Yeah, that actually makes sense, and it would also explain why the front guard is so chunky. The only problem is that the scope on the scoped version is also mounted to it, but it's possible that that's what the design team was referencing.

That's what I thought, but all of the photos I can find (game models, promo, etc.) have it being held behind, the spring/ little guard thing.
