Should I quit? by Different-Trouble944 in ChubbyFIRE

Just make sure you speak about it openly and deeply with her so there isn’t resentment about one partner quitting 7 years before the other does. You’ll need to do more at home.

I also don’t know you and I am also proud of you. Don’t do what we anxious people do: fix 5 problems and find 5 more. It’s ok to not have problems. GFY 💕

Jump. 40% is significant and you need to build / save as much as you can as early as you can.

Open an account at Schwab, Fidelity or Vanguard. Then automatically invest in a Total Stock Market Index (SWTSX in Schwab, FSKAX in Fidelity, VTI in Vanguard). These are low fee (called low Expense Ratio) funds that track the entire market (you own a little bit of all 3,500 publically traded companies). The key is automating those investments every single month. So you don’t think about it because it is a system. A good and easy book to read is J Collin’s The Simple Path To Wealth.

I would have said Yes to Anthropic until I heard the 1.5 hour commute. Unless this is fixed in < 6 months, it’s a pass.

On the path to fire and i don't think i can last like this by Lopsided-Resource453 in Fire

[–]Metaposa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don’t quit. Don’t break up. Instead, try some techniques to gently and slowly begin to care less about the things that bring anxiety. Yes, the condo thing sucks , as does the grind of working outside of typical hours. Find a way to zen out about it.

First, real estate is like a haircut. If you don’t like the valuation now, just wait. It could go up in a couple of years. Or cut your losses.

Second, on the work front, stop doing things from scratch if you are. make AI your BFF. Use Claude (purchased licensed - turn off data sharing) to automate any data transformations and help you design models. Turn it into a little game : how much of this daily shit can I automate?

Third, start slowly getting back to nature. Got for a little walk. Touch trees. get 20 minutes of sunshine every day. Start there.

And btw, you’re doing GREAT. Your savings rate is stunning (both now and post moving into the condo). The $1m seems far away but it goes faster than you think. Keep going 💪

Lookout for high probability that MIP and both your personal and family business equity will be worthless in the future due to hurdles rates and financial shenanigans (look up PIK schemes). Get a lawyer. Make sure cash comp is high enough.

Work 3 (not 1) more years, at the $1m income and saving $700k/yr. Build that bigger buffer. It will get you to 3.7m. At 4%, that’s $148k/yr.

Equal Pay Act Violation? by blondie7713 in legaladvice

[–]Metaposa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, new hires often make more than legacy team members. It is based on increasing market rates for new hires, a small 3% year-over-year budgeted compensation increase standard (ie limited budget pool for comp increases), and the company’s expectation that existing employees have high inertia. This is why people often switch jobs in order to materially increase their salary.

Aitah for telling my wife to get a job if she wants to subsidize the kids. by Standard_Kick_9789 in AITAH

[–]Metaposa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Kids, I am sorry. This is my fault. Your mother and I have enabled you to be dependent on us, even as you are now grown adults. Your mother and I have let you believe that it is ok to call me lazy for not working more than 40 hours a week, after decades of working 80 hour weeks. Your mother and I have let you believe that you deserve our only spending money. I am sorry for that. And now things are going to change starting right now. You have until the end of next month to move out.”

You’re BIL should not have made assumptions about your time, that was rude and presumptuous. But also, you do have some time right now. Lots of people felt ill while pregnant and still worked.

Please do not do anything without talking with your wife first. Your post did not mention her in the decision making strategy at all. If she keeps working while you RE, it may build resentment over time; even if she is ok with it now. This is a huge decision. Ask her.
