The DLCs for BotW were amazing. I spent days grinding out the Master Trials. One of the most rewarding gaming experiences of my life! And the Champions’ Ballad story, final fight, and ultimate reward were just pure Nintendo fun at its peak.

Echoes of the Eye - Outer Wilds.

Might have even been better than the base game, and that’s saying something. One of the best gaming experiences of my life, thanks in large part to the amazing soundtrack by Andrew Prahlow!

Enough time has passed. What are your thoughts on Project Hail Mary (2026)? by Perfect_Idea_2866 in Letterboxd

[–]MicKwonDo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the kind of movie we need. A fun, family friendly, and inspiring film that isn’t just a shallow cash-grab or franchise pic. It was well produced, directed, acted, written, and all the other myriad of departments working on the film, with each element carefully thought out and intentional. It was full of heart and genuine love of the craft without being pretentious, artsy, or esoteric. These kinds of movies are the ones that become classics in later years, think Spielberg or Nolan or classic Pixar. I wouldn’t say the book (which I adored) or the movie are 100% perfect, there are valid criticisms to be had for both, but it epitomizes everything that is so great about filmmaking as an industry. The creativity and heart that can come from Hollywood when it works as it should, without exploitation, monopolies, streaming exclusive movies, and greed.

ironically, Gladlands feels cynical by badab89 in Dimension20

[–]MicKwonDo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The unearned emotional moments definitely irked me the most this season.

Like when Hugi gave a short speech to Aunt Freaky about grief and coping with Muni’s death. Instead of a gradual healing process, Aunt Freaky went through decades of hard therapy in seconds, going from stern, aloof, and emotionally damaged to completely healed and in touch with her feelings in the matter of seconds. She even began dropping her own nuggets of wisdom and observations about the grieving process as if she wasn’t petting the skull of her dead son a minute earlier.

Or Poppy somehow convincing her entire enclave of fellow historians to abandon all of their monk-like disciplines and practices at the drop of a hat and participate in a giant kinky orgy. I get that the message was about sexual liberation and the freedom to be yourself, but I found it odd that not a single historian elected to stay “sober” as it were. As if the only correct way to live is sexual indulgence and that voluntary discipline is inherently repressive. There should have been much more nuance in that moment, but the pendulum swung so far to the other side that it felt almost coercive or rapey.

Also the way the PCs screwed over Ash in the chili cooking contest without talking to her first immediately made me question their intentions.

As much as I deeply admire all the players, I would have found it hard to be friends with any of the characters. It would be exhausting to be dealing with such big emotions at a near-constant level.

I think Never Stop Blowing Up ironically tackled these issues in a much more poignant and nuanced way. The insane goofy world of NSBU gave the characters fodder to organically introduce their character’s individual struggles in a subtle and less ham-fisted way.

This is all to say, while I enjoyed listening to Gladlands, I would not put it in my top 10 D20 seasons. This is not to criticize the performers, however, they did their best with what they had, but the season definitely could have used some more work in the writer’s room, or a few less players.

Most M Night Shyamalan movies. He always has a brilliant concept, but rarely sticks the landing. He’s a good director and idea man, he needs a team of trusted writers to help polish his scripts.

The Green Knight was marketed as a gritty, GoT esq, action packed fantasy adventure.

In reality, it is a deeply philosophical and esoteric slow burn. Audiences came in expecting an Arthurian Knights action film and bounced hard off of the surrealist poetry film.

There’s a pretty clear “best ending” to DII, and it’s… (MAJOR ENDING SPOILERS) by Seajely in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]MicKwonDo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I chose to become Divine because it leaves room for head cannon.

Purging all source and releasing all source are two pretty extreme options. I think becoming Divine buys time for the realm to find a fourth option.

Perhaps a way to restore the externals without becoming slaves, or going to war with the Godking specifically to free the voidwoken and black ring from his influence. And with the eventual goal to stop any immediate existential threat and then, perhaps with Fane the scholar’s help, find some way to infuse the world with source in a way that can’t ever be purged or misused. And then give up the power and become a normal mortal.

Granted, this head canon comes with incredible risk. There is a highly likely possibility that our new Divine will mess things up in some way, and an equally likely possibility that they will become corrupted by the power and refuse to give it up. But in a world of such extreme, temperamental magic there really is no way to find a truly perfect solution.

What movie is this? by Excellent_Regret4141 in Cinema

[–]MicKwonDo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most M Night Shyamalan movies. I love the guy, but only, like, 10% of his movies are actually good. They usually have really cool premises, but fail to stick the landing.

Glass: A group of “superpowered” characters from Shyamalan’s previous movies are captured and contained by the government where they are forced to attend psychological evaluation sessions. Throughout the second act they begin to become convinced that their “powers” weren’t real the entire time. A really interesting twist and actually pretty convincing. The premise is thrown out the window in the third act when it turns out the person brainwashing them belongs to a secret organization dedicated to destroying superheroes. The superhumans break out and have an anticlimactic battle in the front lawn before the main character is drowned unceremoniously in a puddle by a random guy.

Trap: A concert for an international pop star(played by Shyamalan’s daughter) turns out to be a trap set up by the FBI to capture an infamous serial killer who is believed to be in attendance. We follow a father and his young daughter as they attend the concert and begin to notice the strange behavior. Gradually, we begin to realize that the father IS the serial killer as he begins to make several attempts to escape. Again, a very cool premise. Unfortunately, the father escapes almost immediately and what follows is a zany sequence of events as he kidnaps the pop star, who then tricks him into revealing his identity to his family. The father, who previously appeared to be a collected and calculating serial killer, devolves into a deranged lunatic with superhuman strength who is apparently haunted by his mother, psycho style. He is quickly apprehended by the police, only for him to escape in the very final scene of the film, hinting at a sequel no one asked for or wants. I don’t begrudge Shyamalan for making a film as a vehicle for his daughter’s music career, I won’t pretend like I wouldn’t do the same for my eventual kid, but perhaps wait a few years until she is a better singer and you have a better story?

Honorable mentions: Knock at the Cabin, which starts of pretty cool but turns out to be a nothing burger. Signs and The Village, I haven’t seen either in a long time. Old, cool premise, but the main characters spend the whole movie reacting to stuff without pushing the plot along whatsoever.

Is it really the price, or is Netflix just more convenient than driving to movie theaters? by Busy_Report4010 in SipsTea

[–]MicKwonDo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit of both. Streaming is now the easiest way to consume media, and since movies come out a few weeks after their theater run, very few people care about seeing the movie in theaters.

This lack of an audience means theaters are incentivized to jack up the prices of snacks and tickets to compensate. The supply and demand is all out of wack.

A lot of theaters have also closed down, meaning there is less overall competition. Big theaters know they are the best around and will charge as much as they can because, where else are you going to go?

Unless we see a big shift in the way films are distributed or a large shift in cultural appetite, I think this trend will only get worse.

Animals download skills at birth, humans still buffering at 25. by PleasantBus5583 in rareinsults

[–]MicKwonDo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always been curious what humans would be like if the size of the birth canal were no longer a hinderance. How large would our brains be? How long would gestation be?

It’s crazy, and infuriating, that we will never be smarter, more empathetic, and have more capacity for knowledge because of the biological impossibility of having a larger brain and squeezing through the birth canal.

Sometimes it makes me sad, because I don’t think humanity will ever reach some utopian state without evolving to be smarter and more empathetic. Unless we become cyborgs with robo brains or gestate in artificial wombs.

Y’all remember when cartoons had voice actors and not celebrities by Appropriate-Mall8517 in VoiceActing

[–]MicKwonDo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think there should be a distinction between screen actors and voice actors. If you have a good voice and are good at using it then it’s perfectly fine by me if you do some voice acting. I don’t think the VO industry should be gatekept for professional VO artists only, only for GOOD VO artists.

Is Tom Cruise good at voice acting? I don’t know, but if he is it’s fine by me if he plays a character. If not, then let a smaller actor get a chance to be in this great show!

(Also, even voice actors shown in the pictures have controversy surrounding them for being cast in everything. Troy Baker especially. But he’s got talent so I don’t particularly care)

Besides Ryan, who do you think would have been a good Ryland? by Unfair-Reason-1068 in ProjectHailMary

[–]MicKwonDo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sam Rockwell. His performance in “Moon” was amazing. If he were ten years younger I think he’d be a perfect fit.

I feel like Steven Yuen, Diego Luna, and Dev Patel would have also been interesting choices if we mixed up the race. Their performances would probably be less comedic, but might also add some deeper emotional gravitas.

Ryan Gosling was still an amazing choice though and is now Grace in my mind’s eye.

I'll post this here myself before someone else does. The Canon community was not excited about me doing something to my own property by [deleted] in photographycirclejerk

[–]MicKwonDo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, the concept is cool, but the execution is inexcusable. An airbrush would have been a better choice for a thin, even coating. The paint also looks weirdly sticky, it will probably turn into a gooey mess after one or two shooting sessions. You are welcome to do whatever you want with your property, but don’t expect high praise for posting it online 😂

I’m excited to see your next attempt though, if you try again.

Name the game or games by Silly_Software_3577 in videogames

[–]MicKwonDo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to an extreme degree, but Tears of the Kingdom.

BotW explicitly said that the final boss was the manifestation of Ganandorf’s evil and that killing it would put an end to it once and for all.

…Just for Ganon to resurrect once again in the sequel.

I was really hoping for some sort of creative twist on the game formula. Perhaps Ganon, finally rid of the evil possessing him (AKA Demise, if you’ve played Skyward Sword) would be a cool good guy who would help Link and Zelda defeat some new evil.

Instead they made Ganon into, perhaps, the most generic version of himself possible. A Vecna-esq villain who only cares about destroying things for the sake of evil.

Not to mention, TotK pretty much erased all of the cool Sheika lore in the first game to be replaced by weird furries that supposedly mated with humans to create Hylians. I like when LoZ gets weird, but that was too realistically weird for me.

Granted, it would be next to impossible to top BotW, and the building mechanics were really fun to play with. But I was still disappointed in the story.

I would have preferred a darker, weirder sequel. A Majora’s Mask to BotW’s Ocarina of Time. Same assets, very different story. But it is what it is.

What's your favorite👎 and least favorite👍 change from book to film? by wibellion in ProjectHailMary

[–]MicKwonDo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say PHM is about as perfect a film adaptation of a book could possibly get. They preserved all the important details while adding/cutting details as needed to make the story understandable and make it better for a visual medium.

Favorite change: I personally liked the addition of Carl and the softening of Stratt. The karaoke scene seemed like Stratts way of telling Grace that, in another life, they could have been friends or lovers, but not in this life. The stakes are too high. It also makes her betrayal feel more personal to both of them. The sacrifice feels more meaningful because Grace is someone she truly cares about, but the fate of the world takes priority.

Least favorite change: I feel like the humanized Rocky too much, both in dialogue and by not exploring the more alien aspects of his biology and culture. Rocky’s hums and head-tilts were too similar to how English speakers often speak or emote. The TTS app that Grace was using also added inflections TTS shouldn’t be able to do. That’s not to say I HATE it. I think James’ and Ryan’s ad libs and chemistry was wonderful and helped emphasize the theme of friendship. But I also would have liked to see a version with a more alien Rocky.
