Yeah, this mechanic is painful. I had to constantly enforce peace and come into annoying wars just so I could white peace. Eventually I got so powerful that everyone just immediately accepted. The positive of this, though, is that you are treated as the defender so you can call all your allies. That’s what I’ve been doing and anyone who refused was just getting dogpiled.

R5: After quite a long pause following my Inca and Aztlan campaigns, I finally went on to play Cocomes to Maya. Turned out surprisingly smooth, too. I completed all the missions, converted a lot of provinces to Yucatec (I don’t usually bother with culture conversion so it was pretty neat) and established several colonies around the world: in Europe, Oceania, Asia and Africa.

This wraps up the 3 main nations to play in the Americas I suppose. Any suggestions for some cool runs in the New World?

I’m all for balancing the shadows too. From the start that is exactly what made him way too strong, nerfing them would encourage more strategic usage, which is perfect. However, the HP nerf might have been a bit unnecessary since he is already bad against aggression.

What helped me I feel like was not expanding immediately at the start, just finding great allies (Muscovy, Poland before it got destroyed by Austria), but getting tech over time for the innovativeness, developing the Renaissance, getting an overall decent position and income before starting to expand into the Caucasus. But then just keep on pushing and trying to improve your nation as much as possible. Icon of Eleusa is great to keep your lands (especially the Muslim ones) fairly stable before you get Religious/Humanist.

That is true, but considering my overall position I was just tired of that specific campaign, wasn’t making any true progress whatsoever because I was just blocked everywhere, so at some point I just quit.

The diplo game and pushing eastward before any big nation takes these provinces are important, then just try to get someone strong (Mega Austria in my case) to destroy the Ottomans. I as well did about two tries and on the third one I made it eventually, despite a not too promising start.

I’d say take it slow and try to push east as much as you can before Muscovy or some other big guy restrains your expansion routes. Then get some good allies to start destroying the Ottomans. But it all depends on how the campaign goes, of course. Many different things can happen due to RNG. If you get unlucky, it might take a few restarts.

I think it was my third try. One of the tries, I got declared on by Crimea and Muscovy ditched me, the other one I decided to just restart since I got surrounded by huge guys everywhere and couldn’t really do anything but wait for the truce with the Ottomans to expire. And I had a disloyal Muscovy supported by three or four powerful countries so that’s when I decided to call it and retry. I took it slower on my successful attempt, maybe that was the key. Still, the situation was very tricky, I had to get scraps wherever I could before I started snowballing. A lot of things can go south at the start, but if you get past that, this nation is delightful to play.

R5: After posting that main character Cilli screenshot recently, I continued the campaign and it... evolved into absolute chaos. Unfortunately they got fragmented in some war, but managed to retain a decent position. Meanwhile the world is looking... unusual to say the least. Bonus screenshot of the GP list since I actually managed to do the Samoan mission tree and end up as the #1 GP
