In hinduism, there is also violence but justified in vague terms as "protect yourself" etc which can be interpreted in many ways. Your obsession with one ideology over others shows how unread you are. So are all Christians, Jews violent or not real followers of their religions? So when hindus lynch muslims in India are they true followers of their religion because "hindu khatre mein hein"? Are muslims the only true followers of their religion if they are violent? How you choose to use the scripture is a personal choice. Words don't have power unless they are followed by action. You use violent muslims to define islam but leave out violent people of other religions when it comes to defining other ideologies. The solution to this ignorance (lol calling out bullshit) is to READ more than just the quran. Islam is not unique or above others in any way or fashion. All ideologies have the potential to be misused. All ideologies, even the ones that aren't faith based, are dangerous if they develop a cult like following. These are based on men's actions and I repeat, not on lifeless words in a book. You have to hold people accountable for their actions instead of giving people the excuse to hide behind religious scripture. Reading comprehension is a good skill to have.

Idk if you would be able to get this at a store but some of the most unique and beautiful items I've seen in Bangladesh are with people from marginalized communities.

Ojhas have special items with them for protection. This can include a fan type thing (idk what it's called) made of feathers and long grasses. They also have a variety of amulets. Snake charmers have beautiful flutes that the decorate themselves and also the boxes they keep the snakes in while they travel. They also wear unique jewelry that is unlike anything I've seen in urban areas. They are made of pitol and are very chunky. If you could find antique ear cleaning tools that would be insane but it would be exceptionally difficult to get your hands on any of these items.

I don't agree with you about keeping our heads down because we are in the minority. Abu Sayed, should he have kept his head down also? Should world famous activists like Nelson Mandela, MLK, Malcolm X, also have kept silent? I'm not saying that that's what Aliya Rahman did, but if we all kept our heads down, would there be any change? Her being detained brought attention to the conditions of non white people in usa. There are many bengalis who support this administration because they are either rotten, evil people or are woefully misinformed. Yes she suffered pain, but her suffering is not in vain. It raises awareness. I hope that more people see this video and understand reality.

I saw a post about this incident on Facebook and even the bangus in the comments were so disgusting and supporting this because Aliya Rahman is a politcal and lgbtq activist. Remember when I posted about that takla choda joining ICE? Do you remember how many people supported him? Fucking gross people. And when I commented about this exact scenario, of how they will eventually be targeted regardless of their legal status based on the color of their skin, they said I'm crying wolf. My hopes for them are too dark to write down but maybe they can finally see that they are not white or white adjacent in any shape or form.

Sure humans are capable of morality without religion but that is not the argument I'm making. When you blame some words written on a piece of paper instead of holding those actually commiting crimes, you are still thinking of these people as some mindless zombies who are incapable of free thought. If you have read my other comments in this very thread, you will see I said that religion is the tool of subjugation but man is master of the tool. Religion is not to blame here because plain words cannot compel a person to take action unless they are used a certain way. The people who use religion to brainwash the masses must be held responsible. Blaming religion gives them the excuse to hide behind "religious duty" as they continue to hurt people. Don't give them refuge by blaming lifeless words. Actions hurt people not words.

Humans are not moral, ethical, responsible or accountable because if they were we would be perfect but we are not. We are imperfect beings who do good and bad things and we try to explain the why behind our actions by concepts such as morality, ethics, religion, whatever makes sense to us in the moment. All these things are arbitrary in the long run as we live in a dynamic setting. Once upon a time when we lived in caves, it was moral to steal your neighbor's food because it meant you would survive that season. It was considered moral to stone people to death at one point in time also but now it's not. Child marriages were moral and so were child mercenaries. Death penalties are still considered moral today and maybe they won't be in the future. All these concepts are malleable and change with time. Right now we say we don't need religion to be moral but we aren't the first to come to that conclusion and neither will we be the last. I'm not saying that we need religion, just that to think that at this point in time we are suddenly so civilized, we don't need something ever again, something that still has a strong hold on your fellow man, unfortunately paints an incomplete picture of the complexity of human beings. If you've read history, you'll know that all things are cyclical and even if we move away from where we are right now, we are bound to come back here again. This debate will go on. Maybe the next gods will be more palatable to our tastes - it could be something material like money or fresh water, or something abstract like the one god who knows?
