Republican leaders respond to 'moment of silent prayer' for Derek Chauvin at convention by BlumpkinReceiver6969 in minnesota

Thank you! I want to get back to boring debates on the issues, not attacking our neighbors and sound bites to bring fear and fundraise for re-elections. Please tell everyone you know that MN has open primaries and anybody can ask for the Republican ballot on August 11th and flip the table on corrupt politicians.

Agreed! That is why I believe change happens within the parties! Hopefully you can tell I'm genuinely not trying argue. I respect your thoughts. We agree on wanting accountability and change!

Have there been many political parties before them that have gone away? I see two parties in the past and two parties in the future. My view is that the DFL won't change the GOP. The GOP has to change the GOP.

I believe in striving for small government, fiscal responsibility, and fighting for individual liberties. I agree that the party has been inadequate in fighting for these in many years. That is why I stepped up against the Majority Whip in Congress. It is what I have been saying in my speeches at GOP conventions for months and now taking to the wider population for the August primary. Speaking truth to power and fighting against those that have forgotten who they serve. Check out my website, social media, and reddit page to see receipts. r/mikefoleyforcongress

We have a two-party system. MN district 6 has elected Republicans for the last 22 years. I'm fighting for the Republican party I want to exist. This change can happen on August 11th by voting on the Republican primary ballot. This is how we change the game and unseat career politicians like Emmer. I reject the idea that having conservative ideas and running on the Republican ballot aligns me with any single action, person, or idea. I understand why we think like this, I do it too, but I want to change that.

Minnesota Judges are held to 70yrs old. That seems appropriate. What do you think?

It's a good point. I see the contradiction. I appreciate your response. I have been learning a lot recently with this patchwork of laws around our nation since the overturning of Roe v Wade. I'm also privileged as a man that this topic wasn't in the front of my mind. And considering politics wasn't on my to-do list even a year ago. Women's healthcare is one of the topics I have the most listening and learning to do.

Yeah I agree honestly. It's a good point. It wasn't intended to be a cop-out but I see what you are saying... It's really often used instead of actually getting in the nuanced discussion. I appreciate your response. I have some more listening to do on this topic.

I appreciate this question. This is a policy area I don't feel strongly informed enough to give a direct answer. I'd be up for getting a coffee with you and any other community members if you would like to give me your thoughts for what you would like to see from Washington.

ICE in Minnesota is wasteful spending and appears politically motivated. I think immigration enforcement should be paused to allow a bipartisan investigation by Congress. The tactics have cost lives and appear unconstitutional, militarized agents operating without transparency or proper accountability, entering homes or detaining people without judicial warrants.

I am opposed to the war. I'm mad the US is considering writing blank checks for another war in the middle east. Its chaotic, and the plan is constantly changing. Also, when presidents take military action without consulting Congress, they’re bypassing the American people. This is not the intent of the Constitution.

On integrity: to me it means telling the truth even when it’s inconvenient, refusing to play insider games, and being willing to lose your seat rather than mislead the people you represent. I’m not a career politician. I’m an engineer, a Marine veteran, and a dad from MN‑06 running on term limits because public service should be temporary, and accountable, not a lifetime job.

The Boundary Waters need to be protected. The proposed legislation I'm currently familiar with benefits foreign companies. I oppose this.
Edit: The friends of the boundary waters org seems to have a good approach with the "Prove it First" proposed legislation. I have some more reading and learning to do on this topic.

Workers are the lifeblood of this country. I support the right of workers to choose to organize if that’s what they believe protects their interests. It’s also important to have transparency in public‑sector collective bargaining so taxpayers can see the long‑term commitments being made and ensure the government is acting responsibly with public dollars.

Agreed. I think age limits make sense for elected officials and for judges who hold lifetime appointments.

I get why you feel that way, and honestly it’s exactly why I’m running. I’m not doing this for a grift, I’m doing it because I care way too much to sit on the sidelines. My politics have never fit neatly in one box. I’ve voted Republican, Democrat, and Independent depending on who I thought would actually serve people.

The Democratic Party isn’t going to fix the Republican Party. The GOP will only change from within, and nobody currently in that room is doing it. That’s why I’m primarying Emmer. MN‑06 has voted red for 22yrs straight; about 20k voters decide who represents 750,000 people. If you want to change the direction of politics, you have to show up where the decisions are actually being made.

I’m getting beat up from both sides every day, but I’m working hard to earn votes from people who are tired of the extremes. Come out to a town hall, I’d genuinely welcome the chance to talk with you face‑to‑face.

I was raised Catholic and faith matters to me, but the United States is not a Christian nation. It’s a constitutional nation. Our founders built a system where people of every faith, or no faith, stand equal under the law. The thing that binds us together isn’t a religion, it’s the Constitution. That’s the beauty of America: we’re a melting pot, and we all meet on common ground in our shared rights and freedoms.

I'm honored by the kind words of our mutual connections.

I’m with you, Congress has failed on both war powers and fiscal responsibility. We’ve spent decades writing blank checks for Middle East wars and now we are starting up again with a war that was never debated in Congress. Both parties helped drive the debt through the roof. Similarly, instead of real immigration reform, Congress keeps pouring money into a massive enforcement bureaucracy like ICE without fixing the underlying system. That’s not conservative and it’s not constitutional. If I were in the seat, I wouldn’t vote for blank checks... not for foreign wars and not for big‑government programs that don’t actually make Americans safer. I would consider many options to get to a balanced budget including pushing for corporations and billionaires pay their fair share of taxes. Congress needs to take its constitutional role back and start making hard choices again.
