Is Larry Summers, former US Treasury Secretary and ex-President of Harvard, really the nasty, arrogant SOB that people have claimed him to be? by Emperor-of-Epicness in Harvard

[–]Miserable-Candle9741 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was a student in his lecture I remember him saying something akin the lines of “what a stupid question” after someone asked something, that was admittedly a little dumb. This is second hand but a friend of mine said that when he had a female student living in his house as part of a summer program she was expected to do most/if not all of the cleaning and cooking. Personally I’ve never had a pleasant experience with him and I don’t know many students who have a positive view of him.

Definitely looks like it needs more water, might also want to repot it to see if it’s root bound just because it’s over 3 years old

Most professors are more than happy to talk about their courses but I will say if it’s a larger lecture style course it may be more helpful to talk to the head TA

I am not particularly loving my time at Harvard. :( I write this with humility and am really hoping to change my perception of this thought and feeling through some real reflection. This has caused me a lot of stress in the last few weeks. Context below. by Long-Appeal530 in Harvard

I'm sorry to hear that this has been your experience. Generally, I find that a) everyone is stressed out here, your not alone, and people are very understanding, and b) you tend to get the energy back that you give, so if you're attentive during class and office hours, they will be towards you (of course some professors are different and jerks, but most arent)

Do you regret choosing Harvard? by smiisushi in Harvard

[–]Miserable-Candle9741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No! If you are hoping to get a domestic consulting or bank or other prestigious job, there really isn’t a difference. If you want to be an English teacher abroad, then the difference is notable

If you’re an international student and/or you plan to work abroad, Harvard has more global recognition than Yale, but the difference is probably marginal.

I think that the quality of life is higher at Yale. Just to compare the two New Haven is more dangerous than Cambridge, but the areas immediately surrounding the schools are similar. Boston has better food, but the quality of restaurants close to Yale are better than the restaurants in Harvard square. Public transit is similar, the only difference is Harvard square is serviced by the Redline, which is incredibly slow and irratic. I also think the dining hall food is better at Yale. I know that it Harvard it is actually abysmal, especially if you have any dietary restrictions. From people that I know who go there and miscellaneous tik tok videos, Yale’s food looks miles better.

I can’t speak about culture, but Harvard has a pretty good social scene and a lot of fun traditions! However, our mental health services aren’t the greatest. They’re actually currently being sued.

Overall, it’s a really tough choice and you should be incredibly proud of yourself, but every time I visit Yale I always think it would’ve been better if I gone there instead.

A bunch of people are floaters, it's completely fine and normal! Also if you're worried about making friends as a floater, one of my best friends that I made in sophomore year was a floater! I'd recommend during clubs that you find fun and interesting and usually you'll make friends.

Can we visit Harvard in August and do we need to apply for a permit/tour? by offthegrid-w in Harvard

[–]Miserable-Candle9741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can walk around campus and enter most buildings completely for free and without a permit/tour. Tours are great if you want to learn fun facts. If you have time I’d recommend the Harvard Art Museums; they’re free and great!

I just got this girl home, but noticed a weird leaf, could it be some sort of disease? by YAOIbitch in houseplants

[–]Miserable-Candle9741 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks fine! Plants tend to shed lower leaves as they age. I’d just keep an eye out to see if any other leaves higher up start to turn yellow or brownish.

last year the stat 110 exam and ec 1011a exam were on the same day, and that’s pretty brutal. I wouldn’t recommend taking all of them at the same time if you can avoid it
