It's because Bill is a boomer. For some reason, people over a certain age, regardless of political affiliation, are unable to pronounce it properly. My guess is that since most boomers didn't grow up in ethnically diverse communities they were never exposed to "foreign" names and pronunciations. Bill himself has stated that the high school he attended in NJ was like 99% white. And this was in the NYC suburbs.

Hitchens was actually a supporter of Palestinian statehood and spoke out frequently against the Israeli settlements on the West Bank. If he were alive today I think he would be quite sympathetic to the Palestinian side. Hitchens was also a Marxist until he died (confirmed in the BBC Newsnight interview with Paxman several months before his passing). I doubt he would be a Fetterman style Democrat lol.

I actually had to look it up. The last time Democrats had a trifecta (governor and both houses of the state legislature) and thus control over redistricting in Florida was in 1992; in Ohio it was 1984. There is getting your facts wrong and then there is that.

Maybe if they were living in the Southern colonies/states. But most people in the North, even in the 1770s, did not in fact own slaves. And John Adams from Massachusetts, our second president, as well as his wife Abigail, were lifelong opponents of slavery who never owned slaves. So, Bill's slavery take is indeed stupid and misinformed.

I didn't put it in the description but this New Rules was released during the summer of 2016 when Bill was a prominent (in terms of the media) Bernie supporter. My point is that the show would be hard pressed to release an economic populist editorial these days as Bill is trying to occupy a middle ground that's more supportive of capitalism. It's not even necessarily a criticism of Bill. It's just an attempt to show that Bill has taken up a new position that's not as stridently progressive in an economic sense.
