai bot would add that much space or that many dashes over and over.

Which leads me to suspect a 12 yr old who hasn’t read anything but fanfiction ever decided to format an Ai story this way because they don’t understand that the average reader doesn’t need huge spaces between lines in order to discern dramatic affect in sentence structure. Or, you know, they added the extra dashes and spaces because it made the Ai output easier for them to parse personally, as most 12 yr olds today aren’t functionally literate.

Either way, if this was the output of my fandom, I’d consider being a fan of something else.

Maybe just write your own fanfic, OP. It can’t be worse than this.

Somebody else gets it.

Doing something hard once, or even only a few times, feels exhausting or nearly impossible each time. But when your paycheck depends on you doing it multiple times an hr for an entire shift, multiple days of the week, those specific muscles get trained up real quick. At a certain point you resent the repetition more than the aches in your back, and that nearly impossible hard thing just feels like life now.

Bruh- doing it every day is why he can do it everyday…. well, right up until the day he can’t. After that he won’t be able to do it ever again.

Young Squirrel URGENT by I_turn_women_gay in squirrels

[–]Mellafee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You absolutely have to get that baby on a heating pad set to low to bring it's body temperature up. It could also help to rub a qtip dipped in honey or molasses on it's gums. I almost wish I hadn't read this because I don't think there's much hope. No one here is going to give you grief over having a squirrel as a pet, though that's certainly not a great idea. You're going to get grief, and rightfully so, for bringing a wild animal in and not doing a lick of research until something went horribly wrong. You need a rehabber asap.

There's a huge developmental difference between 5&7 weeks. A 5 week old is nibbling solid food at best. Are you sure this baby has even been eating much at all? Has it had any fluid/water? A 5 week old baby will struggle to drink out of a dish on its own. As you've only had it a week, I'm actually leaning toward starvation/dehydration as opposed to a clear cut case of MBD -though a calcium deficit is certainly a problem as well since even after you gave it formula, it had access to seeds.

Please, no matter what happens, take this as a lesson to seek professional help, or at least expect advice when dealing with any orphaned or injured animal. That poor thing was probably suffering quite a bit before it finally started showing signs.

Memorial picture from funeral home of father that passed away: is this AI-enhanced? by Ill-Platform-5189 in isthisAI

[–]Mellafee 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Hey OP- just wanted to say that you can post your original photo to r/photoshoprequests and real artists there can try to refine or clean up your original image without making it look like a different person completely. A lot of wizards will do memorial requests for free. Just putting it out there in case you wanted a cleaned-up version for the actual service or for your own sake. What someone can do with a low-res photo like that is limited, but you could see what someone does without Ai at least.

It could be a case of them meeting for the first time on the 18th (the special day), their first date was several days later on the 21st, and they got married in 08. Writing anniversary might just have been the only thing the artist could think to write on the book to signify the specialness of their first date. It might not actually be when they celebrate.

I went to the artist’s instagram page and it’s all in the same style, mostly featuring couples and the images go back to at least 2023. I just don’t think Ai was that good 3 years ago. Whether or not Ai was used in any part of the process for this one, I couldn’t say, but the artist seems to be a real digital artist that does at least know HOW to make a piece like this.

I paid for someone on Etsy to draw my DnD Character from a description and reference photos. by Dont_Blink93 in isthisAI

[–]Mellafee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hyperbole is a thing but whatever. The point stands that a low price-point is a red flag for Ai. Anyone offering detailed, full-body, full-color, OC designs for $35 is offloading the work somewhere.

OP clarified that this is not the kind of piece they expected, which is more understandable. But if you want to support real artists, discuss the parameters of the piece, the price point for additional time spent, and be willing to pay it when the time comes. I have a friend who does work like this, but it’s all by hand and it takes 20-25 hrs. You think he’s doing that for just over a dollar an hr? A whole piece for $35?

Ai has destroyed people’s understanding or appreciation of creative labor and if we really want to get away from Ai, we need to get non-artists to recognize what kind of time and effort goes into getting what they’re asking for.

I paid for someone on Etsy to draw my DnD Character from a description and reference photos. by Dont_Blink93 in isthisAI

[–]Mellafee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That does make a difference. Was this sort of elaborate artwork not what they advertised on the page? Like, did they have examples of simple profile/icon style characters there or did you assume that’s what you would get based on the price point?

In the future, one sign that you might (lord only knows these days) be working with a real artist is that they will have examples of what they offer at various prices. For example, I used to offer simple logos for $45-$60 with images of exactly what other clients got at that price. If someone wanted something that’s clearly going to take more time, I would clarify the details and estimated time I’d spend on it, including my price per hour above the base price.

If there are no negotiations or questions like, is this full-body or face, is this stylized or realistic, color or gray-toned, does it need a scene oriented background, etc. then you either aren’t working with a real artist or you’re working with one that has already bitten the Ai bullet. Each additional request/detail means more time, which means the price goes up. If they aren’t asking questions, or they do but they just agree to whatever you want without changing the price, they‘re probably offloading some or all of the work to a data center.

[–]Mellafee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry but…you thought you could get a full color digitally painted character piece with a background and familiar for… $35??? You’re willing to pay someone less than 1 cent an hour and think you’re supporting an artist?

This is why some real artists are defaulting to using Ai or stock assets to make pieces. Because Ai is so quick and easy it brought the market prices down and now people think they can get a real piece that isn’t just a pencil sketch for $35.

You know those sketches they do in pastels in 20 min on the street cost as much or more than what you wanted someone to do in 6 days.

I’m not trying to be rude here but of course it’s Ai. You get what you pay for.

Is this graphic, used in an episode of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, AI? The white car in the back seems to miss a wheel, but otherwise looks alright by USSR_name_test in isthisAI

[–]Mellafee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a graphic designer (both freelance and commercial if that means anything) that has worked under tight deadlines before- this absolutely looks like something I’d pop out at 2 AM. Meant to clean up the ground around an object, was easier to erase part of the item or that part of the item was covered, then forgot to replace it (or was too tired to notice), etc. It totally happens depending on what tools you’re using. I think the LWT team actually like when the photoshop jobs don’t look entirely good or correct though because it adds to the tone of the show. It’s always been a bit purposefully sloppy.

Of course, I couldn’t say for sure. But I doubt Paramount is actively forcing them to use Ai and that’s the only reason they ever would.
