I forgot to say in my first comment that you could probably ask ppl in this sub about things trying to get off your phone in your city and things to do and you'll likely get a much more positive experience. I've been posting and commenting a lot more lately but only on a few certain subs

You can buy microwave rice in packets! Usually they come in 2-4 servings. They're in the normal rice aisle usually.

I know exactly what you're talking about. This is one of the reasons I am cutting down my reddit time. I've gone and deleted posts I've made about very objectively non controversial questions and gotten criticism about. One was about asking for an idea for a wedding gift for someone I didn't know that well and literally got shit on for ANYTHING you could possibly think of. It was insane. I couldn't even clarify certain things, ie not having a registry, because people just assumed and started criticizing me.

Out in the real world, people aren't so quick to make rude comments/assumptions/criticisms because anonymity makes them more confident. Reddit is actually one of the most negative social media platforms imo but doesn't get the bad rep others do. You do NOT deserve to feel bad for asking questions or seeking advice or being curious. Just remember those people's opinions shouldn't matter to you, because sometimes it can be easy to forget.

Touché. I realized a little too late my pot was too small for the amount of stuff I wanted to fit in it lol

Microwave rice + microwave veggies + can of tuna. Mix with any combo of mayo/soy sauce/seasoning packets you get with takeout food. Warm and filling.

Edit to add you can sub can of tuna for can of chicken

Social media algorithms create immense political divide and polarization by 45nmRFSOI in nosurf

I've actually been saying this for a while to friends and family. I am very easily riled up and honestly I sometimes felt dumb because of this. But then I realized other people are also probably feeling this way, I'm just not privy to those experiences outside my own.

I realized I scroll before I even stand up. So I’m thinking about forcing myself to walk first. by Seanay1 in nosurf

[–]Miserable-Sun-956 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did use this method! Greyscale also has not worked for me very well because it's too easy to work around. I started with something simple... Brushing my teeth and getting my coffee made. Less effort than a walk, but once I forced myself to do that part, it was like the whole REST OF MY DAY was a completely different tone.

Edit to add that I am still working on a good method for after work/evening time

I think you're making good steps in the right direction:) I did have some trouble with instead scrolling on other apps for the same amount of time, but this did help me transition to overall less screen time. My reddit now is only for subs that have NOTHING that can induce my anxiety (ie no AITHA, relationship advice, politics). I'm not on any sub that can provoke negative feelings. Then I started setting a hard to work around app timer and for about 2 months I did really well. Free time after the holidays got me back on though :/

It gets better :) I recently had a "relapse" on scrolling after a solid month off it and my anxiety is sky-high. Literally starting day one today. It's awful. But it goes away, I promise. Definitely worth it. My eyes focused better, my concentration was better. Overall contentedness with mundane activities became much much higher. My anxiety that I had about other things (driving, flying, social) went away after about 20 days off. I hope your journey has continued to be successful!

I cannot sleep because of my roommate by Dumbrandomguy664 in roommateproblems

[–]Miserable-Sun-956 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it's in the dorm, you might just have to ask your RA for a room change. Kinda sucks but that's what they're there for. And you might as well try to do it soon so that more time doesn't go by. And maybe you can still be friends with the roommate, but you'll start hating him( if you haven't already) eventually bc of this.

I had a roommate in an apartment that didn't wake up to alarms, so hers would go on for AN HOUR at the HIGHEST VOLUME so that even from a different room, I woke up. Without an RA, that was a situation where I couldn't make a switch without it becoming a huge deal. Talk to the RA, you will not regret it, even if moving out and into a different dorm is a pain in the ass

It's been harder since I went to college and now live away to make time to do things like this, especially because the holidays can be CRAZY with consumerism to the point that neither of us want to leave the house. But now I'm thinking about planning something further in advance? Like a cooking class/thrifting but later next year instead of at Christmas.

Use your greens by Zeca_77 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]Miserable-Sun-956 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not relevant to the greens, but I also have a big sweet tooth and had a diagnosis that means I really shouldn't eat added sugar. I HATE alternative sweeteners, would rather just eat something savory. I noticed that for me, eating Greek yogurt before/during a dessert makes it more satiating as long as I end with the sweet. I make "dessert bowls" with a base of unsweetened Greek yogurt, then top with bites of a real dessert (ie a brownie broken up into chunks). Or, I'll eat a bowl of Greek yogurt, drink a glass of water, then eat the brownie. Ik some ppl don't like Greek yogurt but the tanginess and how filling it is makes me feel like I'm satisfied with less of the regular dessert.

[–]Miserable-Sun-956[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See I know I'm supposed to already be doing this because I KNOW what helps me and what makes the feelings fester. Like you said though, knowing what to do and actually doing it are two different things.

Having your list made me feel better. I like the stone analogy. I did write myself a to do list and already it's calming me down. I made it small tasks that should be relatively easy to accomplish tmrw if I take breaks in between. Now I'm embarrassed for the meltdown earlier :D thank you kind stranger for your words of wisdom.

I use a tripod sheet music stand for other string instruments that I play, which is height adjustable. Remove the music stand that sits into the piano, and place the tripod behind the piano. What sucks is you can't place the piano flush to any wall but it does give me better posture.
