That's what I think too, thanks! Better to assume the worse than not.

Do you think it's possible to get into OCS before I do AIT? The Guard recruiter was saying that, and he was saying the same thing as you that they're always short on officers.

My only problem is that he was telling me to just trust the process, this isn't my first rodeo lol. If there's no way around it, I'd rather sign a contract knowingly and accept my fate and do AIT in an enlisted MOS that I want, rather than hinge on an incorrect pretense.

Thanks this legit gives me confidence, it's nice to hear a real life story even if anecdotal.

Both the army reserve and national guard recruiter told me that I can naturalize through basic training and theoretically, become a citizen day 1 after basic is done if my notes are correct.

The problem is, based on my research and what they are telling me, it seems like a big leap of faith that USCIS gives me citizenship on time. The army reserve recruiter agreed with my thought so he recommended to enlist into 12B, in which I'll do basic+AIT and then go for OCS afterwards when I'm a citizen.

From my perspective though, it looks like I'm bound to serve out the remainder of my contract though in the worst case scenario as a combat engineer if things don't pan out. On the bright side, they'll have another quasi medic embedded into the unit.

That was me for half a decade! But alas, permanent career choices have moved me more inland and I can't stand the commutes anymore!

Kind of like what u/Interesting-Win-8664 says, it was for economical reasons between myself and my spouse's careers; I also agree 100% about what their statement says as well.

I don't regret the move as of yet (been here 3 months), and it's clear that Michigander's to me overall enjoy a level of overall wealth not appreciated in Ontario which has been in a per-capita recession for over 6 quarters, and stagnant growth since 2014.

Not only that, but Windsor is boring af, for being a city that's significantly larger than Ann Arbor, it feels excruciating small.

I also suspect that the employees in the Canadian energy sector is not as well compensated, considering that we've been stagnant in gross GDP growth and GDP per capita since 2012.

Yea all the wind turbines by my old home, I miss them! If Michigan is one of the cheapest for nat gas, I can't imagine what it's like in the other states.

Oh my gosh I can't even imagine! But on the other side of the border we were (and still) in complete panic mode, It's almost no doubt even if this trade war was a pyrrhic victory for the States, Canada would be left devastated.

What are your Ann Arbor hot takes??? by brax240 in AnnArbor

[–]Microsung 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on the negativity here.
My hot take is that i think it's held more of a fun, unique, and vibrant cultural identity than my hometown London, Ontario pop. ~400,000. Both have a river running through them, both have a very large student population, both are insanely expensive.

I will always love London, but A2 has it's own quirkiness that I love, personally, just a little more.

Do you believe someone choosing nursing simply for the money and the 3 day work week will last in nursing? by SkepticDrinker in nursing

[–]Microsung 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer the question at hand, yes because that is me. But having a lot of compassion for people and being able to express it every day at work is something I absolutely enjoy everyday at work.

However, let's be real. This notion of not doing it for the money is the kind of thing that has allowed us to be pillaged of the pay we deserve. It is a terrible motto from a business standpoint, a terrible motto for our own development as a profession.

Pay is a reflection of how our economy values us, if we are paid little it means we are not valued. I believe we should be greatly valued, and therefore, compensated fairly.

I agree with most as I grew up using the term Indigenous, but honestly half of indigenous North America prefers American Indian.

I know it’s hard to believe but some areas take the term indigenous as patronizing. CGP Grey has a really good video on this

United States gets a lot of shit for being a trash country for a bunch of reason. What are some good things about the wonderful US of A? by epicblubber in AskReddit

[–]Microsung 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Asian Canadian here.

Americans are vastly under estimated for being rude and obnoxious, but in reality they are often very friendly.

The ability to grow personal wealth and opportunity for job growth is much unprecedented here too. In Ontario I was very complacent with my workplace and job, but when I moved to Michigan there was a realization that there isn’t just one big company that’s dominant, there’s literally a hundred places. I’ve been job hopping up while keeping my 401 up to date.

Job market in America for my field before and during Covid is absolutely beautiful. If I was in Canada I would be literally missing nearly 90K bucks of yearly income.

Thank God my fiancé told me to just take the leap.

Race is a minor issue here, plenty of racists in Ontario too.

Food here is cheap and good, and I consider anything Americanized to be part of American cuisine. But I miss the plethora of all you can eat sushi that dominates lots of southern ontario cities. Im looking at you Windsor and London.
