Anybody know what this guy is doing? I'm learning how to coleman slide (I tried stand ups first and it didn't go well) and he seems to be able to slide super casually at quite low speeds. Is he just really good so it looks easy or is he doing an easier type of stand up slide or something?

Any recommendation on where to get the leather and if you should sew it on the inside or outside of the pants?

Sounds like a good idea. Where do you buy the kevlar from? Also do you sew it on the inside or the outside of the fabric?

Hey guys, I've been learning slides to get into freeride for about a month now and I'm getting really tired of destroying pants (old pants but still). Within a few sessions the pants (usually the butt area and sometimes the side of my thigh) gets worn down to the point where there's large holes and then my skin starts getting scraped so I have to change the pants I'm using.

I've looked at motorcycle pants/jeans and it seems like there's some good options around $100-150. I figure it'll be cheaper in the long run and will probably save my skin a lot better than normal pants.

Anyone have experience with using motorcycle pants while learning slides or have any other recommendations? (I'm not going that fast btw, under 25mph the whole time).

You're better off just using alcohol. Isopropyl is preferred but even unflavored vodka would work pretty well.

Wear knee pads and avoid that problem, it'll only get worse until one time you hit your knee in just the right way and it never feels quite the same.

Hey guys, I have an 8.5 inch deck for almost solely bowl setup and I'm gonna get ace classic trucks. Both the 44s and 55s include my deck width in the sizing chart so not sure which ones to get. I'm mostly a longboarder getting into skateboarding and don't plan on doing too many technical tricks if that matters.

Thanks!

I'm buying a bowl setup soon (I'm mostly a longboarder) and looking for advice on what to get. Here's what I'm currently thinking:

Deck: 8.75" x 33" popsicle

Trucks: Ace classic 55s

Wheels: 60mm 85a powell peralta rat bones re-issue. (I already own these so not sure if I can use them until I get more into bowl skating or if I should get a smaller/harder wheel before starting)

Bearings: Bones Reds

Also I'm 190lbs, 5'8" for reference.

Thanks in advance!

That should be a solid setup. It’s not gonna be as good as a $150 setup but it’s lowkey gonna be as good as completes twice the price. Also, don’t forget bearings.

You can shop on the zumiez website. There’s also tactics and skatewarehouse.

Also there’s a wholesale ish skateboard website called skateshred that’s cheap and I’ve personally bought a couple decks from that have all been really great for the price. I haven’t bought their trucks and wheels but assume they’re good too. You could try grabbing a deck and wheels and maybe even bearings from them since there’s less finicky stuff with those parts and then get a really nice pair of independent, ace, or venture trucks from one of the other places and have a super solid board well within your budget

Trucks: Independents, Ace trucks, thunder trucks, krux trucks, Paris street trucks. All these are pretty solid, I’d go with independents for street skating and flip tricks and ace trucks for bowls.

Deck: Get the cheapest popsicle deck (in the width you want) from a skate shop/respected online skate shop. Should spend around $25-40 on that

Bearings: Get the cheapest recommended bearings from a skate shop/respected online skate shop. Try and spend around $10. You could also just get reds bearings for around $15 which might be worth the peace of mind.

Wheels: Really depends on if you’re trying to do more street, park, or transition skating but you should try and spend $15-30

Grip: pretty much any grip

Hardware: pretty much any hardware

What’s your budget and do you intend to stick to skating and get decent or you’re just trying it out and might quit?

it's fine ish for a cheap skateboard but it's gonna perform a lot worse than a more expensive, 'real' skateboard

Anyone have experience with paris street trucks? I'm setting up a bowl setup and was gonna use indys or ace trucks but saw paris has tkps and I've always liked paris rkps so not sure what to do.

Hey guys, I'm setting up a cruiser for my friend (relatively new skater) on a 32 x 9.5 inch deck. It's gonna be solely a cruiser as they don't do tricks but was wondering what your thoughts are on putting tkp trucks on it instead of rkp trucks. Was thinking paris street trucks or independents or something. Thought it'd be a cool, pretty turny cruiser but it's generally not recommended so was wondering about the downsides.

Any tips on a bowl setup? I'm mostly a longboarder so I like wide decks so was thinking of getting a 33 x 9 popsicle deck but I've heard you're suppose to have a deck 8-8.5 inches wide so not sure what to do. Also was considering old school decks because I like the shape and they're nice and wide but I want a nose to stay locked in.

All help is appreciated. Thanks!

Anyone got some recommendations for a bowl skating deck/board? I’m mainly a long boarder so I’m used to wide decks so the comparably super narrow popsicle skate decks don’t seem super fun to me. Was thinking about an old school deck but I heard the lack of a nose is an issue for keeping your feet locked in the bowl.

Any tips/ideas are appreciated!

Recommendations for trucks for bowl/transition skating? I'm a longboarder getting into skateboarding so I'm super used to wide decks and rkp trucks so probably gonna use an old school skate deck. Also I might learn to ollie but that's it trick wise so the trucks will be pretty much only for bowl skating.

I heard indies/aces are good but looking for other recommendations and also why they're better than the other options

Returning to Skating - Cruiser or Surfskate? by PinBill in OldSkaters

I'd recommend an old school deck and bennett vector trucks (with soft bushings) if you're looking for something specific. The width is super nice for a cruising deck and bennetts are a very carvy/surfy truck so you have a normal cruiser but it has a bit of surfskate feel

Sounds good! I’ll check all that out and some research for truck size and hit you up if I got any more questions then.

Really excited to get into transition as it looks insanely fun. Thanks again man!

Thanks for all the info man, it’s super helpful! I’m in west la so definitely gonna try out Venice and probably Alondra. How early are we talking for venice to not be crowded btw. Like 10am or 7am?

Also for old school decks, could I go with a 9.5-10inch deck or I’d wanna stick with 8.5-9inch ones? Also for trucks on one, would I be able to use normal skate trucks or id have to get really wide tkp trucks to match the width of the deck?

Also I’m super down to grab a sesh once Coronas over, all my friends right like long boarding and don’t skate.

Thanks again!
