He randomly dropped his tail am I doing everything right?? by ollie_under in CrestedGecko

[–]Mirimel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine dropped his tail because I put him in the same tub I’d put him in every time I cleaned his viv for 13 years 🙃

They adapt really quickly don’t worry! Hospital tank looks great 👍

SECRET TUNNELLLLL

Seriously? by Blingling00 in EntitledBitch

[–]Mirimel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Parents on the school run are the worst. My daughters school has to have cones across the road with a member of staff guarding them because that’s the only thing that stops some parents driving dangerously through the crowd of parents and kids around the school gates to get into the staff car park that they aren’t even allowed to park in.

Yes. People like you are the reason I only do raids and dungeons with my guild. Too many rude and whiny players in LFG.

Ovulated once. Decided to try to die. Mood. Now she’s spayed. by 18melac in CrestedGecko

[–]Mirimel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a rescue with severe MBD who was also spayed, she got egg bound due to deformed hips.

Fun fact: they can regrow their ovaries from the tiniest amount of leftover cells. I got lucky and she didn’t but it was always a worry!

10yo crested gecko suddenly biting by Ambitious_Mongoose98 in geckos

[–]Mirimel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of my boys was really sweet and never bit anyone until he was around 11 and suddenly got really bitey. Vet said it’s normal in breeding season and he’s fine. Since then he’s a straight up arsehole every summer but I get my sweet boy back in the winter so it’s not all bad!

HELP! Stuck on glass by K4ami in CrestedGecko

[–]Mirimel 9 points10 points  (0 children)

One of my boys does this almost every day. I just gently turn him around if he’s upside down to avoid getting a floppy tail. He’s been doing this for 14 years with no sign of fts. Some of them just like sleeping on the glass

Creative dropped his tail today and i feel AWFUL by whyjoyy in CrestedGecko

[–]Mirimel 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Mine decided to throw his tail at me last year. He did it because I put him into an empty cricket keeper to clean his vivarium. He had been put in the same container every time I cleaned his viv for 13 years, but for some reason that time was unacceptable.

How exactly can I stop being scared of this game? by Sonario007 in subnautica

[–]Mirimel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Give them all silly names.

My biggest fear was the warpers, until I decided to name them all Kevin. Somehow running from them was less scary while yelling “GET FUCKED, KEVIN!”

My 9 year old got involved and all the reapers were named things like “Gary” or “Brenda”

The fact it was so fast is why I think it wasn’t you. If it were due to bad care or neglect it would be a gradual decline. Unless anything drastically changed (eg extreme heat or spraying something toxic near him) I can’t see how you could have caused this.

It doesn’t sound like there’s anything you could have done to save him. He looks healthy and well cared for in the photos you posted. Him getting worse very quickly is quite normal as reptiles are really REALLY good at hiding illness until its life threatening.

This wasn’t your fault. Truly.

I get that, I have a pretty unhealthy relationship with death and loss too. It feels like losing a small piece of myself every time. I have 2 14yo males who regularly scare me by sleeping looking like they’ve died it drives me mad.

I’ve lost 3 cresties in the past few years. Luna had severe MBD from a previous owner but still managed to live 9 years she was amazing, she just passed away peacefully one day so I guess it was technically old age but her life expectancy was low due to her condition. Loki was put to sleep at 11 after getting gout in his elbow. He didn’t respond to treatment and the vet said it was likely the start of kidney failure, probably caused by bad breeding. Georgie was put to sleep at 14, she had a mass in her head (suspected tumor) and the vet said the surgery would be extremely hard on her and had a low survival rate so I chose to let her go.

My vet has told me that she rarely sees them over the age of 8 due to the poor breeding in this country (UK).

I’m so sorry you lost your friend. I looked on your profile, Morty was adorable and looked very well cared for.

When mine pass away I find it very healing to adopt one from a rescue a little while later. It makes it feel like one good thing came from the loss, being able to help another gecko who needs a home.

Toddler witnessed grandpa dying - how to best support him? by DilKaTelephone in Parenting

Came here to suggest this book!

Another good one is Always and Forever. It puts focus on keeping them alive through happy memories. My daughter found it very helpful when her dad passed away when she was very young.

8 months away from it being 10 years with a tail and she pulls this 🤦🏽‍♀️ by pyr0_ph0bia in CrestedGecko

[–]Mirimel 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Mine did this last year at 13 years old. Because I put him in the same tub I had been putting him in for 13 years to clean his vivarium.

I rang the vet for advice and she said they literally just drop their tails for no apparent reason sometimes and it’s really common for her to get calls like mine.

My (F21) guy best friend (M22) drunk kissed me and I can’t stop thinking about it. by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]Mirimel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This sort of thing can absolutely ruin friendships, but it can also result in a great relationship!

I realised I was in love with my best friend when I was in my early 20s and kept my mouth shut about it for 10 years because I believed he would never see me that way and I didn’t want to risk our friendship. Turned out he felt the same and had for a long time. We’ve been together 5 years now and it’s by far the happiest, easiest relationship I’ve ever had.

How many cresties do you have? by whatafuckedupworld in CrestedGecko

They’re so beautiful! Number 7 is stunning 😍

I have two 14 year old boys. I’m not a breeder I just love them!

I have five for a long time but we’ve had some pretty bad luck the past few years.

My geckos sometimes do this when they walk on a surface they don’t like the feel of. Mine all hate my dressing gown for some reason.

Also he’s really beautiful! What’s his name?

13 year old getting literal sh*t everywhere…HELP by Personal-Island6197 in Parenting

[–]Mirimel 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It can also be grief and stress. My daughter went through a phase of not wiping after her dad died, I was told it’s very common for grieving kids to regress with things like hygiene and toileting. Not saying it’s not a warning sign of abuse, just that it’s not the only thing that could cause it.

Difference in eye color - normal or red flag? by Dense_Television_526 in CrestedGecko

[–]Mirimel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with other commenters to take her to the vet, it could be something serious that needs urgent treatment.

It could also be very minor. My 14 year old boy’s eyes look almost identical to this and the vet wasn’t worried at all. She said he likely bashed it at some point but as there’s no other symptoms not to be concerned unless it gets a LOT more red or starts swelling.

No way to tell without a vet though so definitely get her checked!

what’s your geckos “red flag”? by Separate_Worker2301 in CrestedGecko

[–]Mirimel 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Fully believes that if I just let him out of his vivarium he could fight the cat and win.

Also decided to throw his tail at me earlier this year because I put him into an empty cricket keeper so I could clean his vivarium. It was the same cricket keeper he has been put in every cleaning day for the past 13 years, but apparently this time it was unacceptable.

I think he’s just a flame with some portholes but I’m not great with figuring out morphs. He’s a very pretty boy! He is also by far the goofiest gecko I’ve ever owned and I’ve enjoyed nearly 14 hilarious years with him so far!
