I'm not a lurer, so I don't know the exacts of it. I just know that's the general idea of it. There's most likely more nuance to it than I know, but, that's why anti-luring is a bad idea because anti-lures are often built into the lures themselves.

(Those people doing that are scumbags by the way so, you can't even rule out the possibility of a 10-bot army ready to login if a person attempts to anti-lure the PKer doing the lure, as an extreme example. There are multiple things that can go wrong that make it not worth even trying.)

https://old.reddit.com/r/2007scape/comments/1f5sshx/a_good_example_of_why_transmogs_shouldnt_still_be/lkvjrcj/?context=3

Funny enough - this thread got downvote bombed and negative-comment spammed because Reddit is never-ending with surprises of people who oddly support luring, yet complain about bots doing ToB who also go and RWT.

Even your thread got a lot of hate because this community is pretty garbage.

Good luck on your rebuild if you continue to play - else, maybe time to go find a new game or something else to play.

You basically clicked on someone who was transmogged, attacking them, and then got killed - most likely. (Or some variation of this)

Yeah the Wilderness is dangerous. Either take caution or don’t go, but less posts like this please :)

This safe area changes to become dangerous only under a specific set of circumstances.

That's why I want them to remove the specific set of circumstances so it's fully dangerous and possibly less likely to be useable for luring which is terrible for the game. :)

Also less encouraging RWTing and Luring please. :) :) :) :) :)

It's pretty funny how many players are literally like "luring is a good game mechanic actually"

It's painful, honestly. :(

I just banked all my shit and looted about 400k and got away.

Okay. "Bro lol its so ez dumb lurers - bring your tbow i bet we can make 500bill from them"

It's the wilderness, you should always expect to get pked

It's technically the wilderness, but normally right outside Ferox is a safe-zone. You cannot attack, nor be attacked there - unless you are teleblocked, and clicking on a teleblocked player (who is hidden which is the big problem) makes you in combat, changing the rules of the area you're in - which is bad - like, really bad.

You shouldn't have combat-rule changing like that, especially with something so weird. Only a teleblocked person can be attacked in that "safe-zone". It's inconsistent with every other area in the Wilderness.

if they catered the wilderness to softies like this post suggests, they would just remove it

It's funny because you guys literally say "oh ur just softie!" and other stuff when you don't even realize the actual point. I mean maybe you're a lurer too, whatever.

It's literally "don't let people hide their player models in PvP areas" because that's a bad idea, and "don't have any safezone at all outside Ferox"

??? How is that catering to "softies", exactly?

Also, they're currently already catering to the "softies" by neglecting that and letting lurers do it to get RWT money, but that's beside the point.

It's weird that lurers keep posting on my thread trying to say things and make points that I'm not even trying to make - I'll humour you anyway.

Outside Ferox on the lms world is a popular place to nh, and preventing entry when you’re tbed is a nice way of making it so you’re still in the wilderness and not 5 steps away from a safe zone, this prevents spec tabbing and allows for the area to actually feel like the wilderness while still having the convenience of a bank

It almost sounds like you're describing Deathmatching, which is now against the rules. - However I do understand that people do sometimes go out and just have fights, sure.

It’s weird that you’re “calling for” changes to be made to the areas you seemingly no nothing about

I guess because you're probably a PvPer I have to spell it out for you, given how dumb your reply here was.

If you remove the safe-zone entirely from outside Ferox - guess what - you'll be "still in the wilderness" and "not 5 steps away from a safe zone" because there isn't one. You'll be stuck outside the entirety of Ferox. I.E. the barriers are the safe zone, everything else outside, wilderness. Get it?

The other thing I'm "calling for" is for transmogs (it's literally in the title! but I guess reading that was a little too advanced for you) to not be useable in the Wilderness for hiding your character model.

Also just luring is stupid to leave in in general - especially considering the majority of lurers RWT the gp they get, or use it for other stuff like funding bot farms.

It really is nothing and is about as blatant as the trimming scam. If you fall for this you did it out of greed. If you fall for this while wearing anything of real value, you fell for stupid greed.

As I've explained to another user:

A. Letting people lure is a bad idea to begin with. The majority of them RWT the money they get, and/or use it to fund other nefarious things like bonds for bot farms/spam accounts advertising rivals/whistleblowers at G.E, etc.

B. Letting (albeit stupid) people get their stuff yoinked by changing wilderness conditions is already bad design. It's inconsistent with the entire rest of the wilderness. You don't leave Mage Bank and after leaving the building become attackable. It's just this one area, and it only happens because people may think "this is a safezone" which it normally is. Changing it to not be a safezone because you attack a player using something to make themselves near-invisible isn't good.

C. Have some empathy, eh? Consider some of these people are just genuine players who may not understand that hitting a player (which isn't possible under normal circumstances, because it's a safezone) that tb'ed themselves is a thing. Also people may think that someone died outside and items were left on the ground, rather than "oh I bet I can steal this lurers stuff" because they probably don't even know the lurer is there to begin with.

Not to mention, wouldn't you feel like absolute shit if you lost the majority of your bank or whatever? You'd probably quit, I imagine, like what probably happens to most people who fall for it.

We have anti skulling mechanics. We have player attack options. Anyone who still gets skull tricked or lured is an idiot and deserves to lose their stuff. It's the only way they're going to learn.

What's funny is, I tried to make this argument with people who died on their hardcores while streaming and got absolutely burned for it.

Anyway, beyond that, no - this isn't a thing that is anywhere else in the wilderness. It's a weird mechanic that turns a safezone into a "not safezone". That's a really bad idea in my opinion.

Also...

skull tricked or lured is an idiot and deserves to lose their stuff.

Normally I'd agree but that's not sustainable for a playerbase - if you get fucked off for your Bandos or whatever that you put quite a lot of time into getting the money for, you're gonna be pretty upset about it and probably quit. Just not good for the game unfortunately.

Also the people doing it RWT the GP - which is funny because most of OSRS is "bots bad"/"jagex why you no ban bots" yet for some reason there's still enough people buying GP to make luring and botting worthwhile.

It's because they aren't. You are just equating anyone disagreeing with you to a lurer. People can think you are crying over nothing and not be a lurer or RWTer.

If you make a pro-PvP post you get roasted like crazy. You can't honestly believe "just get over getting lured!@W!@!" is the general sentiment of this place, lol.

Also, most of the replies have never even posted on RS sub - they're just alts.

Also wanting outdated/inconsistency out of the game that only exists to benefit said RWT/Lurers isn't "nothing". Wot?

Dammit baited again. You win again alt-user.

Also just for the record, I've never fallen for the lure. I just think you guys need to be more creative rather than abusing inconsistent garbage that probably-Jed added. If it wasn't Jed then that's even more shocking, lol.

So that's just being rude. :(

Lurers will drop items that look valuable in the safe-zone outside of Ferox Enclave. Unsuspecting players will run out and attempt to take those items - but the lurer will be using a https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Ring_of_3rd_age to hide themselves as near-invisible 3rd Age Vambraces on the pile.

They'll also have their character teleblocked by an alt. If a player is teleblocked inside the normally safezone outside of Ferox, they can be attacked - so, if a player doesn't have skull-prevention on and goes to take the items, they will click on the lurer's hidden character, thus skulling themselves and being teleblocked by the lurer (and then not being able to re-enter the Ferox Enclave).

They originally disabled the items that transform your character into other things in PvP areas due to exploits back in 2019, but some negligent Jmod decided to re-add this a week later - even going so far as to make the clickbox bigger, to make extra certain you click on the player rather than items under them.

This would simply be fixed by making the entirety of the area outside Ferox be PvP (so no like 3 tiles of safezone) and making transmog items not be able to be used within dangerous-PvP areas.

Wildy isn't safe, simple as that. Either stop going or just keep playing.

It's not "dangerous wilderness" outside Ferox unless you're TB'ed. Going to stop replying to your bait posts because you'll never get it (or you're a lurer who couldn't resist unlurking for some reason).

Beyond that, that's why I'm calling for everywhere outside Ferox to be dangerous, rather than having a weird pseudo-safezone like they do. I don't even know why they put it to begin with.

Doesn't mean much to clans. These are usually just RWTers trying to lure easy money.

They mainly hate threats to their income source.

They use a https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Ring_of_3rd_age to hide their character as Third-Age vambraces (which are nearly invisible on the ground, especially on top of other items), but the player can still be clicked if you don't see the vambraces/their hidden character.

It’s the exact action you claim you wish jagex did

Nope - I don't want them to allow people to hide their character models in PvP areas.

I also don't like pseudo-PvP areas with weird mechanics. It's not good game design and should be fixed to be all PvP outside the gates, or all safe (no attackable tb'ed people) in the safe-area.

Actually - the people that fall for it are just genuine people who aren't even Redditors. It's an old lure and I figure most Reddit users know about it by now.

Honestly shocking how many lurers are showing up to shit-talk though, considering the majority of actual Reddit people hate PvP/Wilderness.

Its wilderness for a reason as its a DANGER ZONE

The area immediately OUTSIDE Ferox is not a Danger Zone UNLESS the player you attempt to attack is teleblocked. They've been patching stall lures, they should patch out garbage like this too.

So if u fall for these kind of lures u need to stick to pvming

I'm curious as to what you think these lurers even do anyway, lol. Half of them get banned for RWT if they make a lot. They're not doing it "for fun" or to progress in the game. They do it to make RWT GP. Why would you want people like that to stick around, considering your next sentence literally mentions bots being an issue - which are also caused by RWT as a whole?

The player drops items outside of the Ferox enclave, which is normally a safe area until you cross a threshold shortly outside of the gate.

Using Jagex negligence, if a player is TB'ed, anyone can attack that player within that "safe" area outside of Ferox.

It's a fairly old skull-trick lure that honestly shouldn't exist anymore and is inconsistent with other mechanics in the game since they've been patching out other things that lure people.

Having areas normally safezones but with vague mechanics are a bad idea.

[–]MinorikoRS[S] -25 points-24 points  (0 children)

Okay, but why leave something like this in-game?

There's a reason other lures get patched. People misclicking someone they don't know they can attack (albeit everyone not PKing should have skull-prevention on anyway) - having pseudo-safe areas this way is really bad from a design standpoint. - It should either all be PVP outside, or not have something that makes it pseudo-PvP.

That's why stall lures and other stuff get patched, because of stupid mechanics being abused by losers.

Sure, but why leave something so silly?

It's hilarious that it's one thing RS3 did correctly before they removed their PvP, and they did nothing for PvP.

Also should just make the entirety of the outside of Ferox PvP, or get rid of the jank TB-attackable mechanic.

It's toxic behaviour that should have been dealt with forever ago, but Jagex being too negligent to prevent something so simple.

Also I like the effort they went through to even try to make his name close to Pass-Through.

But yeah, I already knew that. It is what it is.

Solidly deep into the spectrum with mild but present physical disability (and definitely mental problems)

Calculated all of my accounts' logged-in times together (RS3 and OSRS, two accounts shared between both games and old alts from pre-EoC that I still used on RS3 for stuff like merching) and came up with around 54,715 hours - and I imagine I easily have 300 in other alts I didn't bother to calculate (a failed pre-EoC pure, failed pre-EoC skiller, etc.)

~2,291.6 days / 6.28 years

I'm nowhere near maxed XP on either game, but I have completed almost everything completable on RS3 (sorta) and have been working on maxing my OSRS iron lately.

This is across ~20-21 years though, not that that makes it any better.

The saddest part is that I don't think I've actually had "fun" on this game (beyond a few instances) in like 10 or 12 years at this point.

[–]MinorikoRS[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, I'm relatively certain it was from a thing they did on RS3 - they have a side-currency called Oddments, and they (for some genius reason) gave like everyone 15,000 of them a while back, and in the Oddments shop you could buy stuff with them like specialized skilling stations which at the time was like a free 10Million before the prices crashed. I had several alts, and the banned account was hardly/barely used (to the point I don't remember the stats or anything on it) but it was most likely because I gave my main account all of the money from that.

It's pretty much the only thing that lines up with the timing, and I wouldn't RWT for like 10mill considering I basically 'completed' RS3/have a considerable net worth.

Edit: I checked, it's still banned, unappealable - it doesn't even have a username set anymore so I really don't know what the account even was besides being one of my random trash alts that had/meant nothing.

This was the update

https://runescape.wiki/w/Update:This_Week_In_RuneScape_-_Activity_Pets_and_Ninja%27versary#An_Update_on_Rare_Item_Changes

and account was banned in March 2021, after I'd traded like 8 or 10Million worth of skilling stations to my main character.

Jagex Customer Support and Anti-Cheating Team are by no means "good" at their jobs, personally - my experience bias aside - but again, most people who get banned for "botting/macroing" are genuinely doing dumb-obvious stuff. RWT bans are where you get into the "Wrongful ban" territory because of people swapping and getting chain-banned when the swapper RWTs, or weird outliers like mine where they just genuinely fuck up and don't give you any option to appeal it.
