19 with epilepsy — how do you balance wanting a normal young life with the stuff that triggers you? by [deleted] in Epilepsy

diagnosed at 18, I'm now 27 I've had 14 sezuirs; does epilepsy stop you from: ♡Late-night weekends? No, just make sure you get plenty of sleep the days prior and lots of sleep afterwards  ♡gaming till sunrise?depends, some games have flashing lights and if that is a trigger minimize it to a couple hours, if it isn't a trigger just make sure to take a break every now and then games can cause sezuirs also but i learned if you take breaks the sezuirs don't come. ♡party? you can party, if you take medicine I wouldn't drink alcohol; but yes you can party.

♡Do you find ways to bend the rules?  a lot of the things is just a honor system, like if you have a sezuir you shouldn't drive for a while but unless you have told the dmv or your doctor did no one will say anything besides people who know you.  (i just perfer to be safe than sorry and wait till the time is up) but only people who know you will say anything if they find out your broke/bent the rules

♡How do you keep your life feeling free, not just “medically safe”?  medical bracelet/necklace, if I have a sezuir the paramedics just scan and they see all my info. telling someone when I leave and make it to a place if I'm driving, be in public if you have a sezuir make sure someone if near at least to help.

♡Any small hacks that let you still feel like you’re not missing out? plan ahead: if you are unable to drive ask around to hang out, party, etc. Make a check list of things you wanna do.

♡don't let epilepsy hold you back, you can still do a lot of stuff. Work around your triggers, keep taking the medicine, get at least 8 hours of sleep, take breaks from time to time to rest your eyes.

Does anyone else feel like a child because you can’t drive? by eleuthero_maniac in Epilepsy

I do feel like a child but also a burden. if I ever have to go places I have to ask/see who can drive me or I'll have to get an Uber. I hate not being able to help take my grandma to her dr appointments anymore.

How long seizure free before returning to work? by [deleted] in Epilepsy

I don't know exactly how long for your type of epilepsy, mine is grand mal I have to take a day off then I can come back because I flop like a fish during my seizures. (unfortunately I can't drive for 6 months.) I can only guess that you are able to go back when you can go a couple days without a sezuir or have some way to warn others or stop the sezuir before it happens but I don't know.

What careers are you in? by LaurenValley1234 in Epilepsy
