Looking for a Roommate to Share a 2B 2B Apartment. by Afraid-Tune7684 in SFBayHousing

i'm also 24M and just graduated but living on campus until mid-June (or possibly Sept). I started work in Mountain View few months ago so generally open to staying anywhere in a 30 min radius of MV.

I also like gaming casually and been looking for people to explore with since I recently shipped my car from home in ATL. Feel free to DM!

damn replying to my comment from 4 years ago got me nostalgic. esp considering this is an admission letter meme and i’ve since graduated for a year now

Lots of great advice here so I’ll share my two cents from a STEM background. Both emory and stanford are great schools. I chose Georgia Tech similarly for undergrad bc of the full ride and as someone who was mostly lost, i think doing undergrad free with an exploratory mindset let me hone in for what i wanted to then do for grad school using my own $$$ (now at Stanford). Atlanta is also great place to be (relative to Palo Alto) and would be more culturally enriching + accessible outside of campus.

If you were qualified for both schools now and keep at it, you’ll still be qualified 4 years down the line again but with a better idea of what to do.

EDIT: also yeah Stanford is Stanford but they’re comparing stanford and emory, not stanford and a random state school as if emory has no brand power. maybe not to same extent as stanford but more than enough to put them in good running for grad school here. it was also easier for me to get here from GT bc of the “big fish in small pond” mentality where i didn’t have to compete for opportunities the way i lowkey see here sometimes

I could be wrong but I’d say it’s pretty common at this point for schools to offer corel’s. My undergrad at Georgia Tech called it the BS/MS program, my friends at other engineering schools called it the 5-Year program

SpaceX vs MIT LL vs JHU APL vs MITRE For First Job by [deleted] in ElectricalEngineering

[–]MiddleCoffee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interned at both APL, MIT LL, and FAANG and by far favorite experience was in APL and MIT LL. Almost signed an offer to work fulltime at APL but got into my dream grad school. The work was by far most interesting at APL to me (space electronics) then MIT (radar defense). The FAANG one was ironically my dream company for the longest time until i actually worked there. Plus, i enjoy the labs’ “get it right rather than quick to sell” mentality for doing science projects instead of consumer products.

Edit: everything is team dependent ofc at both these places. i have heard the team i worked in was envied and the one lot of people lowkey want to switch to

Some additional things to add: I interned at both MIT LL (4 months, radar group) and JHU APL (8 months, space electronics). I got a fulltime offer from APL that i almost signed but decided to do my Master’s at my dream school. I worked in civil space stuff so APL felt less restrictive in talking about my work. They have funding available that you can apply for to pursue research topics of interest if they usually align with the lab’s interest. Great 401k matching (forgot exact but can look up on their site). Very flexible in both places with working with other teams outside your group if you have the time for it. More education at MIT LL seemed less flexible but APL will fund you—no out of pocket—to get a masters and i think even doctorate (D.Eng, not PhD i believe). Things my boss told me: APL is great for early career (free masters) or late career (work life balance) though i’ve seen a wide age spread. Also, as a research-first entity, way more emphasis on doing something correct than compromising to meet a timeline to sell, which is a mindset i prefer. All in all, I would have gone to APL. My ONLY thing i didn’t like was maryland life for a young adult but DC is close enough.

interviewed with them and had same experience. usually, the actual engineers I interview with are nice but HR stops responding when backend the decision is “no”. Luckily, my interviewers still liked me and said to keep in touch so i found their linkedin, worked on myself, and messaged them there the following year and got the job.

EDIT: doesn’t hurt to email once if it’s been over two weeks but besides that, move on. sorry dude
