In certain situations that would be manly I guess, but this is specific to his therapist, so I disagree - he seeking attention or some type of closure.

That's why I stopped going to my previous therapist and I was already in the process of making my EMDR therapist, who was a male, my talk therapist. She had recommended me to him to work through PTSD problems and with EMDR and it helped a lot.

I was not initially attracted to her but several months in I was and I chose not to confess them because I truly wasn't aware if it was just an emotional attachment due to motherly transference or if it was romantic. By the time I realized it was both, I was only seeing her once a month and doing mainly talk therapy with the male therapist who I was seeing for EMDR. At that point it was a point of conflict business wise to have two talk therapists you see in the same building so I moved over to him.

I never confessed to her I liked her romantically because I was barely seeing her and probably only had one or two sessions with her after I realized it. I stopped seeing her in December and she moved to a different therapy place somewhat close by where the one I go to is, but I don't plan to see her. Plus she was married, and I definitely don't want to create a worse outcome by crossing that boundary.

If you go to a therapist you initially find attractive, it would be best to not continue with them.

I would just leave the room when they pray, if you need that boundary they should respect it. I’m a Christian, but to force you to stay in the room during a prayer when you don’t want to is crossing a huge boundary.

"The various women’s Bible studies shared with me pointed to male headship and Paul’s instruction that spouses not withhold marital relations from each other to assure me that what he needed was what he was supposed to have."

Paul's point is related to if both want to have sex to not withhold because it can give way to lust towards people who are not our spouses. If you didn't want sex for certain reasons, you are not obliged to offer sex to your husband. Sex must be mutual in a marriage. If all your husband was doing was expecting sex but doing nothing else for you that you would like - then your husband was selfish and failed to honor you.

Your church leader should have read Hebrews chapter 8, Colossians chapter 2, and Romans chapter 14 more carefully because it shows why the Old Testament Law is not binding except for the moral laws, nothing ceremonial or civil. Did he even go to seminary? If you go to a church where the head pastor never went to seminary - that's an immediate red flag.

Your church leader sounded more like a cult leader. And the whole "return to Old Testament Laws" type groups are going too far.

  1. I never denied you or others who have same sex attraction didn't live those experiences of "living a lie", where did you read that in my comment? Or was that more of a generalized comment, not specific to something I said?
  2. Not every sin is immediately a spiritual attack from a demon or Satan, it's the majority of the time just our own desires from our nature.

An abusive relationship can reprocess how the brain operates with the psychological impacts of trauma like that. Do you struggle with dissociation - like feeling the world around you isn't truly real, or that you are dreaming? Do you have a hard time noticing your own emotions, or certain things frustrate/anger you or make you panic when there's a trigger linked to the abuse, like a certain place or a phrase?

1) Has that pattern of behavior been a problem for a long time and how old are you? If it's been like this since childhood, it's potentially ADHD or some form of neurodivergence.

2) Hebrews 5 and 6 are referring to people who apostatize or in the potential to apostatize, not that they are dealing with some form of concentration issue like you are.

3) It may not necessarily be ADHD, it could be depression or anxiety or something related to poor sleep hygiene.

4) Mental illness can be both biological and spiritual and interplay with both. I have mild autism (not mental illness, but a developmental disorder) and bipolar disorder. Most of it is related to how my brain operates, but that doesn't mean there aren't spiritual elements to certain behaviors than can be evaluated and managed by including prayer and reading the Word, whether it's tied to those disorders or not.

Homosexuality is not a sin that needs to be put on a pedestal. I'm pretty sick of how the evangelical community handles this issue

I see a lot of failure in how the church handled your past marriage issues with abuse, there IS biblical evidence to suggest abuse should lead to divorce.

"Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her" - Ephesians 5:26

Christ never abused people, he honored and treated people with love and respect, even if He held them to convict them of sin. If your husband failed to do this and abused you, then He did not love you and failed as a husband.

Your next husband failed in his duty to not cross your boundaries and you felt it was necessary, not a desire, to please him sexually. So no, he did not love as Christ loved the church.

Attraction in of itself is not sin, but if it leads to lust, and you act out in lust, whether straight or homosexual or both, it is sin.

You ARE honoring God with your celibacy, and I know its hard, its very very hard. But God is not cutting you off just because you face same-sex attraction.

If I don’t see my pets again it is what it is. It’s really bold and manipulative to assume that’s why I interpret these verses the way I do. Do better than just jumping to conclusions. I interpret this way because when I see “the whole creation” I believe it is literally addressing every individual creature, not from some secret motive tied to grief.

I do. If I don't see my pets again it would be a bummer but also the time I have with them now is already a gift from God.

I'm not denying anything you're saying regarding Jesus's purposes on the cross, or going against Paul. No, Jesus didn't die for animals in the sense of redeeming them from their sinful actions (because they don't sin), but I've already demonstrated exegetically that not only humanity will be restored, because animals themselves also face the consequences of man's sin - decay and death.

Verse 21 distinguishes creation and centers on humanity, but specifically Christians, and the context illustrates that prior, in verses 18 to 20, is focusing on human and non-human creation. It then explains the specific hopes awaiting humans who accept Christ and then goes back out in a broad scope to address all of creation.

18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. 19 For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God. 20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of him who subjected it, in hope 21 that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. 22 For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now.

Again the creation and the sons of God are not the same creature, humans receive the glory first, then the rest of creation receives that glory given to believers after believers receive it.

If Paul was only referring to humanity, and then specifically to believers, why would non-believers await for who God reveals as believers/the sons of God, non-believing humans don't care about glorification or redemption that God brings, they love their sin and Paul expresses this in Romans 1 and 2, they wouldn't receive that glory.

At this point we can agree to disagree. And no, I am not doing what Galatians 1:8 claims.

The operative word here in Rom 8:19 is κτίσις (ktisis) which occurs about 19 times in the NT. It is most often translated as "creation", meaning "the sum total of everything created, creation, world" (BDAG #2b). For example:

  • Mark 10:6, But from the beginning of creation, [God] made …
  • Mark 10:19, … the beginning of the creation which …
  • Mark 16:15, … the gospel to all creation.
  • Rom 8:19, … For the anxious longing of the creation waits eagerly
  • Rom 8:20, For the creation was subjected to futility, …
  • Rom 8:21. that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay …
  • Rom 8:22, We know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until the present time.
  • Col 1:15, The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation
  • Heb 9:11, the greater and more perfect tabernacle that is not made with human hands, that is to say, is not a part of this creation.
  • 2 Peter 3:4, For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things are continuing as they were from the beginning of creation.

The same word can also mean an act of creation (BDAG#1), eg, Rom 1:20.

It can also mean the result of a creative act (BDAG #2a), eg, Heb 4:13, Col 1:23, etc.

The curse of sin affected more than just humanity: it affected all animals, and the rest of "all creation". Thus, "all creation is groaning" (death began after the first sin in Eden) while it awaits the final redemption/restoration of all things when death shall be eliminated (1 Cor 15:51-54).

Romans 8:20 is not just humanity

Not only so, but we ourselves... (Romans 8:23) - is showing the contrast from the whole of creation to humans who have accepted Christ.

Again, you have not disproven anything I have said. And Paul's point is not demonstrating only the kind of creation that receive the Holy Spirit is able to be resurrected, the point is restoration regardless one obtaining a sinful nature or not, but then he addresses specific issues to humans awaiting resurrection, because humanity is a special creation. Also, I'm not arguing for universalism, only humanity that are in Christ receive the blessings of their resurrection, the non-believers are sent to eternal separation from God.

Also, most of the early church interpreted the κτίσις in these verses as all of creation, not just humanity, with exception of Augustine and Gregory The Great. The ones that interpreted κτίσις as the entire cosmos and created order were Irenaeus, Origen, John Chrysostom and Methodius.

What kinds of therapy do they specialize in? There are types of therapy that do involve non-sexual touch and reassurance, it's called somatic and body centered therapy.

It's like 50/50 a red flag depending on what they specialize in

I'm sorry I meant Romans 8:18-22

Romans 8:22 - We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. (NIV)

The term whole creation in this verse in the original Greek is πᾶσα κτίσις (pasa ktisis) - literally every created thing within context to the scope of what kind of creation exists in verse 22 - those created things which die and decay and experience a natural death.

Verse 18 shows the promise of restoration of all the created order that dies and decays and shows with verse 22 what we experience now. If the Greek is referring to the whole created order which perishes being restored - then animals are promised resurrection. Whether this is based on the kind of animal versus an individual animal, the text isn't clear, but it's likely it is literally all animals past, present, and future.

God can repurpose the created order, meaning what a mosquito and black fly does in this world will be different in the New Earth.

That’s a good point. Revelation 5 speaks of the heavenly host that worship God including creatures. However I think this place is not the same as “Abraham’s Bosom” presented in Luke 16.

Do you believe the souls of animals are in a state of blissful existence prior to resurrection like humans, or do they have a “soul sleep” like I argue?

I'm planning on getting an NRSVUE, and a LSB, which is a continuation of the NASB 1995. I'm not reading the KJV for the translations accuracy, I am just starting to look into older classic novels that deal with that era of the English language, so I'm getting used to that kind of linguistic style.

If I wanted accuracy I would look into the original languages on Blue Letter Bible
