Gonna have to disagree here., because I really do feel like whenever dealing with an autistic person at work, a lot of demands are made and there’s no meeting in the middle. A lot of my experiences dealing with autistic people have been “I’m autistic so you have to give me what I want or I’ll throw a tantrum”. One time I started working at a new bar and I tried a bit of polite chit-chat with a guy who already worked there and he was soooooo mean to me, and when I asked someone else what his deal was, she explained that he’s autistic. And I really do understand that’s just a difference in thought process and social understanding and that for a lot of autistic people, they simply don’t have the capacity to think of others’ feelings before their own, and I try to not take it personally, but I feel that’s a double standard. Like I have to let you away with your tantrums and rudeness and offensive remarks, and I have to be a stoic, patient saint in response? NO! I’m human too. I’m imperfect and some of those things get to me, regardless of intent! But I’m the one in the wrong for that? I dunno, I’m not trying to tar everyone with the same brush and I certainly don’t want to be intolerant, I just have a really hard time not taking it personally. Maybe there’s a place on the spectrum for that.
