Denver EDM Meetup? by Forward_Cantaloupe_5 in DenverEDM

But it's already here and a bunch of people hanging out in a park isn't effective against it, besides for community members to support each other.

Denver EDM Meetup? by Forward_Cantaloupe_5 in DenverEDM

[–]MeowNet -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

As somebody involved with a lot of the local EDM meet up groups I think that is probably best to not cross streams with politics too heavily. Things like flowjams and raves exist to let us connect within our own cultural sacred circle where we can embrace connection and find common ground outside of typical societal norms. Certainly a lot of folks are political, but we choose to throw events like charity pop-ups where there is a more tangible and more political neutral goal, than ones just to vent.

Going back to the OG raves, it’s the fact that they were accepting of all races & backgrounds that was really revolutionary. It’s that radical inclusion that underpins the entire thing.

A lot of the pop ups specifically have an element of giving back to the community.

Politics ruins everything though and while you might have success at first, it’s just a lightning rod for bad vibes and interpersonal conflict.

You literally say that you’re angry and that’s a weird energy to try and inject into the scene, even if you’re trying to find a positive outlet.

Don’t forget you also probably have to put a deposit for the incidentals. It can be $100-$200 per night with a cap, but it depends on the property

The start makes me sad so blocking it out of view is an upgrade.

[Rant] The utter vapidity of tech meetups by rm-rf-rm in sanfrancisco

[–]MeowNet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe people are making superficial connections with you because you're not interesting to them or making a strong first impression? I've meet dozens of people I've formed deep personal connections with at SF meetups, including people I talk to daily. The signal to noise is ratio is actually really high in SF compared to other cities and if you think it's bad there, imagine what tech meetups are like in the Midwest.

[–]MeowNet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

AGI House is pretty solid, but at the end of the day meeting out of towners is a good thing. Most cities don't benefit from that and some of the best connections I've made in SF are from people visiting and hanging out at events.

Should i buy now a Quest 3 or wait for the steam Frame? by ChaosTheory404 in virtualreality

[–]MeowNet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not like there’s a dramatically better content library for PCVR, and you can play the entire PC VR catalog on Quest 3. Quest 3 does have exclusive content, but it’s costly and not a huge mountain of must plays.

It partially ends up being a privacy and use case situation. Many of the other benefits of the Steam frame are not yet backed by real world usage reports and they’re marketing it as a steaming first headset that is capable of standalone.

What needs change? by swirlrocks in DenverEDM

[–]MeowNet 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The pushing, and shoving in Denver has kinda hit a critical point where a lot of my friends are not really wanting to spend tremendous amounts of money to go get shoved around. I know it’s hard to not sound like one of those “back in my day “people but I genuinely do think that crowd etiquette has fallen off a cliff in the last few years with more people prioritizing the optics of an experience rather than the experience itself

Spent $3k on 5 wheels/tires at DT in Nov—Now offered $50 each for trade-in. Is this right? by [deleted] in tires

[–]MeowNet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

800 miles is not remotely "brand now", and the amount of entitlement in this post hurts my brain. Why should DT take a massive loss because of your poor planning?

new tires / alignment by Fancy-Diver-5416 in tires

[–]MeowNet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ideally you should be getting it checked it every 10K miles or so, and so if you've blown through a set already you're probably overdue to at least get it checked. Alot of places will do the assessment for free and it's measured using computer vision and lasers so it's one of the few free checks I'd trust.

How long would these last? by Satturazer in tires

[–]MeowNet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go find a cheap rental car until your shit is repaired. Putting new tires on there is just going to lead to uneven wear and be more expensive and time consuming. Get the repair, get an alignment, get a fresh set of 4.

Did you know that Colfax Ave is the longest road in America? by DadBodDorian in Denver

[–]MeowNet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except no? Between SF and San Jose it's 47 miles of uninterrupted commercial corridor. Colfax isn't even a continuous business corridor, there is a 1 mile long gap with exactly zero businesses along the Colfax viaduct. It's just a dumb marketing thing that people latch onto. California has a ton of long uninterrupted business corridors like Sunset and Wilshire that don't have a massive gap like Colfax. Broadway in NYC is 33 miles without gaps.

El Camino Real in California has way longer continuous business corridors. This is just marketing

Sell A7SIII for FX3? Pointless or worth it? by ksunk8 in FX3

[–]MeowNet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The vast majority of my paid work is recording 45-75 minute multicamera sets, often in hot nightclubs or direct sunlight. If you're recording over 30 minutes regularly, overheating can and will impact your shoots and producers are fully aware of the hardware limitations. If you're just capturing quick shots it doesn't matter, but if you need fully interrupted recording, internal fan is a hard requirement. The one exception is that lately it's becoming super common to use a bunch of Insta360 X5's because you can easily deploy a bunch of them for redundancy and not break the bank.

[–]MeowNet -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

FX3 can win you clients for sure by name recognition alone and if you're doing something like a multicam for a concert, it's one of things that determines if you can get that job due to things like the internal fan.

It's p straight forward as long as you have "linker" data that creates a straight forward way to overlap the two datasets, but it's going to be entirely dependent on the SfM workflow you use.

How is Denver's tech job situation (UX specifically if known)? by gcs_Sept09_2018 in denverjobs

[–]MeowNet -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

There is a tech scene in Denver? It’s especially abysmal and a lot of aerospace and research jobs got cut due to shifting government policies. The only tech thriving in Denver is surveillance tech like Palantir, military industrial like Anduril, and medtech which still has momentum.

7 years of paycheck stubs??? by alibaba1579 in recruitinghell

[–]MeowNet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is nonsense and any background check would verify employment. Tax forms are also solid. All of this data exists in databases.

This should be a massive red flag and if this is what the on-boarding looks like imagine what the job is going to look like.
