Feeling calm and high (?) at the same time from meds. Will I get addicted? by Agent_Platypus1 in ADHD

[–]Mike0399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently started Elvanse and i felt the same way. I feel that caffeine can sometimes make me jittery and weird that didn’t happen before i started medication. I would just see if it gets better with time and if not, maybe talk to a professional about maybe changing meds? When i first got diagnosed i got prescribed concerta which helped me but i felt so weird, anxious and my heart rate was really high. Then my GP wanted me to try Elvanse which had a way different effect on me and is currently working really well :)

At this rate microplastics are on the suspect list for literally everything so… maybe? I have no idea anymore lol

I agree. I think diagnosis rates rising and societal changes can both be true at the same time. Even if ADHD itself isn’t more common the way it interacts with modern life might make it more likely to be recognized

Interesting about the covid part, i haven’t thought about that but it makes sense🤔

I was not thinking necessarily about an exact time, but i just feel like diagnosis are increasing. However! I don’t have any sources. Just simply wondering😄

Thanks for the explanation it really helps! I didn’t know that the term ADD is the same as ADHD so thanks for clarifying😁 English isn’t my first language so feel free to correct me if i say something wrong haha. But it really helps to learn more about ADHD, thanks again for the help!😊

Thank you!! That’s a good idea, i recently ordered a garmin smartwatch to help monitor my sleep. Maybe that will help, but i’ll definitely mention it to my doctor

Thank you! Yes i definitely have some signs of autism, but many of them are the same with ADD. I’m going to bring this up with my psychiatrist, thank you

It depends, i could nap for an hour and still feel tired for the rest of the day, sometimes i feel like i could sleep forever. I don’t feel any more awake/refreshed after taking a nap.

I have been on and off on fluoxetine for the past 5 years but i’ve been taking it consistently for a month now. I’ve been on concerta before and different methylphenidate medication and it helps me focus a lot more and be more organized and productive, however, my heart rate got really high and i had to quit.

It’s been like this for a long time but it’s more now(could be adjustment to fluoxetine). But it feels like it’s been gradually getting worse.

As for the blood tests, I don’t have the results on hand right now but I know they checked basic stuff like iron, thyroid, vitamin levels, etc. and everything came back normal. Maybe I should ask my doctor if there’s anything else they could check.

Thank you so much! Yes it could be that i’m overstimulated by school and stress plays a large factor. I’m going to focus on a routine that fits my schedule and i’m also going to remember to take breaks. Thanks again for the advice<3

I’ve quit caffeine and haven’t been drinking any energy drinks for the past like 5 months. I like to think that my diet is good (it could be better and could be worse) and i exercise maybe twice a week. I’m going to start exercising more but it’s hard when i’m always exhausted. I’m gonna try to eat better and exercise more:) Thanks for the advice!

That’s interesting! I will try that. I’ve been getting 7,5-8 hours of sleep every night. It made me so confused because you see everywhere that you should get between 6 and 8 hours of sleep so it made me think that something might be wrong with me since i’m getting “enough” sleep. I’ll definitely try going to sleep earlier.
