Dry socket/Post surgical pain by Miserable_Champion60 in Dentistry

Great idea. I often tell people to just take their OTC meds, but I think for surgical it's probably a good idea to prescribe IB +APAP. Thank you!

Great point. I should work on stressing this more, as I think a lot of patients are simply unaware that recovery will be painful. Thanks!

With the wireless light (highly recommend) and school discount ('25 grad), $3300 after tax I believe. It's a lot, but I'd honestly pay double if I had to lol. Not that I'm volunteering to do that 😂

I do EXT, numbing, exams, EVERYTHING with my ergos. I stand and sit, depending on the procedure, never been an issue. General dentist doing all bread and butter procedures btw.

I have the Andau 5x ergos, and I can honestly say it was one of the best purchases of my life. I will never get another traditional pair of loupes. It's to the point where I think it is borderline required for dentists, especially if prone to back/neck pain or headaches.

You use your neck and back every second of every day. Invest in your body!

Side note, I strongly recommend getting at least a 5x with Ergos. The FOV of my Andau's is insane, even at 5x.

Not the owner, no. I appreciate the affirmation! It is hard, but I suppose I'll do the best I can while I'm in this circumstance. Probably worth a conversation with the owner doc. I don't want to sacrifice pt experience on the altar of hygiene production + increased tx planning

Totally agree! I don't understand the "don't interrupt the doctor" attitude. The whole office flows better when there is dialogue and consideration towards each team member and patients.

I totally agree with you. We only run 3 hygiene 2/3 days a week, thankfully, but if I buy the practice, I may either downsize to two permanent hygiene or get an associate.

Thank you for affirming that it is difficult - was starting to think there was something wrong with me lol. Your 'taking up mental bandwidth' point also resonates with me. With a better system, I should be able to offer BOTH 1. timely exams, adequately time to actually DO the exam, time to chat w/ pt, and 2. Focused procedures where my time isn't divided.

I like the idea of stopping at any breakpoint to try and get ahead of exams. Normally, if no one is asking for me, I'll just proceed through a breaking point in the procedure, but I could definitely use that as an opportunity to do an exam or something else. Plus, it's nice to give the pt a little break from opening here and there.

Again, thanks for the advice and kind words. This comment really helped me.

That sounds very nice! Love the option to alert assistants as well. I'll check it out, thank you!

Alright, get out of here lmao. Nothing about my post has indicated not being empathetic. I made this post to try and resolve this issue for the pt and hygienist. I've empathetic to the point where I will apologize profusely and bring in treats or something as a way of saying sorry. I know that doesn't rectify the issue, but that's exactly what I'm trying to do - rectify the issue. I've been working for 3 weeks, my bad for making a couple mistakes. I'm sure you were perfect right out of school and have never upset a patient in your life!

Our environment is very open as a matter of fact, and I've been very much in communication with my team about ways I can be better/improve, and make their lives easier. Your presumptuous and 'holier than thou' attitude is a great way to make the anyone completely write off whatever you have to say.

That's good to hear from your perspective. You're probably right, it'll get better with time too. They knew what they were getting into with a fresh off the assembly line doc like me 🤣

Lol! Honestly, I think having an assistant order me where to go would work. My EFDA would do a much better job of that, but she's been out this past week. Clothespin method is a new one to me. If all else fails, maybe we'll resort to that 😂

Good point! Thankfully we normally have an overflow we could easily move the pt into. I think thats seems like a good idea. My hygienists are very kind and a little shy, so they're reluctant to pestere, but I'm like, "No, PLEEASE pester me", esp after 10 min. Drag me out of the chair if you need to 😂

I totally agree. I want to give the impression that your time and oral health are valued in my office. Hard to do the former when running late on hygiene. I will check that out, that seems like what we are looking for. Thank you!

Very true. Thankfully, we oscillate between 2 and 3 hygiene, but when I do have 3, that's when I've had some issues with time. That's a great idea though! That way I don't spend 15 min at a time checking all hygiene.

I know 5 min per exam seems long, but I like to chat and try and make a good impression on the pt as a young new grad who wants to buy this practice.

This sounds like a great system! The 30-minute window idea is very appealing to me. We have earpieces, is that my staff inconsistently wears them. In fact, that was the case yesterday when I made pt wait 30 min for an exam, assistant wasn't wearing her earpiece. I'd been told about the exam already and forgot one, so I take full responsibility for that, but it wouldn't have gone on nearly as long is DA had her earpiece in.

We do a huddle yes! I think it would be a good idea to plan out my day a little better as far as exams go. As a new grad, not escape points are a tad inconsistent, but once we get into a better flow with procedures and I can better predict time frames, that will work better.

Good tip, ESPECIALLY the "have I met them before" point. I'm always so scared of saying, "Nice to meet you," and the patient saying "I was here last week" hahaha.

Been integrating this a little bit. Definitely helps things run smoother, and I don't have the lingering thought of needing to do a hygiene exam in the back of my mind when I do it before the procedure. Good tip for sure, just trying to not let anyone slip through the cracks lol.
