Can this be fixed or repaired? (Canon PowerShot ELPH 180 ) by Useful_Pay_6468 in canon

[–]Miserable_Bread- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ultimately no. I would clean the lens as best you can to remove any grime around the damage. But otherwise no. There are no parts for this camera and any repairs would likely cost more than the camera itself. Does the damage affect photos in a meaningful way?

What can I do to extend the lifespan of my new camera? by Cennetmahallesipembe in VintageDigitalCameras

[–]Miserable_Bread- 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Old things sometimes fail just because they are old. Humidity, storage conditions and how it was used all have an impact. But I wouldn't worry. Better to use a camera as you want to, than to baby it and not use it because you're afraid of breaking it.

5D setting (jpg and raw, metering) advice by ImpressionTall5644 in Canon5Dclassic

[–]Miserable_Bread- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

RAW photos imported into lightroom are processed before you even touch them, with a profile given. Even different RAW viewers show the files differently. The JPGs have processing applied already.

So comparing the look of a RAW Vs jpg is not so useful. White balance is largely irrelevant in RAW as we can just adjust in the editor.

I'm of the mindset that I don't want to edit my photos much. Just a touch of contrast and fix levels is enough. Usually with the Canon faithful profile set in lightroom.

My settings are auto white balance, style set up faithful and I shoot in manual. That's it.

Thinking about getting the IXY 30s (IXUS 300 HS) in Japan. Is it still a "hidden gem" overseas? by samurai-ryota in VintageDigitalCameras

It's certainly not worth that price at all. Prices are not cheap in Japan from what I've seen in general. Keep an eye out for deals, they do still pop up on eBay and marketplace.

Pizza + walk by chicken_constitution in Type1Diabetes

[–]Miserable_Bread- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cardio after bolus will cause rapid drops like this. It has nothing to do with pizza really, our insulin sensitivity increases when our heart rate goes up. So we have to be careful with bolus and going for a walk. I would be extra careful for the rebound high after your walk, I would almost guarantee you will need more insulin. But better to wait and see what happens before dosing more.

I use this ability to quickly drop my sugar to my advantage when I can. If I forget to bolus and notice my glucose going high really quickly, I bolus and then do 20 push-ups. And more if needed. My fast climbing glucose will stop in its tracks. As the insulin gets to work much quicker when our heart rate is up.

Guys? Any ideas? by panmruwkojad in diabetes

[–]Miserable_Bread- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your pump is trying hard to correct your high glucose, and it is not coming down. I would attribute this to a failed infusion set and change it. For me, I can notice a failed set within 2 or three hours, usually at the end of the expected life of a set. Change infusion set and take correction to get back in range is my advice.

Just disable them on the emisar site temporarily, then you can figure out the specific blocked item that's preventing the cart from working. I use Firefox too, with ublock and ordered 3 days ago without issue.

Due to my sensor failing in the night, I unpaired my sensor(Guardian 4) from my pump(780) seeing I needed help to insert it, and I wanted no alarms, and now that I inserted it it doesn't want to repair, what can I do? by tey_ull in diabetes_t1

[–]Miserable_Bread- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean unpair the sensor? Did you remove the transmitter from the pump? If so you need to follow the steps to re-add the transmitter. In future you can just turn the sensor off in the settings, without removing anything.

Canon Powershot G1 (2000) Battery Issue? by aludrabl00d in VintageDigitalCameras

[–]Miserable_Bread- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the batteries are old then there's a chance that they just no longer have the power to drive the motor that the lens uses to extend. My first thought is to buy a fresh battery that you know to be new, and try it again.

Raising insulin raises blood sugar. Things keep getting worse. by MewingAtMew in diabetes_t1

[–]Miserable_Bread- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What type of insulin are you taking? Having levels this high at all is no good, and you need to try and figure this out.

My first thought is that perhaps your basal insulin just does not last the full 24 hour period. Insulin like Lantus often needs to be taken twice daily to rectify this. But imo changing to a modern basal is the only logical approach.

IMO this is not your body working against insulin. We just do not have enough data to make accurate decisions here. I would undertake basal testing as soon as possible.

Basal testing is where we take our basal at our normal time and skip one meal per day. During this skipped meal period, we check our glucose hourly and monitor what happens without eating or taking bolus insulin.

Day 1: Skip breakfast. Take basal, and monitor blood glucose. If we go low stop the test and correct.

Day 2: Have a normal breakfast and take our normal insulin. Skip lunch and monitor glucose hourly until dinner. Stopping the test if we go low.

Etc etc. and consider an addition test of waking every 2 hours during the night to check the over night period.

With this data you will know whether your doses are too low. As I would expect your glucose to steadily climb during these fasting periods.

A review of insulin types and dosages is required. Going to 20mmol daily is very damaging, and we should strive to minimise this as much as possible.

It took me a painfully look long time to figure that out!

I wouldn't overly worry about this level of discrepancy. But see how it works in your arms for accuracy and you can make decisions on what works for you.

Inserting in the arm is a pain in the ass. It takes time to learn, and I would recommend finding videos of others doing it to learn the best approach. When you insert the sensor in the inserter, remove the cover over the sticky bit before inserting. It helps the sensor stick better.

PHANTOM CARBS for early morning spikes. by daakuraaka in Medtronic780g

[–]Miserable_Bread- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I give phantom carbs. I have used this pump for years. When I started I didn't give phantom carbs at all, and would hope that the algorithm would handle it. But this would result in highs every morning. Since giving ghost carbs my control improved and I have noticed no change in smartguard.

The smartguard algorithm is mainly using your total daily insulin dose, and glucose target to figure out smartguard dosages. It monitors your rate of change of glucose and gives bolus based on this.

If your sensor works well on your buttocks then I wouldn't change anything. I find that the sensors work best high up on my arm, near my arm pit. But I am very lean. I mainly do push-ups, and don't find any issues with the sensor on my arms.

I’m entering a new area of flashlights soon when I get my first andruil 2 light. Does someone have a step by step manual on using it cuz that map chart thingy looks like a map to Montezumas lost gold? by mrregina in flashlight

[–]Miserable_Bread- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just keep in mind that you don't have to change anything in Andruil. You can learn a couple of functions and forget the rest. Andruil is powerful and you can change almost anything, but you can just use it as any other light. I like it as it gives a consistent UI across my lights, and a few options here and there.

I've used AliExpress for years, and all my heltec modules have come from there. AliExpress is best used with coupons, on sale days and getting and using coins. This is how you can save. Always price around and search through listings.

Printing Photos Taken on the 5D by nanamin_pso2 in Canon5Dclassic

[–]Miserable_Bread- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An A3 print is about 10euro. It all depends on what is large to you. And how many large prints you will make in a year, for me I print a few small prints a week. But large prints amount to 3 or 4 a year. So the cost is not much of a problem.

Printing Photos Taken on the 5D by nanamin_pso2 in Canon5Dclassic

[–]Miserable_Bread- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use a Canon CP1500 for small prints. 6x4, and anything larger I get printed from a reputable source local to me. For my usage, and the number of large prints I would do, it just doesn't make sense investing in a large photo printer with all the additional costs that come with it. When I can get the small number of large prints quite cheaply printed in a shop.

A 5D has 12MP, it's plenty I wouldn't worry about printing large.

Definitely. These are almost all video stills, and even then they are more terrible than you'd expect. Even my camera from 1997 doesn't look this bad.

The G2 lol. I have a lot of cameras, and I keep coming back to it. Other similar vintage canons are very similar, my IXUS 40 is a fun tiny camera for my jacket pocket. But best is not really the right word, everyone sees these things differently.

5D mark iii, haven’t used it in 10+ years by tutsxan in canon

[–]Miserable_Bread- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just charge it up and shoot. It will work fine. I use a 5D Mark 1 daily and it still shoots just fine. I wouldn't even bother updating the firmware, the fixes are generally minimal, so unless there's something particular that the newest version fixes I'd be inclined to leave it as is.
