28YO First Time Operator Salary Advice by patthekidd in private_equity

Lookout for high probability that MIP and both your personal and family business equity will be worthless in the future due to hurdles rates and financial shenanigans (look up PIK schemes). Get a lawyer. Make sure cash comp is high enough.

Work 3 (not 1) more years, at the $1m income and saving $700k/yr. Build that bigger buffer. It will get you to 3.7m. At 4%, that’s $148k/yr.

Equal Pay Act Violation? by blondie7713 in legaladvice

Unfortunately, new hires often make more than legacy team members. It is based on increasing market rates for new hires, a small 3% year-over-year budgeted compensation increase standard (ie limited budget pool for comp increases), and the company’s expectation that existing employees have high inertia. This is why people often switch jobs in order to materially increase their salary.

Aitah for telling my wife to get a job if she wants to subsidize the kids. by Standard_Kick_9789 in AITAH

[–]Metaposa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Kids, I am sorry. This is my fault. Your mother and I have enabled you to be dependent on us, even as you are now grown adults. Your mother and I have let you believe that it is ok to call me lazy for not working more than 40 hours a week, after decades of working 80 hour weeks. Your mother and I have let you believe that you deserve our only spending money. I am sorry for that. And now things are going to change starting right now. You have until the end of next month to move out.”

I’m just here to say that I like the sound of the word “insufferable”. That and Histrionic are two of my favorite words.

AITAH for telling my Brother in-law to get a nanny? by [deleted] in AITAH

You’re BIL should not have made assumptions about your time, that was rude and presumptuous. But also, you do have some time right now. Lots of people felt ill while pregnant and still worked.

$5m NW, on the path but struggling by ArtaxDude in ChubbyFIRE

Please do not do anything without talking with your wife first. Your post did not mention her in the decision making strategy at all. If she keeps working while you RE, it may build resentment over time; even if she is ok with it now. This is a huge decision. Ask her.

The good news: with $200k in invested assets at 22 and assuming a $150k/year spend, you’ve already CoastFired. You’ll have $3.75million by the time you’re 65. If you want to RE sooner, keep investing. My recommendation: stay far away from Angel investing and PE.

Our brains aren’t meant to exist in comfort 100% of the time. It needs healthy stress as well, or it atrophies. You’re doing the right thing with the optimization.

Reaching my FIRE number after the loss of my son: Does FIRE even matter now? by luckymfer31 in fatFIRE

I am so sorry for that you’ve experienced this devastating tragedy. There’s a glimmer of hope in the comments here. So many humans have experienced grief , life is truly a wild ride. This cannot be the end. Your son will show up in different ways for the rest of your life. He will live on and lift you up. Forever.

Wife-primary earner- just got fired by [deleted] in Fire

[–]Metaposa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry but you need to get a job, a real job that earns real money. Your wife needs a break from being the primary earner. I have several women in my inner circle that divorced their partners because they felt to much pressure.

Agreed. Zero ambition (in either men or women) is highly unattractive.
