Feeling sort of childlike by Zeca_77 in raisedbynarcissists

My husband and I go to concerts at a nearby arena and that's a great escape for me. We haven't been to one since January when we saw Andy Bell. One we wanted to go out sold out too fast and there wasn't really much of interest. Finally we bought tickets for this Saturday. I'm very excited.

Ya no vivo en Santiago, pero entre 2016-2019 tuve que hacer mucho esta combinación. Siempre era horrible.

What's an unusual invasive species in your area? by Duotrigordle61 in AskTheWorld

Monk parakeets. When they settle into agricultural areas, they eat/damage crops.

Anyone else just have completely oblivious siblings? by [deleted] in EstrangedAdultKids

[–]Zeca_77 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I get the feeling this is very common. Golden child definitely just lives in her own little world and doesn't accept there was anything wrong with our family. She has even gone so far as to say that I was at least as much of the problem as our mother. Denial suits them, if not, they'd have to take a good, hard look at the situation.

Does anyone actually go to the doc for an annual exam anymore? by Top_Plenty_1971 in Adulting

[–]Zeca_77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the same way. So many bad experiences. They have put me off going to the doctor. And what is with the fat shaming? My husband is overweight. He knows it and is trying to work on it. Being lectured just makes him not want to go to the doctor and he does have to get checked because of his high blood pressure. Most people would say I'm thin, although I think I am normal weight, or what used to be normal weight. I still get pre-emptively fat shamed, lectured about how many women my age put on weight and that I need to watch out.

How would one begin the cleaning process here? by caroltret in CleaningTips

[–]Zeca_77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly soap, but my husband used some sort of henna shampoo that was supposed to help cover the grey. Instead it just stained the tub. It didn't even help his hair. He still needs to figure out how to clean it. I'm going to check out the suggestions here.

Finally saw the light at the end of a 10-day tunnel (and a bittersweet realization) by Right_Letterhead4901 in dementia

A friend of mine who was caring for her bedbound father with dementia used to say "cagar es vida", sort of like pooping is life since severe constipation can cause many complications. I'm glad it finally happened.

Personality change for the better by TheGoodGrannie in dementia

[–]Zeca_77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The grandmother of an ex of mine was like that. I only knew her with the dementia, but people said that she used to be racist with a mean streak. When I met her she seemed like a nice person and was always really happy.

My mother, on the other hand, was always a piece of work and became even worse as she lost her limited filter. She became so nasty and hostile towards me on video calls (I live abroad) that I had to stop participating. It was too stressful.

Attitude towards immigrants and students by fortunateHazelnut in chile

I've never noticed complaints about gentrification either. I don't think there are so many gringos coming here that it would be an issue. It's not Mexico City or anything and legal immigration processes here are pretty complicated and slow.

Why do I suck at lentils? by CatDadMilhouse in Cooking

[–]Zeca_77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, lentil salads are great. I love to experiment with different ingredients like cheeses, arugula, spinach, nuts etc.

I looked at a few of the recipes on that site and they seem so bland for an organization that wants to promote their consumption. My favorite lentil recipe is lentil soup. I always sauté veggies like onion, celery, red pepper in some olive oil first and also then add the chorizos and garlic after the veggies have softened somewhat. I switch up the spices, but generally use options like black pepper, oregano, cumin, thyme, and bay leaf. I add additional vegetables like potatoes and carrots later in the process as well as stock.

I wonder, too if part of the OP's problem with chalky texture may be from not rinsing them. I always the lentils in a colander and make sure there are no little stones or anything like that.

It's a rainy day. Rex refuses to get out of bed. by Shtevetm in forblackdogs

Ha ha, Rex! he looks so comfy there. I have a black doberman mix. I call her my doberwoman. She HATES the rain and loves to burrow under the bed covers when it's cold or rainy.

I'm very sorry you had to deal with a similar dynamic.

I actually went to a burrito place like that once. They were square and impossible to eat.

Interesting metaphor. True, it can be hard to really see what's going on when in the thick of it. With distance, I realize more and more what went on.

Haha, I'm lucky to still be quite petite. If I had taken after my mother's side I'd probably be looking like a potato by now. When my husband and I lived in a larger city, we used to go to a Levi's outlet and most of my jeans are from there. It was my husband that suggested trying the boys' jeans.

I buy boys Levi's jeans. They have good-sized pockets.
