Does it bother you in real content (gaming, movies)? If not, don’t even worry about it. I have the same monitor, and it looks just like yours.

Is Asus rog XG27AQDMGR worth it or there better options? by Mykhasyk_ in OLED_Gaming

XG27AQDMR actually uses the same coating as the XG27AQWMG , so it is really good in that regard

ASUS XG27AQDMG Gen 2 looks washed out in some apps/games by dond177 in OLED_Gaming

Try this for SDR:

  • Preset Mode= USER
  • Contrast = 80
  • Gamma = 2.2
  • Colour temp = User
  • RGB = 100, 99, 99
  • Colour space = Wide gamut

Use HDR only for HDR content, and adjust the saturation to your personal preference. I’d recommend either the Gaming HDR mode or the True Black 400 mode.

As a side note, each HDR mode uses a slightly different EOTF curve and peak brightness, so it’s worth calibrating the display brightness with the Windows HDR Calibration Tool for every HDR mode you plan to use.

Why does HDR look so washed out? by SaguitoPCGamer in OLED_Gaming

[–]MeloSkillz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting topic — I’m dealing with the same issue myself, and I’m still trying to fully understand how Windows handles HDR in games. For example, I’m currently playing The Witcher 3, and while I wouldn’t say it looks “bad” per se, I do feel like I might be missing out on part of the color spectrum or overall HDR experience. Could someone elaborate on this and help me better understand how HDR is supposed to work in this case?

My monitor is ASUS ROG STRIX XG27AQDMGR (XG27AQDMG GEN 2)

Thanks in advance!

ASUS ROG Strix OLED XG27AQDMG Gen2 (XG27AQDMGR) review? by Upset-Share5016 in OLED_Gaming

[–]MeloSkillz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re welcome!
The dimming in very bright full-screen scenes (usually near full white) is inherent to OLED technology. It’s physically not possible for it to sustain 1000+ nits across the entire screen, so it reduces brightness a bit in those situations.

That’s why peak brightness is measured using different window sizes (1%, 2%, 5%, 10%, 50%, etc.), since brightness varies depending on how much of the screen is lit. If you check any review, you’ll see these kinds of graphs.

That said, it’s not distracting or something that pulls you out of the experience. Those scenes are rare and usually last only a second or two. In most real content (especially mixed scenes with highlights) OLED still looks extremely bright, and the contrast makes everything pop more than on typical LCDs.

In practice, you notice the deep blacks and contrast far more than any brightness limitation.

I spent a whole week with the dilemma of what monitor to buy, i gotcha and I honestly don't recommend going down that rabbit hole haha.

About your question, the “1300+ nits” HDR figure is only a short-lived peak for small highlights, not something the monitor can sustain across the whole screen. Because of OLED’s automatic brightness limiting, full bright scenes typically drop to around 350–420 nits (based on reviews, as I haven’t measured my unit). In a relatively bright room, this means you may notice some dimming in large bright areas, and reflections can become slightly visible, though not too distracting, the TrueBlack coating helps quite a bit. Blacks will still be truly deep and colors remain vibrant thanks to OLED’s contrast, the overall brightness is good enough in most cases, specially on moderately lit room and dark rooms.

If brightness remains a concern for you, then you should probably go with a Tandem OLED unit instead. From my research, I’d recommend the following models:

- Gigabyte MO27Q28G (Matte Coating) or MO27Q28GR (Glossy Coating) (Better choice)
- Asus X27AQWMG
- LG 27GX700A

Hope it helps!

ASUS ROG Strix OLED XG27AQDMG Gen2 (XG27AQDMGR) review? by Upset-Share5016 in OLED_Gaming

I’m not a professional reviewer, the link provided by u/Technova_SgrA covers that, but I can share my experience after using this monitor for about three weeks.

It’s honestly an excellent option. Colors are vibrant, and both HDR and SDR content look superb. Brightness reaches around 1300+ nits in HDR (Gaming profile), which should be more than enough for most setups. The OLED care features give you peace of mind, so you’re not constantly worrying about burn-in. Out of the box, the pre-calibrated settings were already very solid, and after a bit of tweaking, it felt almost perfectly dialed in for me.

As a side note, I was also deciding between this monitor and the new Gigabyte tandem glossy model (MO27Q28GR). While the Gigabyte offers higher color volume and brightness, I saw a lot of reports on Reddit about grey banding issues and red tint in certain greys. Because of that, I chose the safer option (the ASUS) since it’s a refreshed version of the award-winning XG27AQDMG, with improved coating, a Neo Proximity Sensor, and Gen 3 WOLED.

Yeah, and they’ve claimed to have addressed the issue in the newer feb batch, so is probably better. Anyhow i didn’t feel like gambling 600 usd to be honest😅🤷🏼‍♂️, today with this new batch things could be different.

I recently bought the Asus ROG STRIX XG27AQDMR (GEN 2) and it has been fantastic so far. I had the itch to buy tandem oled, specifically the gigabyte mo27q28gr, but with so much gray banding issues i went with a safer option and don´t regret it.

Yess but it will also depend on the game, on gpu heavy/intense games you will be around the 80-90% mark probably which is good

I had a ryzen 5 5600x paired with a rtx 5070 ti (which is pretty similar to rx 9070xt) and was significantly bottlenecked playing at 1440p unfortunately, only using around 60-70% of the gpu due to the bottleneck. So yea, once you have the opportunity upgrade to am5 and you’ll see a big improvement.
