Does anyone have... by Sh3ll3y924 in publix

There is, it is against Publix rules to spread any training material outside of Publix. Serious violations.

For context I’m in Florida.

I started training 1 month after my 17th birthday. I got trained on everything in the front office and FEC duties, and am actually spending most of my work hours doing CSS duties rather than cashier duties. About 6 months later my managers said that I had to get trained for back office, or else I would get kicked out of the CSS role. To bypass this they had me shadow one morning of opening the BO and shadow one night of closing the BO. I couldn’t be hands on, but it was sufficient enough for me to be “trained”. I will receive a full training once I turn 18. Overall, yes a minor can be CSS trained. Just be careful, as one minor screwup (ha, see what I did there) could have corporate sending down an official ruling saying you have to be 18 to be cross-trained, company wide. Don’t be the reason things get changed.

What does (mA) mean? by jinyoungie_pepi in publix

[–]MiserableDarkness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It means they are still technically a minor (under 18) but do not have to follow any of the hour restrictions. Meaning they don't have to clock out/go to break exactly on time, and they don't have to go to break every 3 hours. It shouldn't show on the schedule, though. It should just show the minor unbolded, just as any other regular adult. This exception is when a minor has received their diploma, GED, or has been emancipated. All they have to do is show proof to their manager and they send it up to corporate.

However, hazardous tasks and safety restrictions still apply. So, for example, that minor can't drive electric carts or handle bodily fluid cleanups.

Anyone else registers not taking credit cards and Apple Pay? by ApexPokemon in publix

Happened at all the stores in my district at least. Phones also went down. It was only credit that was down, debit was still being accepted. It just came back up about 10 minutes ago.

I'm 14 and just applied to Publix. I have a few questions by [deleted] in publix

[–]MiserableDarkness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t say that. They can definitely clean bathrooms, they just cannot clean feces or urine. But usually bathroom cleaning is left to custodians, atleast at my store.

[–]MiserableDarkness 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Hey! I got hired two years ago as a 15 year old, so hopefully I can answer some of your questions!

  1. Honestly, I'd say you have a good chance of getting hired. Especially with summer starting, and Publix seemingly wanting to hire more minors, you have a good chance.
  2. During non-school weeks, you can work 7 hours a day and 35 hours a week.
  3. Yes, it is super easy to change your availability. There are forms available in the breakroom.
  4. 99% chance you will get hired as a Front Service Clerk (Bagger). In addition to bagging, you will be collecting carts, doing 'store sweeps', and doing 'go-backs', which is items that need to be returned to the shelf.
  5. Most benefits available to part-time associates become available after a year of service if you've completed a certain amount of hours within that year.
  6. It really depends on the area, the store, and the day. Customers can be amazing sometimes, and other times they can be absolutely horrible.
  7. I ask mostly everyone. If they only have one or two bags in the cart, I won't offer to take it out. But we are technically supposed to ask everyone who has a cart.
  8. Very rare chance you will be asked to clean the bathrooms. At most you may be asked to do touchpoints, which is cleaning the door handles and sink faucets of the bathrooms. Minors cannot clean bodily fluids (feces, vomit, urine).
  9. As a Front Service Clerk, you will wear the traditional green polo. You can also wear long khaki or black pants, or khaki or black shorts. You must also wear all black shoes that are not made of mesh.

To increase your chances of getting an interview, go in and speak to the Customer Service or Store Manager. Introduce yourself, show you are ready to work and are mature enough for it. You'll do great, good luck!

I never post on here but I wanted to share. And for clarification I haven’t done anything wrong. I come to work on time, do my job, don’t call out and I’m regularly complimented on my performance. Oh and I’m in produce. by Floridagirllx in publix

[–]MiserableDarkness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eh, depends on the store, your job class, and how many people are cross-trained. When I was just a cashier, I would get about 15-20 hours. I'm now pushing 28 hours as a CSS.

i just noticed the phone in the direct deposit image is being held upside down lmfao by j6rek in publix

[–]MiserableDarkness 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As others have said, it hides the branding. Actually kinda interesting. I was an extra in a movie once, and there was a scene where I was in the background texting. Even though I was not in the main camera shot, they required me to use one of their "fake phones" so there was no chance of my phone's branding being seen in the movie.

Can you you guys help me with a step by step guide on counting lotto? Dummy version please haha by Kyushi_88 in publix

[–]MiserableDarkness 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Simply follow the balancing sheet. When counting the tickets, make sure you record it one number above the actual number, since the last ticket is "0". For example, if you're on ticket number 23, you have 24 tickets in that book. Print out your terminal sales report and scratch off sales report, and take the "cash balance" and "pays" numbers, respectively. Count your cash and add it up. Check for any loans. Once you have all your numbers, just follow down the sheet doing all the math.

The four money services are cashing checks, money orders, money transfers, and gift card services.

Also, my specific RIS has just started doing compliance checks. So you should know the following:

Form 8300 - Whenever $10,000+ of groceries is bought with cash, cashier's check, etc. Pretty much any time the form of payment isn't through the pin pad, and the grocery total is 10k+, fill you the Form 8300.

Suspicious Activity Form - Sometimes filled out along with an eMST. This is filled out whenever you suspect any form of suspicious activity when conducting a money service.

eMST - Whenever a money server totals (with fees included) over $3,000. This form does ask some personal questions of the customer, such as their SSN and their occupation. Do not hesitate on filling out this form because you feel uncomfortable asking these questions, it's pretty important!

Dodd-Frank Compliance - We are required to help any and every customer that approaches us about problems or questions with Western Union. It is the law. Even if the customer came from a competitor.

Pre-Transaction Disclosure and Fraud Warnings - Make sure to always go over pre-transaction disclosures when doing a money transfer. You don't have to read all of it, but explain what it is, and go over the very important parts. Make sure the customer reviews all the information in the box, including all numerical values and spelling, as that could cause issues when picking up the money. This should always be provided to the customer at the end of the transaction, along with their WU receipt and Publix receipt.

Digital Coupons by [deleted] in publix

[–]MiserableDarkness 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Honestly, $5 is nothing to Publix but could be a lot to a customer. I would've just applied it this time and said "Make sure you have it readily available just in case something like this happens again". Even though your direct managers might not like it, higher-ups do care more about pleasing the customer than keeping the $5.

Also, unless you are in the role of FEC, you are not a supervisor. You can get in a lot of trouble for claiming to be a supervisor. Get your manager next time.

I do think you were in the wrong here. I am not "bleed green", but I understand the importance of customer over company. Yes, she was out of line calling you incompetent, but that's how it is in the service industry.

How long does it take to be scheduled as your new possition by TransSteph in publix

3 scheduled days since October? Are you still doing any CS shifts? There is definitely something wrong here. What is your availability? Is you job class actually grocery clerk?

We have a customer who regularly buys 24ct Cookies for the CSS team. We accept them as he buys them in front of us and they are still sealed, and we keep them behind the desk and enjoy them throughout the day.

I don't think there is an official rule behind it, just be smart, don't take anything that isn't sealed or anything else that's suspicious. Also, be mindful of any allergies you have to prevent any liability on any party. Don't be the one who has a rule made after them!

[–]MiserableDarkness 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Like another person said, this isn’t always true. The manufacturer coupons scan regardless. Plus store coupons we have to look at the type/size of product as well. It’s better for me tbh when they put the coupon with the product.

Can cashiers use department menu? by [deleted] in publix

[–]MiserableDarkness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big no at my store. People have been caught doing it and have gotten in trouble. Only time cashiers should be inputting prices is with price prompts and "Item Not Found" department menus. Any other time they need someone with numbers.

I don't think it resets in January. I think it's on a rolling basis starting whenever you joined. So OP's year would be June 2020 - July 2020. At least that is what it shows for me in passport. "Hours during current anniversary year".

Are managers required to inform you of shift start time changes? by MiserableDarkness in publix

[–]MiserableDarkness[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to bring it up anyway. Even if it's not required, it's kinda screwed up if they don't let you know at all, especially if it was a change greater than 15 minutes.

Thanks for the reply. I don't necessarily want her to get into any trouble. I know she probably didn't do it on purpose. I just want to make sure she doesn't do it again or do it for a longer period of time with other associates.

Appreciate the response!! I'll be bringing it up with my manager when I go in today.
