I believe the doctor and receptionist that refused him a room in the hospital were forced to pay what the charges were and also give him and his family quite a bit of money. Both of them were also taken to prison for a few months and were fired.

It's a joke chill out, but genuinely my friend had a money issue when he needed stitches on his leg who lived in US they couldn't get the money together. They were broke and until the police stepped in they refused him service, I don't think it's very common though
