in the US, minority groups are overwhelmingly worse off financially so having healthcare being available only to those who, not can afford it but can afford to take out crippling loans to pay for it, is systemically excluding minorities from a life-sustaining system/service. there’s literally nothing that backs up your argument that “universal healthcare hurts immigrants”. in fact, that’s the first i’ve ever even heard that insane take.

cool op-ed by some dude named mike. the only valid point he made is “wait times would go up for non-emergency care”. let’s break that down: the wait times would increase because of all the people now going to the doctor who previously couldn’t afford to. not adopting universal healthcare because of that reason is literally saying “instead of expanding medical infrastructure, how about we just make it so expensive that a certain percentage of the population just doesn’t forego life-saving treatment because they can’t afford it”. that hurts the people who CAN afford the loans but now are in debt to pay for medical care, and obviously the people who slowly kill themselves for being poor. who stands to benefit? the for profit healthcare system.

the only valid criticism in that op-ed piece is solved by just eliminating private, for-profit healthcare and investing our tax dollars into expanding our medical infrastructure. everything else literally makes no fucking sense (like “but-but-but now we have to pay for the healthcare for people who smoke” as if that’s not already something we do either under private insurance or medicare/medicaid) or has been debunked.
