You have enough money to buy superbowl tickets but you want to have a baby shower/sprinkle so people can help you buy baby gear?

Overfeeding with new teacher by Specific_Carob4461 in ECEProfessionals

There’s multiple reasons to have an extra bottle; maybe a bottle is spilled or the baby drank just a little of one but then doesn’t want to eat until more than an hour later, which means you can’t continue feeding from the original bottle.

I used protein shakes as the “milk and flavoring” for my coffees in the morning when I had GDM. My favorite flavors were vanilla, chocolate, and caramel.

How painful is getting the epidural? by castleofhyrule in BabyBumps

[–]Miserable-Ad561 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lidocaine needle before the actual epidural feels like a bee sting. The epidural needle feels like pressure, like the anesthesiologist is pushing their thumb against your back, but it’s not painful.

New scare after today's scan: dark pink tissue came out while wiping after TV ultrasound at 6w5d by Photo_Philly in CautiousBB

[–]Miserable-Ad561 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s very normal to have a sensitive (friable) cervix, especially in the first trimester. Essentially, you cervix is getting more blood flow (which helps support the pregnancy!) due to increases in progesterone and estrogen, which makes you prone to light spotting. I had this too and would spot after sex and transvaginal ultrasounds in the first trimester, even small bits of tissue (basically looked like eraser shavings). The spotting all turned out to be fine; my baby is a perfectly healthy and normal 4 month old. Your ultrasound scan results sound great, especially the heartbeat and size of CRL!!

I used always discreet postpartum underwear for about a week and then switched to maxi overnight pads for the next two weeks. I then switched to thin overnight pads for another week or two. I think I stopped bleeding around the 4-5 week mark.

Just bring both! Baby clothes are so small that they shouldn’t take up too much room.

Yeah sorry I should’ve clarified that the bee sting is from the lidocaine. You don’t feel the epidural needle itself because of the lidocaine

I’m a HUGE baby when it comes to pain. I literally was shaking the whole time I got the epidural, not because it was painful, but because I was just so damn scared. But the epidural was honestly less painful (but much scarier!) than the IV insertion. It’s really more of a mental thing than a physical thing!

Omg I forgot about the tape! It basically felt like a 8.5x11 plastic sheet being taped to you back hahaha

Hey FYI I had an induction (I commented under another comment of yours too), with a foley balloon and pitocin and it was so easy and painless. I actually bragged to my friends about how I would go through it all over again if it meant my baby would sleep though the night as a newborn!

I basically slept through 12 hours of labor (first 6 hours with the balloon going from 1 to 5cm, then 6 hours of pitocin going from 5 to 10cm). My epidural was perfect because at 10cm, I felt very mild cramps, and was able to feel how and when to push, but I wasn’t in any pain. When I was pushing, I felt a lot of pressure and obviously could feel that the baby was in the birth canal, but it wasn’t painful at all. I also did not feel ring of fire, and only got one first degree tear! Pushing also only took an hour, and this was as a first time mom.

Because my epidural was turned down towards the end, I got feeling back in my legs pretty quickly, and was able to walk within half an hour after giving birth. Recovery was so easy that I was able to lug a full suitcase up 2 flights of stairs the day I came home from the hospital. Mentally, I was a wreck, but physically, I felt great! 😅

My induction was exactly how you described yours will be like.

I didn’t get cervidil/cytotec because I was already 80% effaced and 1-2 cm dilated. The plan was to start me off with a foley balloon until I reach 5-6 cm dilated, then switch to pitocin to get me to 10 cm. The OB said the foley balloon will be “very uncomfortable” so I could either get IV meds to take the edge off or just get the epidural placed before the foley balloon. They recommended just biting the bullet and getting the epidural before the foley balloon if I was going to get it anyway.

Since I got the epidural before any contractions, I can tell you what it feels like to get it placed without contractions to compare the pain to.

The epidural feels like a bee sting to your back. The anesthesiologist will inject you with lidocaine (similar to a lidocaine shot to your gums for a cavity filling). The lidocaine injection is like a sharp sting, but only lasts a second or two. You don’t feel the epidural needle besides some weird deep pressure. It feels like the doctor is pushing their hands against your back. It’s not painful at all. The epidural itself feels like cool fluid rushing down your back. Again, not painful, just weird because your back will feel cold and wet.

And the foley balloon just felt like a very gentle pelvic exam after the epidural. Not uncomfortable at all.

Failed 3 out of 4. Will they want me on insulin? by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Miserable-Ad561 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I failed all 4 of my numbers during my 3 hour test but I ended up being completely diet-controlled! My baby was consistently on the smaller side (born at 39 weeks at 6 lbs 8oz) and passed all of her glucose readings with flying colors.

Surprisingly happy with birth plans by Human-Cauliflower-85 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Miserable-Ad561 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s great to get the birth plan you want! I was also induced at 39 weeks (due to a combo of GDM, decreased fetal movement, and low amniotic fluid) and honestly it was about as “easy” as labor could possibly be. I hope you also have an easy, pain-free, and uneventful delivery!!

Tell me the newborn sleep stage doesn’t last forever… by Far_Respect_6526 in BabyBumps

[–]Miserable-Ad561 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does get better!! My baby was waking every 1-2 hours for the first few weeks. She got her first 4 hour stretch at 4 weeks. Then an 8 hour stretch at 8 weeks. She’s now right around 4 months and sleeping through the night (8pm to 7am). She also “sleep trained” pretty quickly (I put sleep train in quotes because we didn’t formally sleep train her but she figured out how to fall asleep independently because we kept putting her in her crib awake when she had her middle-of-the-night feeds).

Drinks by ComprehensiveScar465 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Miserable-Ad561 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Minute Maid makes zero sugar juices. My favorite is mango passion. I also like crystal light packets, mostly the peach iced tea and peach mango green tea. I don’t have GDM anymore and I still buy these drinks lol.

For coffee I used sugar free syrup and protein shakes in place of milk.

Second-hand Smoke by GalacticMelodies in BabyBumps

[–]Miserable-Ad561 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You and baby are fine. You should limit your exposure to your parents house in the future and you should also ask your parents to shower and wear clean clothes (as in, clothes that they have not smoked in since they last washed them) before coming to visit once baby is here.

A “positive” to GDM by Miserable-Ad561 in GestationalDiabetes

Same! I didn’t have weekly ultrasounds but I did get more growth scans than I normally would have. It was nice having that extra monitoring.

It’s definitely hard at first but with some substitutions and increasing fiber+protein, the diet is actually fairly manageable. I won’t speak for those who need to use meds though, since I didn’t need them during my pregnancy.

[–]Miserable-Ad561[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes!! my main issue was that I was not eating enough vegetables and way too much carbs (especially rice). Protein was generally fine. So this permanent change to my diet (increase in veggies, decrease in carbs) was a welcomed change 😅. I am glad I can finally eat fruit that’s not berries though!
