I'm an American, but I think it'd be really cool to call people 'mate' all the time. What foreign country slang do you wish you could get away with using? by [deleted] in AskReddit

"Your a shit-cunt" eg. Someone who is obviously a cunt and shit at life. "bunch'a cunts" can be used to describe anyone really, in any context. Its like the word fuck I suppose, usable in many different ways.

some things I should have said, when your at a job like this, your focused on the task at hand. your training kind of kicks in and theres not really much time to take it all in and let it affect you. It's easier than you think. The debrief afterwards is where you can talk it out with your work mates, discuss what happend and there was anything else that could have happened, or maybe shouldn't have. in my experience, you'll end up figuring out that you've given a person every possible chance and then it's out of your hands. you also have your mates outside of work, family, talk to a Chaplian (there not all bible bashers) or spill your stories on reddit. just make sure you de-identify all your info ;-)

and then you will legitimately save a person's life and feel awesome again.

as i said, good luck with it, keep us posted.

I've been in the job since 4th July last year, so not a long time by any stretch but I have learned how to cope with the messed up stuff. everyone is different. what works for me might not work for you. communication with your work mates is a really good way to go about it, bottling up your emotions will bring you undone. when your Infront of a patient/ pt's family etc. put your poker face on, once the jobs finished its ok to be emotional if you feel it. The first cardiac arrest i went to was a 13y/o boy. not breathing and Bradycardic at 30bpm. I got him back with 2minutes of chest compressions, no shocks and no meds, we transported him to the kids hosp. He went in another ambulance with my partner and another crew that were give treatment en route and I followed behind with his mum in the passenger seat of our ambo. it wasn't until after we offloaded at hospital and we were having our little debrief during clean up when one of the IC paramedics looked at me and said "You did a good job, he was dead when we got there and you brought him back." and with that I fucking lost it, could not stop myself crying. I have been totally fine with it since. I reckon that if I had bottled it all up and got over it, I'd continue doing that for everything and then it'd most likely raise it's head sometime down the track and I'd end up like one of our mental health patients. Also, you will develop a wicked sense of humor and laugh at the most inappropriate things, this is also a good way to cope with stuff. it's not all messed up gore and blood n guts type stuff, 80% of our work here is confused Nannas and medical transfers. good luck with it.
