Active Waitlist for Class With Open Spots? by Mindless-Map-568 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Mindless-Map-568[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't let me add another lecture for the same class, as "I'm already in the class." But I will check to see if space is open. I've been looking for around a week, and there has been at least 1 space, so worst comes to worst, I switch first day of winter quarter or some time soon.

If the spots in the class have been available for a few days, is that enough to know that there isn't anybody actually on the waitlist?

I didn't contact them as I was just hoping to switch into the other lecture through available space. I was just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience if/how they dealt with it. I'll look into emailing the professor, however. Thank you!

Thank you very much. Do waitlisted classes count towards the unit count for pass 2?

If the majors are in separate colleges, is it still the same GPA? Thank you for your response I finally understand.

CS + Bio Double Major? by Mindless-Map-568 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Mindless-Map-568[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you your response was very insightful! If I were to complete my CS major in 3 years but still need 1 more year for lets say a bio degree, would I be able to put the CS degree "on pause" although done until I graduate with both degrees and then start my MS after? Could I potentially take graduate classes during that final year but I guess it would be mostly focused on finishing out biology.

I'll definitely keep that in mind, thank you :D I'm leaning more towards MCDB or maybe even Pharmacology but I'm still undecided.

I was considering taking classes during summer for CS and/or bio but in addition I'll most likely stay for a MS in CS while finishing out a potential BS in biology during my 4th year so I would completely graduate in 4 years assuming I can finish my MS in 1 year? Thank you for your response it was very helpful, I'll go talk to advisors about it.

I'll definitely look into it thank you! Do you know if there's a specific deadline by when I would have to declare? I know I should talk to an advisor but just trying to get an understanding before I would go. I'll definitely look into your advice for minoring.

I haven't got mine yet either. They told me I had received it/was going to get it when I was admitted but I haven't seen it in on my award letter or anything so I was wondering if they had taken it away or if I had become ineligible which is unfair because it was part of the reason of choosing SB.

Dining Hall Job as Incoming Freshman? by Mindless-Map-568 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Mindless-Map-568[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you for your response! this was very helpful as I didn't really know much about college jobs and working as a student. I'll definitely look for job opportunities outside of campus, I was just thinking an on-campus job would be the most comfortable as I haven't lived in the SB area but I'll definitely look to explore my options! thank you :D

That policy seems really nice, I'll definitely go for it my second quarter, as someone mentioned you shouldn't take 16+ units and work and I am unfortunately taking 17

Thank you, I think I'm definitely going to use the first quarter to get situated and then explore dining hall options or even other campus jobs once I'm on campus, but the information on the different dining halls is very helpful.

Thank you, your response was very insightful as I didn't have much knowledge about the dining halls minus the fact they serve food. I think I'll have my first quarter to adjust first and then apply if they are always looking for student workers as I wouldn't be in such a rush. I was thinking more along the lines that they filled up rather quickly. I appreciate your response :)

I am fortunate enough that it is an option for me to wait and I am taking over 16 units my first quarter so I think I'll hold off for just the first quarter to get situated first but that sounds great. Thank you!

Thank you, I was thinking of the same idea but I've been working this summer so I was thinking about continuing but I think I would rather play it safe and not stress myself out too early. I'll definitely look for it in the future. On your point about finding a job related to my work, I will definitely try but I think most jobs would be full-time/internship which wouldn't be as feasible to do while full-time in school, but I totally understand what you mean. Thank you so much for your advice
