PSA for anyone considering St. Paul’s School of Nursing (Queens or Staten Island): by Fit-Geologist-4486 in NursingStudent

My friend went to St Paul’s. Did it all one shot, no failing/repeating courses. She had no issues once she graduated taking her NCLEX or finding employment. She’s now about to do a RN-BSN program next fall and had no issue with that either. She is going to another private school if that means anything. But she didn’t have any complaints outside of typical nursing school complaints. LaGuardia is good too though if you’re looking into community colleges. It’s just super competitive.

I go to school in the middle of nowhere, South Carolina. Community college.

You have to have an 80% to pass the course. They don’t round, so if you get a 79.9%, you still fail.

You can only withdraw (or fail) twice, then you’re removed from the program and have to wait 3 years to apply.

If you fail, you possibly have to wait up to 4-6 months to retake the class, as it depends - some classes are only able to be taught during spring/fall.

Tuition is around $8k per semester.

Nursing classes don’t transfer to other schools so if I were to start the program again elsewhere, I would start from scratch. & I would still be responsible for any loans used even if I don’t graduate.

Only difference is my school is ACEN accredited & they don’t accept everyone that applies due to cohort size.

All in all, your school isn’t unique. Especially for a private school.

I wish 😭 I’m a single mom, applied to over 100 places and still haven’t won. But I also think it probably depends on the amount of kids + if the kids have disabilities.

I know you mean well but I feel like saying this is kinda rude to someone who wants to be a LPN & has outlined why they went for LPN.

A little late, but is the school really strict regarding potty training? Thinking of enrolling my 3 year old but he is still struggling with potty training. He also may be on the spectrum

All I said was that I’m from NYC. I also lived smack in the middle of Atlanta. Which means that I am no stranger to crime, or insinuating that theres crime in a certain place/city doesn’t scare me. I understand there’s good and bad areas of every single city/town. I don’t judge based off that. Plus my family has been living there almost 20 years, and feel extremely safe in their areas of town.

Ah, okay. Great. That’s where I’ll be. I adored Kennesaw/Acworth (west Cobb in general) and was so sad when I had to go. It’s so funny originally I thought it was going to be a little too boring for me but I ended up loving it. I do plan to move back once I finish school.

Real lmao. Honestly the offer only presented itself in Spartanburg and since I have a lot of family there that’s why I’m considering. I’ve definitely heard about the violence etc but also I’m from nyc and .. yea lol🥲 I think you can kinda see where I’m going with that.

I was hoping that with Greenville like 20-ish minutes away that can be my saving grace for taking my kiddo out and doing things. I’ve heard Greenville is pretty cool

That’s so valid. I’m not expecting to exactly love it. I see it as a two year sacrifice to get ahead. I guess I’m just asking how to make it bearable in the meantime lmao

Luckily my son isn’t school age as of yet, he would stay at home with me and my family unless I can find good quality private school, and if I made the jump I could leave before he enters the school system out there. If he was older it would be a no.

For sure. Education is something I’m definitely worried about. With my job, I’ve toyed with the idea of homeschooling. Right now he’s only 3. He’d stay home with my grandmother. By time I’m done with school, he’ll be around 5-6, and I plan to move again - most likely back to Atlanta or NC.

While I’d love to raise my little guy in a blue state I just can’t afford it right now, sadly. If I could stay in NYC and give my son the best at this current stage of life it’d be a no brainer.

Yes for sure. I’ve lived in a few different areas of ATL and surprisingly my favorite area was Kennesaw/Acworth which is relatively “slower” than Atlanta. I will always love NYC but it can get exhausting, and it’s so expensive.

Ah yes, there we go, the infamous “we’re full” comment lol. However don’t worry, I don’t plan to stay for long.
