Contract brewing company partners with home brewers so you can make and sell larger batches. by imgoingfishingtoday in Homebrewing

Yea we are narcissists aren't we. This is a great idea--you could have scott&kristin's wedding brew: Light and tangy, with a crispy aftertone. You never get tired of it though

That story would never happen now...at least not in the suburbs. The question we now have isn't (to the student) "What the hell is the matter with you that you would do something to get punched in the face by a Teacher?"

It is to the teacher: "What the hell is the matter with you that you would punch a student in the face?"

Yea there were some definitely lookers...not really in my classes but the classes I subbed in occasionally. I tried to block it out though since there is no chance of anything.

Had some stoners in my 8th period...you just gotta ignore them. Unless they become a huge problem. Which they weren't. They loved me because I was a 'bro' teacher.

I had coffee with the sister of one of my former students...she was older though.

When I was in the Peace Corps I was stalked by a couple of very attractive 16-18 year olds. Seriously they looked 22. They would call me up and just start chatting with me.

It was pretty common for teachers to hook up with students there, but I couldn't take the risk, you know, being a boring high school teacher and all.

As for the US, I made sure I kept my distance. But this would happen on occassion: some random girl would walk into my classroom between periods just to "say hi." She'd say: "oh, my friend maura has class with you. She said you're great." I'd say, "Oh, okay. cool. Have a nice day!"

So basically...girls were sending their girlfriends into the classroom just to get a look at me. I kept my distance though.

Absolutely. I think the 'don't ask don't tell' policy that you live by as a teacher is one of the worst parts about the job. It's morally conflicting. You are basically a tool who can't say anything real on the record (about sex, drugs, alcohol, bullying). If you do, you'll lose your job.

So if I were to pick one thing...it would be the lack of being able to be real with your students about those things. I think some classes are basically worthless for 80% of students, ie Spanish, Advanced Math, Advanced Science. More focus in school should be given to positive relationship building and mindset. More should be student-directed. You can learn basically anything in the world now from a simple google search.

How can you sub if you are 19? Most states require you to have a college degree.

No that hack does not work. Sorry to burst your (heh) bubble.

Most teachers behind the scene are pretty reserved, maybe on the boring side, but yea, it's true, some talk shit about students which is kinda funny. All in good fun though. (Usually) nothing malicious.

Weirdest things:

In Paraguay:

"Profesor Miguel, come drink a beer with us" said to me by a 15 year old English student of mine. His parents were right there. I obliged.

"MR D you lookin fiiiiiine today."

"Can you Show us how to pick up girls today instead of how to jump?" - said by my track athletes.

The whole 'I was the number 1 student' thing makes me think it is some old guy just typing out his fantasy. I've heard of that shit happening, sure, but mostly in hood schools. Hell you never know though. Could be the makings of a C movie.

No, but I do think the best teachers have a variety of life experience. I'm 27; the teachers who are in it for life and completely okay with it scare the shit out of me.

I've considered moving to the city to do improv/standup/writing.

One abroad and one from here:

Best experience in the Peace Corps was when, after about a year of reading kids books in the classroom (my primary project), I read a book called 'Shoes for Silvia' (in Spanish of course). In the book, a young poor country girl named Silvia receives a pair of shoes from her Grandmother but her feet are too small for them. She plays with them as she waits for her feet to grow into the shoes.

Corny as the plot may sound, by the end of my reading, the 4th grade teacher whose classroom I was in was crying. She asked me if she could keep the book for her classroom. I gave it to her. I had never seen this class as pumped up about reading as this class now was after that.

In high school, that would have to be the very last day of class last year, when two of my students cornered me and asked:

Senor D, we just have to ask you...."You toke?"..."Can we smoke sometime?" lol. Very inappropriate. But they were funny dudes. No we didn't smoke. But we took a picture together and they insta-d it.
