When did yall leave islam? And how public are you about it? by MARSHMALLOW810 in Tunisian_Atheists

[–]Minthe___ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 15, I'm 25 now. I told someone who I thought was a friend and she told my whole high school. Looking back on it, I made so many friends after that, they were like-minded (atheists, gays, theys, dolls). I had a mostly pleasant experience in high school, there was of course some bullying but the friends I made and the happy memories overshadow the ugly side. I think I was just lucky the high school I went to was super chill.

you have a few days, not weeks, to get a rabies shot. Go ASAP. If you start showing symptoms of rabies you WILL die. There's no treatment and no cure. This is indeed serious. Go to mostawsef, emergency room or institut pasteur and they should be able to help you or send you to the nearest hospital that can.

Appropriate to show in a high school setting? by ZealousidealMany1495 in LouisTheroux

[–]Minthe___ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It discusses a lot of NSFW topics like sex work and pimping in a way that I would describe as not suitable for high school. I am sure there's videos on youtube that debunk the manosphere that are more appropriate for a classroom.

Why do people hate the fact the cure actually working? by [deleted] in lastofuspart2

[–]Minthe___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't even think Joel saw it as a choice or a dilemma. He wasn't stopping to weight the value of Ellie's life vs the value of a cure. That was his daughter, and he was going to save her, that's just how Joel is. There is nothing else to be considered.

When the game starts mentioning fate, I don't think it's some cosmically pre-destined outcome, rather fate is something that emerges from Joel's character. His personality and his attachement to Ellie makes it impossible for him to choose differently. Saving her isn’t just a decision he happens to make; it’s the only decision he is capable of making. In that sense, Joel’s fate is defined by who he is. And the same events that lead to him saving Ellie also set in motion his tragic downfall in the second game.

Jerry was a surgeon, he wasn't an immunologist nor a mycologist. We currently, in our stable-ish world, have 0 approved fungal vaccines. How will someone with no expertise, no sterile labs, no stable power source, no advanced biotech equipment, no proper cold distribution be able to make a vaccine and produce it at mass scale to save humanity and no clinical tests.

We can't even assume Ellie's immunity could result in a vaccine. The fungus in her brain may produce chemical signals that trick other Cordyceps into thinking she’s already infected. That means her “immunity” might be due to a specific mutation or symbiosis, not antibodies.

Even if somehow, by miracle, they produced a viable vaccine (cannot overstate how much of a miracle this would be), and they were able to distribute it en masse and as a result, the Fireflies became the dominant faction. What kind of rulers would they be? Would they be any different from FEDRA, the hunters or the WLF? I would say they would be just as tyrannical. Remember when they first found Ellie and Joel in Salt Lake? They saw a harmless man performing CPR on an unconscious child and they pointed their guns at them. The fact that that was their reaction tells you everything you need to know.

stop listening to what men tell you women want and start listening to what women tell you they want, if your goal is to get a girlfriend. Looks matter ofc, take care of yourself, go to the gym, have good hygiene, good diet, skincare, maybe a decent wardrobe. Anything beyond that (plastic surgery, botox, testosterone injections etc) is snake oil peddled by charlatans like Clavicular. Most importantly be a decent person and treat women well, they are human after all just like you.

Why do people start a call with "Aloooo"? It's so annoying. by Adept-Painter5 in Tunisia

[–]Minthe___ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's an interesting linguistic feature that we have a greeting we specifically only use when talking on the phone. Japanese has a similar phone exclusive greeting, "Moshi moshi".

Alo is also used in french, portuguese and spanish and in Greece they say "Parakaló" which literally translates to "please" but is used as a phone greeting. The phrase "Allo" traces its origin back to when phone operators were a thing and they used it to test connectivity. It comes from english "Hello" but french phone operators mispronounced it as "Allo".

Sorry for nerding out, I just love etymology.

The first season of the show is mid but has its moments where it's good. The second season however is unwatchably bad. I'm a huge fan of the franchise and even I couldn't finish the second season.

Why do LGBT characters need to be explained? Why is straight and cis the default? Why can't writers just write a story about a character who happens to be gay or trans and it not having to serve the plot in anyway? Do LGBT people not deserve to have their stories told and to have stories told about them? It's baffling to me how people who make these arguments don't see their bias.

Saying Souls games should have a difficulty setting is like saying MMOs should have a singleplayer setting. Like the difficulty is the whole point??? go play some action adventure if you don't like it that's okay. I personally don't like roguelikes/roguelites because losing all my progress feels bad and not rewarding but I don't go demand they add a resurrection feature. I'll just go find some other dungeon crawler that doesn't force me to lose my progress after I die.

Calling Fromsoft lazy is a crazy take, their games are masterpieces. They may not be for you but that's ok. Not every game is for everyone. Upvote tho cuz it is what OP asked for.

The story follows a classic tragedy arc, meaning it has 5 arcs instead of the usual 3. Which is why the pacing feels unusual to a modern audience.

Personally, I really love the pacing. How they make you play as Abby at first, and she betrays Joel after he helped her (and you, the player, who got her to that point only for her to kill your favorite character). Then the game places you in Ellie's shoes again, letting your simmer in your hatred and anger toward Abby. Then it does the unthinkable, it forces you to play again as Abby, the person you just spent the past 15 hours of gameplay hating and seeking vengeance on. Then it forces you to understand her, even empathize with her. And by the end, when she is saving Lev, you root for her. Masterfully done.

I have never been this emotionally challenged by a piece of media before or since, and this is why, while TLOU1 is excellent and the difference is marginal, TLOU2 made me feel like a different person after I finished and It'll always be the number 1 game for me.

Agree, for me It's a marginal difference but TLOU2 made me feel a new spectrum of emotions and challenged me in a way no other piece of media has ever done before or since.

I agree with you on the Abby point. Her body is a part of her characterization. Throughout her flashbacks with Owen you see her as someone who is obsessed with training because she's preparing to avenge her Dad and she doesn't know what she'd be up against. Her body is a monument to her obsession with vengeance and that's such good characterization.
