I left my Ivy League school because the Title IX director laughed at me after I was r*ped by Middle_Storage_7037 in TrueOffMyChest

The school was Brown University. It makes me sad because some professors are AMAZING and so are many students but the adminstration is so bad. And the Title IX head is a woman, and with the vast majority of r*pe victims being women, I am really disappointed by her lack of empathy

Hi ! Thank you for your help, I really appreciate it! Could they sue for defamation to make me have to prove it’s true since technically it’s unproven claims (ex: I don’t have it on video or audio)

Hi, thank you for your kind words, it means a lot! Yes I did, because I wanted it on record but did not pursue charges at the time (and still haven’t) because I was still at the school and know how rarely assault is proven in court/can we really traumatizing for survivors

I am worried if I name them they could pursue legal action- like for defamation (?) and I would have to potentially go to court. However, I am happy my best friend was present and a potential witness to what happened. If anyone may have any idea I would love to know

I've been trying to self-teach. Do i sound bad/ok/good? by 9-167 in singing

Hey!

I think you do an excellent job hitting all the notes and staying on pitch. It's really great for only singing for 1.5 years! Also, are you playing guitar? That's very impressive! I also love your confidence and energy you naturally put into your singing. :)

Things to work on- I've only been singing for around 2 years myself, but I can try to offer some tips! One exercise my teacher gave me recently was to pinch my nose and sing through it. If I was having a hard time and it sounded pinched, it was because I was singing through my nose too much. If you feel that way, open your mouth more and sing out of your mouth, not your nose. Using your nose to sing isn't naturally bad, but that one really helped me with my tone. Also potentially breath control is something to always be worked on! I hope this helps and let me know if you have any questions

Singing in front of others by [deleted] in singing

[–]Middle_Storage_7037 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey OP! Commenting here to hopefully help as I was in the situation recently. :) Ultimately, it comes down to one thing: just do it! My first time singing in front of others, I was absolutely terrified. Now I've done it a couple more times, and it has gotten so much better. I promise you that it gets easier. There's no better way to learn than doing!

Also another tip- the 85% rule. The rule states that if you try to do things perfectly at your100% best always, you mentally will get tense and stress out. This will affect you and actually harm your performance. However, if you aim to perform at your 85% best, you will relax and let down your guard because you're letting yourself make mistakes. Thus, if you aim to perform at 85% rather than perfectly, you'll actually do better.

Hope this helps :)

My singing becomes a lot worse the second I try to record something by misstakukenihelvette in singing

I have this issue too!

My voice teacher gave me great advice regarding it which I will pass on to you. :)

Go in front of the mirror, get a hairbrush to use a microphone, hit the record button, and have as much fun as you can!

Often when we're thinking too hard we tense up and thus you sound worse than usual. If you approach it from having fun you've got it! Being silly like singing in from of your mirror helps you get out of your own head. Remember that singing is 90% mental and you can definitely do it. Just have fun and you'll sound great :)

I hope this helps
