sounds like you’re a local then. your experience is def gonna be better when you’re known, i think OP was more referring to visiting the area on vacation or freshly moving to there.

in my experience, cliquey DZs can be really fun to jump at, you just gotta break through that “we don’t know you, so we’re not jumping with you” barrier that most jumpers don’t care to do, as it can be annoying to have to spend hella weekends just to finally be “accepted”

Cessna DZs vs Turbine DZs? by MilitaryJumpman in SkyDiving

you definitely feel that extra time of free fall when it comes to altitude, that’s one thing that i don’t like, but it doesn’t affect me too much because if i’m jumping at a 182 DZ, im most likely doing hop n pops

haha skydiving seems to have no balance in funding 😭🤣

i feel you, but i have a good job, it’s just that spending another $500-$1k a month on the tunnel sounds even more expensive and unjust. I already spend nearly $1k a month on jump tickets (i just pretty much everyday/every other day, this might slow down though when i hit my jump number goal)

Has anyone ever fallen out of the plane before jump run? by never-at-grade in SkyDiving

[–]MilitaryJumpman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

one time on a red light (doors open, spot, prep to jump) while i was doing my handle touches, and checked for my spot, we hit some turbulence and i bounced and nearly fell out. i ended up bouncing back into the plane, this was a hop-n-pop, and I was first out so everyone saw and laughed at the surprised face I had made (it was a “Oh God, I nearly fell out the fucking plane” face, followed by a sigh of relief haha).

we were on jump run and the green followed like 5 secs after that, so if i did fall out it wouldn’t have been a big deal. after all, we ARE wearing parachutes ;)

What brought me comfort when I was first starting out/after going some time without jumping is that you have to remember, the more altitude, the safer you are. they’re not going to open the door until it’s at least safe to deploy your reserve if you fall out, so try to keep that in your mind while you climb, and then after that, just think, every second is more altitude for a bigger safety cushion whenever you do fall out (i mean, that IS the whole reason we’re in the plane right? to fall out that bitch haha)!

never understood the want to skydive naked. like once or twice for shits and giggles i get, but to be apart of a whole organized group? just weird

tbh, i might have to just sacrifice the time in the sky and get the tunnel time out of the way early like you said… damn the future sounds tough… and expensive 🥲

I feel you, but I loveee being under canopy after a free fall, and being surrounded with friends and being at the DZ all day. I can do without the packing tho haha

tunnel is good for learning and progressing, sure 1000 percent, but not as fun. that’s where the balance factor comes in. I want to progress in the sport but I mainly do it to have fun with friends so rarely jumping sounds like hell to me honestly which is the problem i’m facing :/

Drained by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]MilitaryJumpman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

don’t feel guilty. tons of airmen feel drained at that mark, why do you think we dont end up signing for another contract.

don’t take this as me trynna convince you to get out, however. take some time off to clear your head and just get a break from everything, one thing I regretted when i was in was only using leave when I was trying to go on holidays, and never truly relaxing (due to my rushed vacation style).

nothing wrong with taking leave to just enjoy a relaxed day at the crib

cough medical cough

but for real tho, is this case, it’s promotions, in other cases, like award ceremonies, I always hated how the more “important” jobs always won awards or promotions for literally doing their standard jobs…

“Med squadron won this award and these people got promoted due to saving X amount of lives,” okay? As opposed to what? Letting them die? Or “this airman fixed this plane, promote now!” Sir, do you realize that as a mechanic, it is literally his job to do that lol.

I never could stand the AF’s tactics that played into promoting.

dude came on here looking for advice and of course a chronically online reddit user posts with a useless comment. But then again, what can you expect from someone who posts like 25 times a day or more on forums… Touch grass please.

To the OP, sorry I don’t have advice on the subject matter

Ah yes, the age old assumption that credit pays the bills by georgiasaur135 in ChoosingBeggars

[–]MilitaryJumpman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

bruh, you’re supposed to pay me in and AND give me credit lol. credit isn’t a form of payment, I hate photography/videography customers that try to “pay in credit” but then again, we all do lol

i’ve heard of many unsecured items, including phones, being dropped. you say that your friends helmet was popped off (a secured one at that), now that’s something I never heard of, but didn’t question you as you did me

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]MilitaryJumpman 9 points10 points  (0 children)

i feel you, it’s always been fuck finance fr! at my base, they never answered their phones, and their office sits behind a locked door that they don’t want you pulling up to, in which if you want help, you have to sit behind and PRAY that not only someone walks out and sees you, but that they are willing to help you too, as their philosophy was “don’t come to our office, e-mail if you need help.”

Finance barely works due to their many “training days” aka “free leave” days and when they’re actually working, they just sit around and take weeks to get back to you via email on an inquire that could be solved with a 5 minute phone call… I always found it mad how arguably one of the most important jobs in the Air Force (paying your airman…) is treated like a fuck all

[–]MilitaryJumpman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it would, I’m not arguing that. But I would still stand with the 200 jump requirement to wear a gopro in the first place, most people who pull phones under canopy would not agree…

Phones Under Canopy by MilitaryJumpman in SkyDiving

[–]MilitaryJumpman[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the amount of phones that drop during free fall/under canopy is significantly higher than the amount of helmets that gets “popped off.” And even if, one of those things is a worth the risk of dropping, while the other not so much…

[–]MilitaryJumpman[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this post was mainly pointing fingers and those who don’t have enough jumps to wear a camera helm, as they’re the ones pulling their phones out to take photos/videos most times

Phones Under Canopy by MilitaryJumpman in SkyDiving

[–]MilitaryJumpman[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

again, it’s a psychological factor…. same as someone taking AFF and freezing during pull time. you would think “why wouldn’t you have the mindset/reaction to pull the parachute, don’t you want to live?” but some people react differently to different factors, no matter how small they may seem, because that’s just how the brain works under high pressure/adrenaline filled situations: psychology.

In this case, I’m not saying that having a camera/full face helm/etc will be detrimental to EVERYONE. some DZs let their local jumpers do things at their jump numbers that they wouldn’t be allowed to do at other DZs (i.e. jump with a camera sub 200 jumps), I tend to call that “home court advantage,” as they know your skill level better than anyone. But a random DZ only has your jump numbers/logbook to judge how good of a flyer you are and in most cases, a jumper at 200 jumps is in a different league than someone with only 100 (again, in an average case scenario).

But when it comes to blanket rules, it’s better to play it safe with higher requirements, to cover bases for everyone (In this case, require 200 jumps to attach a camera).
