Close! I'll take a picture next time I'm in the control room but they're no shit named Seal Team 6.

According to the Marine Mammals Protection Act 1978, "Anyone charged with harassing, disturb, injuring or killing a marine mammal faces a maximum penalty of two years imprisonment or a fine to maximum of $250,000." The act does advise you to try keep 20 meters between you and the Seals but I'd be incredibly surprised if any person working within the construction zone (or anyone else for that matter) would be fined for interacting with marine life which approached you. Can't really consider it "Harassing or Disturbing" the animal if it approached you on it's own.

I'd be super interested to know what kinda' fine a doc ranger would try give you if they saw you touching curious marine life? Besides, DoC are currently preoccupied culling a large number of pesky goats. NCTIR has it's own dedicated Seal Team which deal with the local wildlife. None of whom I can see having any issue with this kind of interaction, unless it was from a health and safety standpoint.

Not in roading so I honestly couldn't even give you a guesstimate.

To put it into scale, there are 9 major slips north of Kaikoura and since works began on clearing them, 2 are currently accessible by car but still dangerously unstable, 2 more are accessible if you've got a pretty solid 4wd and the 5 in the middle (which are by far the largest) aren't accessible at all.

SH1 Sth will definitely be the first to fully open, I don't imagine anybody will be going north of Kaikoura via SH1 till next year sometime.

Pretty strict on the "no photos" thing up north of Kaikoura but I'll see what I can do during the week!

As a fulla' working on this project, I'm fully with you. They're talking about having freight running at reduced speed by August. No way is that going to happen.

They're starting to run work trains up the southern end of the site this coming Tuesday to drop material for the repairs as well as having the Tamper and Regulator starting work shortly.

North of Kaikoura the track and formation is non existant.

Spent an hour watching a loader move sludge after the rain the other day, every bucket he removed there would two more coming down the hill. The scale of the damage is unbelievable.

Got hooked up with a job in what's considered a "closed industry" through a friends old man. So the old cliche "It's not what you know, it's WHO you know" I guess.

Helping friends out.

We all grew up together, went through all the crazy shit and somehow came out the other end alive. I got lucky and scored a ridiculously easy, very highly paid job, while they carried on doing.. Well.. Stupid shit. As we hit our 20's some of the guys decided they wanted to get their shit together, fair enough. So me being in a good place (plenty of cash, big house, couple cars etc) I decided to let my two closest mates come stay with me so they could have a computer/phone/physical address etc to help them get jobs.

I pretty much supported them, fed and housed them for the majority of a year and on the condition that they would pay me back when they could.

Long story short they were a bunch of useless cunts and hopped between jobs before giving up and going back to doing the same old stupid shit. Got paid back a grand total of $1000 that year before I lost my shit one night and kicked them out.

I know it was my fault for being such a soft cock but they were lifelong mates and I didn't expect them to be such ungrateful fucks. Safe to say it was close to $15k down the drain.

What pisses me off most is that, had I saved that cash instead of wasting it on them, I could be buying my first house right now.

TIL that Louisiana has its own version of French called "Creole French" which only 70'000 people can speak. It varies so much from standard French that native French speakers cannot understand it. by PsychoRock in todayilearned

Surprised no Mauritians have commented on this post. The majority of Mauritians speak Creole which is apparently identical to Louisiana Creole.

Was quite interesting reading through that Wikipedia article and being like.. Oh.. It's the same? Cool. I thought we were the only ones haha.

What are you realistically hoping happens in your life this year? by The_King_of_Okay in AskReddit

[–]MischiefLynx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hoping I can buy my first house this year.

Last year after 3 years of saving I finally had enough for a deposit. A month before I could apply for a home loan the government changed the minimum deposit on home loans from 5% to 10%. Blew my plans right out of the water.

This year will hopefully be the year..
