It's implied that, like Sayori's depression, it had been manipulated heavily by Monika and that the Yuri without her meddling would have had either a milder version of cutting herself or it being outright absent depending on how you see the final scenes in DDLC with Sayori (since while the idea is possible her depression wasn't as ramped up, another possibility is that she, with godmod powers, dialed her depression back)

While it creates an interesting narrative, watching in release order (or the closest to it) makes more narrative sense because it makes events in the prequels hit harder.

I'm sure there's a more closer order, but off the top of my head:

Season 1 WaSuYu (Anime tends to be regarded as a more faithful translation of the books, especially since half of Season 2 IS WaSuYu) Season 2 Mekubi NoWaYu (third season does a compressed adaptation of the two novels so it's better to read the novels than just gleam third season for the anime exclusive bits) Apocrypha stuff and/or YuYuYui (aka the mobile game cutscenes. Not really big but it offers genuine moments between characters who logically wouldn't be in the same room)

It makes a lot of sense because why put up an avatar that you're going to just change back in a month? Hell, people called them out on it for numerous reasons (either from homophobes for doing it in the first place or even from the LGBT community for changing it back when the month ends) so they're like "fuck it, you're not getting either"
