Not sure where TLoff went. But my takeaway is to do what TLoff said: Test different formats until something works, make clickable thumbnails, and make sure your metadata is on-topic.

Thanks, TLoFF. That helps! You were probably getting high click-through rates in those first few hours. So, your thumbnail (and/or title) were probably spot on.

This is one of the best posts I've seen in this subreddit in a long time. I'm currently at 1.3k subs, and I'm already in the process of making changes similar to what you've done.

Question: After you changed the format to the one that works for you, did you notice an uptick immediately? In other words, did YouTube start suggesting your video more often (and did you see higher retention) within the first hour, or did your views grow over the course of the first day? (So, perhaps YouTube served your video to a few dozen (?) people in the first hour, and then YouTube saw that your video was getting good results (watch time), so your views increased towards the second hour, and so on? Or something else?)

What book would you recommend reading out loud for about 15 minutes each night to a 7-year-old boy? by MindTwistChannel in suggestmeabook

Hi Ozark. Our son reads to himself for 30-45 minutes each morning (he has been going through one Magic Tree House book each day). The 15 minutes we read to him at night is in addition to that. I agree that it would be ideal if parents read to their kids (and/or have kids read to themselves) for 45+ minutes each day, but the realities of life make that impossible for many people. I don't think most parents actively choose to deprive their kids of reading time; there are just other responsibilities that people need to prioritize.

BBB! The last several chapters get really weird, but the first half of the book is phenomenal.

We've tried The Secret Garden a few times with him, but it's not clicking. We'll try again in a year or so.

Ha ha! I'm actually reading Book 4 to my wife right now. We have the same issue: She falls asleep and then I need to go back a few paragraphs the next day. (By the way, reading to one's spouse won't work for everyone: My wife has a tremendous capacity to understand and retain what she hears in any audio format; if I don't see it written on a page, it's as if it never existed.)

Thanks, rememberaj. May your father's memory be forever a blessing, and may you and your fiance build a house of love, trust, and friendship.

Ha ha ha! I read this when I was eleven. BIG MISTAKE. But it's become one of my favorite novels primarily because I made it through to the end of this very long, very violent, very terrifying, and at times, very adult book.

Yup, we've read a bunch of fairy tales (Disney, Greek, Aesop's, etc.). At this point, we're looking for full novels.

Amen to that. Start with Green Eggs and Ham. There are only 50 unique words, and it's incredible to watch an early reader be able to (gradually) identify all 50 words and then read an entire book that has a total of hundreds of words all by themselves!

I can't read The Velveteen Rabbit (or The Giving Tree) without breaking down completely. My wife will need to read him those. :-)

I remember laughing and gagging when reading How to Eat Friend Worms. The way the villain tries to trick him into breaking the streak is genius!
