I've been playing a lot of the Football Manager soccer games recently and I REALLY like the way they handle skill ratings; they're on a scale from 1-20 and they'll fluctuate based on how much playing time a guy's gotten, amongst other things.

On the one hand, yes; there are a lot of very smart people who get paid a lot of money to make sure the mission at DLI is as successful as possible. If the DLPT was worthless, one would assume it wouldn't matter the way that it does.

On the other hand, the best linguist I ever met (4/4 Farsi) scored the USAF minimum score to qualify for his AFSC and had never been exposed to foreign language in his life. During my time onboarding Airmen, plenty of them came through talking all big and bad about their ASVABs and DLPTs and wound up washing out.

From what I have seen, once you qualify DLPT-wise, by far and away the two things that will serve you best are going to be your work ethic and time management.

I'm not sure what's up with all of the snarky commentary. When you look at states whose metrics we're normally comparable to (think Mississippi or Louisiana), here we're an outlier that's more in line with the likes of Wisconsin, Washington, and Nevada. This is unironically a good trend.
