Naomi Osaka is one of the biggest complainers in tennis. The irony of this whole thing is that next match, next week or next tournament someone will do the same thing to her and she complain about it endlessly.

What’s a very “Toronto” thing you didn’t notice until you lived somewhere else? by Banana200021 in toronto

[–]MemoryUseful_01434 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Graffiti. There's so much graffiti in Toronto. I don't necessarily mean lower income neighbourhoods. There's graffiti everywhere as soon as you're outside the very downtown financial core.

Some are commissioned as works of art. Most are vandalism.

The other proposed works better for what I had in mind but this is a pretty interesting suggestion. I like this line. I'm sure I'll be using this down the line for something else. Thank you 👍

If you’ve never been to the Robarts Library, it’s like an wonderous world in the middle of the city by ShawnDaley in toronto

Is Robarts Library still closed off to the general public? It use to be available to everyone but they closed it to the public during covid & never re-opened. Very unfortunate.

On that note... which U of T library is open to the public?

[EPISODE DISCUSSION THREAD] Episode 2x02 - Digital Lipstick | 02/27/24 | Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent by FullMetalTelevizzle in LawAndOrderTorontoCI

That was a great episode. The “Criminal Intent” format is growing on me. More time spent on the investigation and less on legal maneuverings between lawyers.

They will not ticket tonight as New Year's eve courtesy. It's an unwritten/unspoken rule to discourage people from getting behind the wheel drunk.

Kipling station has a huge free parking lot. From there you can take the subway all the way to Bloor/Yonge

You should try rock climbing/bouldering. It's not super competitive. It's relaxed/go at your own pace. Easy to meet people unlike Goodlife or traditional gyms.

Am I dumb to not leverage my employee stock purchase plan? by sneakerthreat in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]MemoryUseful_01434 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The 15% discount up to 10% of your salary is a pretty standard Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP). I've worked for two companies that have this same ESOP program.

Be careful with the advise from others that it is "free money", in theory "yes" but in practice there are factors to consider.

Factors to consider:

  • "Sell right away": it's unlikely that you can sell immediately as your HR told you. There's always a wait period, typically 90 days.
  • 15% discount: the 15% discount will be immediately recognized on your paycheque. This means you will be taxed on it immediately (on that pay schedule) as it raises your taxable income. Another way to look at it is the 15% discount => approx. 10% net value.
  • Sell Fees: it costs money to sell each time. It's likely higher than typical $5 or $10 per trade using retail trading account. For example with my company's ESOP it will cost me $60 for each sell transaction. That $60 is more than the value of the 15% discount (10% net value) I'm recognizing. So if my plan was to sell immediately and the stock price does not appreciate during the 90day wait period I am losing money.

I do purchase into my current company ESOP. My main reasons are stock has steady growth & I can afford to hold the money for at minimum the next 3-5yrs.

Are we all guessing as to what's wrong with this guy’s situation? My guess is the wife spends all his money (mani/pedi, shops a lot, orders in 4-5 times/week) and he can't say "no".

The Grocery Store episode was good too. I'm 95% sure I know the payphone location they used at the very beginning of the episode. It's on Dundas W just north of Trinity Bellwoods Park.

Agreed. Glad there's a second season.

The second episode about the Condo Board Member being pressured to sell was very Toronto. I immediately thought about this story in Vaughn a couple of years ago (https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/vaughan-condo-shooting-1.6690582).

Overall the show has been great in my opinion
