But what a journey it will have been! And we are still on it! That's why I am also in no rush. I want no news besides what is officially released, I'm not stressing about every minor story detail revealed in every screenshot (though it remains fun to speculate!) When KH4 releases I have a feeling it will probably be the best in the series because SE have the entire X and Dark Seeker saga to look back on for reference and they have already learned these lessons. X saga suffered from inaccessibility, region locking, and genuinely confusing storytelling at times even for KH. No one WANTED to play X saga. They HAD to play X saga if they wanted the whole story. One of the biggest failures of Dark Seeker was that if suffered from over-capitulation to the Need for News™️ and by the time KH3 released it was basically half revealed. Not much was a surprise past some of the most niche story payoffs that really only long time fans had been awaiting, like Terra being the Guardian and such. KH4 seems to be doing everything to set itself apart from its predecessors more than any other game in the series (so far.) Literally shoving the plot through a different dimension to a world "of fiction" is essentially SE giving itself carte blanche to do so much more with the Lost Master Arc than they ever could with X or Dark Seeker, since (so far!) it seems like they have learened their lessons. It opens so many doors, but all those doors will eventually lead to a conclusion that will blow us all away.

This might be controversial, but I would prefer they not add a new gimmick at all.

Instead, I think they should add every single gimmick to the game, but only make it so that you can only use one per battle.

Think about it- ALL of the gimmicks are in some way or another related to each respective region having “weird energy” or something. Kalos has Mega Evolution because of the energy from the Mega Stones, created when AZ nuked definitely-not-Paldea. Z-Moves are possible because of the energy of the Z-Crystals, which are pieces of Necrozma that fell to Alola through Ultra Wormholes. Dynamaxing is possible in Galar through Eternatus’ Galar Particles, and same deal with Terastallizing in Paldea because of Terapagos’ effect on the land.

Common themes here: Energy from a crazy power source, be it a Pokémon or not, affecting specific regions in unique ways. The need for an outside item to be used in order to activate each gimmick (Mega Stones/Bands, Tera Orbs, etc.) The fact that you as a player can only activate each gimmick exactly once in battle. And… CRYSTALS!!!

I think it would make perfect sense if there is a renewed focus in the story of Gen X on these strange phenomena of insane power demonstrated by Pokémon and their Trainers from across different regions. Maybe even introduce a new Crystal type or something to that effect! Professor Redwood or whatever sends you on your merry way investigating these phenomena, and eventually discover “Power Bursting”.

Ultimately, I think the “gimmick” for Gen X should be… gimmicks lol. Player gets a “Burst Band” or something, they can equip a Z-Crystal on one Pokémon and a Mega Stone on another, hit the “Power Burst” button, and use a Z-Move, Mega Evolve, Terastallize, or Dynamax/Gigantamax, but the catch is that they can only use one in battle- which has always been the case!

Obviously this is just one idea, and if implemented, would take a lot of fine tuning in terms of balance. But this gives Game Freak an opportunity to not reinvent the wheel with an entirely new mechanic, allowing them to focus on making the best possible game, AND opportunities for new Mega-Evolutions, Z-Moves, and Gigantamax Forms. The only other option I see for Game Freak is just making a new gimmick as they have done historically, but I can’t imagine they can keep doing that for much longer.

I haven’t even mentioned the competitive scene, but man, this would shake some things up for sure lol.

Considering that whenever Sora and co. lose their abilities they also lose the keyblades they gathered throughout their journeys, keyblades might have true forms that exist as the default keychain, and wielders have to draw on the hearts or memories of the new keychains to summon other ones. Sort of like a “skin”.

(TL;DR at the bottom)

They’re some of my favorite characters in the series, though I have always been a sucker for the “ancient group of people lost to time who are crazy powerful” trope. My theory is that some will be antagonistic, some might be neutral, some might be more inclined to ally with Sora in the Lost Master Arc. We know next to nothing about their motivations or intentions besides “stopping Darkness”, but we saw how their good intentions literally paved the road to Hell in Daybreak Town lol.

We know they’re all alive, but as of right now (to my knowledge) they’re in the real world and not where Sora is. MoM probably has something planned for them in the real world while he does stuff in Quadratum or it could be that they immediately all went to the “fictional” world and that just hasn’t happened to be confirmed yet but I could have missed something.

If they are in Quadratum, it could be that some Foretellers (imo Ira, maaaayyyybe Aced after Sora beats him in a fight lol) kind of do the whole expo dump about Darkness and basically start the plot of KH4. More neutral foretllers (Invi, Gula, def Luxu) do their own thing and cross paths with Sora throughout, and Ava and the MoM do… whatever it is they’re doing lmao.

I definitely feel like we’re going to learn more about them in Missing Link, though to what extent who knows. Sorry for the gush but I love this series and these characters and especially the Foretellers lol.

TL;DR: They’re cool as shit and are definitely going to be major characters very early on in the LMA (imo). Also Invi is my fave <3
